I’m really disappointed by Korisau, his service was ordinary today and hasn’t been consistently good since coming to the tigers, not cracking him but I think he needs to just work on settling the attack down a bit (maybe Sezer needs to start). Api does some great things on his own but he hasnt dragged the team forward, I guess when youre trying to play catch up all the time because your D is atrocious the mistakes are gonna happen.

Tigers need to develop defensive structure and resilience first priority

There’s a lot of talk about writing off the season already. We only need to win 5 lousy games, I haven’t seen enough to suggest we won’t.
I bloody well have.

In respect to a lot of good posters that post here, Im hearing a lot of soft takes about our performance today. I had hopes of improving as the year goes on (and still hope we do) but those hopes dashed a great deal after that trial against St George. Our players clearly looked like they had no desire and fitness and got steamrolled. Things from that trial certainly seeped into this game.

f**k ME!!!!! I watched our NSW Cup game today. I heard a lot of the under age sides were soundly beaten. When I watched them, I could see why. They looked considerably more out of shape (some of them deadset looked like part timers from local league footy) than their Canberra counterparts. They were absolutely bullied in the game and had very little control of the result. I looked out for certain people on how they would perform and they were all disappointing. I will absolutely understand if Benji does not make many changes in the near future as the cupboard is very f**king bare in a lot of areas. Anyway, lets get onto first grade.

A performance that lacked desire, iq and pure fitness. I understand if a side is down on skill levels but as professional athletes, you need to come into a season f**king fit. When an 18 year old outdoes the whole club with fitness tests, the team will have a long f**king year. That is on Benji.

Bula : I don't think he quite knows how good he is and can be. He needs to be involved more but when we had a pack and halves not gelling today, it is a bit hard for Bula to be as he can be. Im giving him a pass mark today.

Staines : He'd be a reserve grader at any other NRL club. Too small and not good enough in other areas to compensate for the size. Keep him for now and hope that Lobb, Ailomolo develop their games in NSW Cup quickly or put Naden/Toa in when troops come back.

Toa : Toa has been a competent centre for us for three games....the third one being the Cowboys game. Not shown form ever since and was a non-event today. Yet another bloke who is not a first grader.

Faatape : A bloke I had hopes for after looking at his Qld Cup highlights reel. He looked really undersized and ineffective today. Hopefully, he gets a good run in NSW Cup to develop his game.

Tupou : We are not losing much with this guy going to the Dolphins. Keep him in until a Lobb or an Alioami show something in NSW Cup, then pull the trigger on Tupou. We are a developing team, no point keeping him if a player is close to what Tupou is producing....which is nothing extra.

Galvin : I can see the two reasons why the coach picked him and he is correct on both counts. 1) The guy has some bloody talent and is clearly the best playmaking half at the club. 2) No point playing him in a shit side like our NSW Cup side where he'd get zero protection when playing against men there. I doubt his game would develop much in being surrounded in shit with little potential to improve anyway

Sullivan : The first player on this list who should be shaking hands with the NSW Cup Coach on Monday morning. f**king dreadful debut and I hate him already. Non-threatening kicking game, positioned himself incorrectly so many times in attack, slower than I thought running game and a lack of smarts and will in defence. The fact that he wants to be known as "Bud" and has a shit hairstyle for the game does not endear me to him as well. Here is the kicker....he is here for FOUR years. Well played Bud's manager!

Stefano : Some people on here were actually happy with the bloke. The bloke played like a slow powderpuff today. He is certainly capable of being a very good front rower but my f**k, it is time that he puts in some consistency in his game. His performance today will win us jack shit. VERY disappointed in him today....he simply has to be better for us to get anywhere this year......or he can take the exit clause he has and f**k off.

Api : He had a dig today but only so much he can do with a pack that rarely had momentum.

Klemmer : Klemmer is one guy who always has a dig....but his motor since joining the tigers is not what it once was. To his credit, he did a shitload of tackling early in the game...but it pretty much gassed him as his forward runs were slow and ineffectual. I certainly wouldn't drop him but is one we we need to let go of at the end of the year. Im hoping it is not his "one year too long" year.

Papallii : He is an eternal disappointment for this club....but his halves and pack don't help him to be at his best. He is pretty much used as a front rower at this club when he can be soooooo much f**king more. I think rewatching his Parra highlights would make us cry hard. f**king tragic.

Bateman : Bateman, despite not being great last year at least had a dig. I think we've sucked the life out of him as a player. I'd say his worst game for the club today. If he delivers more shit like that, I'd start Fainu in the back row. Lift you overpaid bastard.

Seyfarth : f**king useless. He'll never be a threat in attack. If Manamutua shows something in NSW Cup, throw the ranga out!

Sezer : Limited opportunities with the game already decided by the time he came on. Put him at 7 next week. Waste of a bench spot as he is not an impact player or a worker.

Pole : Pretty decent....a definite pass mark from me. I'd consider him starting with Stefano next week. Guys like him we simply need to keep.

Twal : A typical Twal performance. Good worker but never threatening with the ball.

Fainu: Very promising debut from a man I doubted. He looked fit and wanted to play. Embarrassed his older teammates today.

Disagree 100%, you put Bula in a side like Brisbane, Melbourne or Parra where everyone pulls their weight his is an absolute superstar, the Tigers woeful attack robs him of any opportunity, poor kid is out there looking to create diamonds from dung. Can’t remember the last time he got a quality ball before Glavins beautiful inside ball today.
I could not agree more. I don't think the kid is lazy....just doesn't want to be needlessly bashed because of the idiots surrounding him.

That is actually what I am trying to say. Bula won’t give you 200 metres a week in dog yards trucking it out of our own end, but if we are in games he will be the class that wins us games.

The problem is we aren’t in any games and we don’t have any wingers or centres to make those dog yards.

To be clear, we need to keep Bula and find players on the wing or centres that complement him

Well that was a tough watch.
Very disappointing effort.

@Wizardman is pretty much spot on with his player assessments.

Galvin looks to be a shining light, and Bula is class.
Other than that, the back line is pretty much completely expendable.

Sadly, the forwards aren't far behind.

I disagree with the comment about Staines being a reserve grader at any other club, though.
The only way that would be true, is if the club in question had a massive injury toll in reserve grade.
Woeful player.

Anyway, I don't want to bring you guys down any further.
But man there's some work to do.

Disappointing but not surprising. Looks to me like we might actually be worse then last year which seems nearly impossible to believe. Small bright spots are that guys like Galvin, Bula and Fainu were all impressive. Pole continues to show how good he is, surely he leaves next contract.

Bateman has lowkey been terrible since halfway through last year. Id be shopping him immediately.

Seyfarth has always been under whelming yet somehow played his worst ever game. Farah told a mate of mine at a lower grade game last year they dont rate Matamua because his contact in D is poor, how can he say that with a straight face and then pick guys like Seyfarth?

As someone else said Toa has played like 5 good games in first grade, when hes on hes an absolute weapon but its becoming one in every 10 games now. Id throw him on the wing and say this is the last chance.

Sullivan, Id said previously Id seen nothing in him to justify the contract. It absolutely was a panic signing after Brooks left and we missed Moses. Offered nothing in attack and was diabolical in D. Surely Sezer straight to 7 next week and Bud shot out of a cannon.

The worst part however was that our structures were exactly the same as last year. Edge D frail and unorganized. Attack no clue in the 20. The 2 tries we scored, 1st was from the 3 youngest guys in the squad playing off the cuff, next was Api being Api. The way we attack Id just pick Twal at centre next week, we never shift the ball to them in attack so may aswell put a good defender there.

The good thing is my care factor is even lower then it was the last two years. A few of my mates wrere saying how nervous they were before the game, I genuinely couldnt care less. During the game I was animated yet 5 mins after it it was gone from my mind.

I honestly think it might be a 1-3 win season. Buckle up guys, its not going to be pretty.

I think we will find Bud’s game was severely wanting and disproportionately adverse to the balance of the side.

Is done is done, I hope he reflects on it, learns from it and uses it as an opportunity to improve. Certainly Benji will take him through it carefully.

There’s plenty of reasons to criticise and find anger, but I think we are better served trying to use the experience constructively so early in the season.

Its how we can use the game to help us, that is the question right here and now.

The roster is a train wreck, we can only hope Benji installs some grunt and quality into them. Not my choice as coach, but that’s where we are.

Why didn’t korisau call for a captains challenge when 15 for the raiders dropped the ball cold.. 3:15 to go in the first half both he and Steph new it but didn’t call it..

Seyfarth defensive deficiencies resulted in the first 2 raiders tries..The first try he went for the outside man when our winger already had him..no wonder he was replaced early..

I saw someone else say the prop rotation seems off and I agree. Twal has to start imo, hes our best defender and you want that ruck sured up early. I dont think Benji is the type of guy who will make wholesale changes after 1 game but this is what Id do:

1. Bula
2. Staines
3. Tupou
4. Olam
5. Lobb
6. Galvin
7. Sezer
8. Stef
9. Api
10. Twal
11. Papalli
12. Bateman
13. Fainu

14. Matamua
15. Klemmer
16. Pole
17. Kepaoa

mate this is one of my biggest bug bearers. we would be the worst club at non challenges in the game. I genuinely believe it happens once every game where we let a blatant wrong call go unchallenged. make it even worse raiders score next set.

although considering the hosking try was allowed despite the obvious knock on into galvin i guess we cant blame them.

I agree with a lor of what you have said, however as someone who watches a lot of the lower grades I can tell you the performances this week were greatly skewed.

Wests are undefeated in Matts depsite losing their best player and arguably best player across the comp. It would take a choke of epic proportions, or a horror injury run, for them not to win it.

Ball had lost one game all year. THis week with nsw cup starting we promoted 5/6 Ball players up two grades to Cup. We could keep them in that grade, likley win it and boast about how good our kids are (like the Dogs are doing) yet we've put longterm devlopment ahead of that. A huge amount of our fringe players are also injured. We had 3 of our top 30 playing nsw cup yesterday, the Raiders had 9. By my count 8/9 of the guys who played yesterday are on Flegg/Ron Massey contracts.

NSW Cup will be ok this year if the NRL squad has little injuries.

I think Benjis hand is forced to institute change.

Surely Pole has to start?

Zac Clarke debut if we are mucking about?

Love your halves.

The backline remains deeply troubled, not sure where we go tbh.

I believe sezer will give Api a spell, but then Bud will go to 9.

Im not big on Sullivan, however a mate of mine who watched him all through the lowers said he’s an out and out 7 and he believes he’ll thrive having the responsibility of leading the team around. Let’s wait and see
Tell your mate, it was a funny gee up, but your never gunna talk to him again hahaha

I’m not sacking anyone from the club, just yet, I think we need to see a few more games first, but agree it certainly not the start anyone wanted.

The first hit out against the Raiders was always going to be tough especially in Canberra and our forwards were terrible.

In hindsight Sezer not starting was such a Sheenius move, though at least we got to see our future in Galvin.

But not sure Bud and Seyfarth will be forgiven anytime soon, not that they weren’t the only ones who should be on notice.

But we just look so small and unfit against other teams, I don’t think we are, but all the hype we are given every f**king year just seems to be bullshit.

Anyway, next week, we’ll all be back.

Canberra are at the top of their game in the early rds so no need for despair just yet.
There are better teams than us who haven't started too well.
There were some basic fundamentals that let us down against the Raiders that can be sorted out at training but somethings Benji cant sort out unless.....
we recruit some big, athletic and fast players before Luai gets here.
Our roster still reeks of KOE Cup std from 1 to17.
If we don't, I can't see the current roster helping Jarome do anything special next year.
We need a dominant middle forward urgently.
Stef & Pole tried hard but when your the only big fwds your easily contained.
We need an animal that starts the game. Players like Red can sub.

You don’t build a winning culture losing and getting bashed every week, that’s just soul sapping, the tigers would be better off concentrating on winning a minor comp like NSW Cup and very gradually bringing winners into the top grgrade.
If we put our entire 1st grade team into NSW cup I don't think we'd win the comp.

Starting with a debutant and a reserve grader in the halves in r1 sould see benchie sacked. What a moron. And to turn around and say he put him on in the 2nd half because we needed some leadership? We needed that at the start of the game! The coaching experiment starting off exactly how most sane people predicted

At least we all now know Sullivan is shit..He needs to get with the program if he is going to return. I think the best thing for a few of these guys, Sayfarth included, is to play for a lower grade...If there replacement is shit, that’s no worse than a player whos not motivated to kill it..
