I don’t want to get bogged down in technicalities, plus I’ve never played supercoach etc so have never cared much for stats, however I just look at the official NRL app and on it there’s no kick return meters

This could be a whole new thread but the SC era has given way too much emphasis on stats as to a players performance. A guy like Nathan Brown is a prime example. He has great stats every week yet every hit up is a 4th tackle one after other guys have done the hard work. A lot of players get the ball 1m from the defensive line where they are meant to dig in, get to the ground and get a quick play the ball.

It’s probably why Fittler picked a bench full of locks for origin as they all have great stats based off 4th tackle hit ups

I like stats, you need to measure
Something, fastest, longest, most, otherwise your sport might as well be synchronised swimming or gymnastics
Or a popularity contest. Generally the blokes that standout have pretty good stats. You’re right in they’re not the be all and end, especially if you’re watching one game, but as averages over a number of games statistics should be the basis for evaluating rugby league players and almost any other sportsman. Some things you can’t measure like someone saying Tamou standing in tackles and getting good play the balls, but that sort of things will show up in the overall game statistics like team metres gained or the score line.

It's okay because we aren't paying top dollar. He shouldn't be captain though.
Why? He has experiences no one else in the team has, he is a presence on the field and off it, is comfortable in front of the press, is respected amongst his peers, understands what it takes to prepare at the highest levels and once he finds his feet, will be the leader of the pack, contributing his fair share week after week.
What has Douehi done to deserve captaincy?

Yep I agree and it’s a reason I hated Woodsy when he played for us. He never, ever took the hard runs yet accepted all the false praise and unearned accolades he was bestowed with which were achieved off the back of those who did the tough dirty hit ups.
Tamou is a different beast.

Douiehi has been our best player in at least one game. Tamou has missed tackles and been nowhere near our best middle forward. He has also missed some tackles that have been pretty poor.

Douehi’s one good game counters everything else I said Tamou brings to the table?
Let’s not forget Douehi was dogshit in round 2
He would be a dreadful selection as captain at this point of his career.

You asked for a reason and I gave you one. Tamou is clearly a stop gap measure. He hasn't been bad and he won't be a bad signing but I also can't seeing him being a great signing. He is basically just mediocre which is funny because you go on about not supporting mediocrity.

I suppose you support mediocrity when it suits you which is cool as well.

How is Tamou mediocre? Do you even understand what that word means?

Kinda agreeing with both of you guys

I think Tamou has been good and is the best choice for captain

When he leaves and we appoint a new Skipper in 2023 Doueihi is the most likely

You know who is mediocre in the team that you have blindly supported for ages?
Brooks and Liddle.
Together they have caused this club to waste millions of dollars and years of development for two middle of the road players who are lacking in football smarts and some fundamentals of the game.

If you actually watch the game you can see that Tamou now isn't that good. I mean he may be out of form but the reality is that he has been probably our worst performing middle forward this year.

Yep he is still a decent player and yep he has been really good but he is at the backend of his career and it shows.

Brooks is complicated. There are times he plays really well. Last week is a good example. He did miss some tackles that were critical but lots of halves do that. He also did basically everything else really well.

His problem is that he has the tendency to put in some shockers. Even the week where he kicked those two dud kicks. He was good apart from those kicks.

To me Brooks problem is that he is an average half and not a great one when a lot of fans are expecting a great half. The problem is that there are very few great halves if any in the comp right now.

Liddle is just starting. He has been injured and not a regular first grader.

Have we really spend too much on these guys ? It's a salary cap question.

All good having an opinion but he’s missed 3 tackles all year. Widely regarded as the best defender at the club alongside Twal.

Yes you may say our defense has still been terrible as we’ve leaked points however it’s obvious to blind Freddy our defensive problems start on the left edge & not middle

I agree with the main point here. I'm not down on Tamou. He hasn't been bad. He just isn't that good. Maybe he will turn that around. The main point about Tamou is that we signed him for 2 years on 350k or thereabouts which is okay.

As for Tamou being one of the best defenders at the club that is not aligned to performances.

The comment about Aloiai not being good and praising Tamou is hilarious. That shows peeps not watching games and speaking dribble,

Well that comment was said by Adam Hartigan not me

end of the day Aloiais side got smacked 46-6 so I’m sure he’s gonna cop a bit of heat. I didn’t watch the game for the record so can’t comment

It doesn't matter if the queen said it. That opinion isn't backed up by performances.

He is a gun. He carried us last year and he was huge for Manly. Denting the line with ease. I'll see if I can check his stats and update this post.

Sure enough guess who topped the run metres. To'o with 205 metres. To me To'o looks like the best winger in the comp. He is unreal. Guess who got the second most metres - Aloiai with 183 metres. That is on a team that was smashed and with forwards like Tapau and Jake T.

We can keep debating this but honestly it's pretty f**ken stupid.

I don’t care about stats. They hardly ever paint the full picture

Did he take us to finals footy?

Did Manly not get smashed 46-6 last night?

You said he is mediocre...I say he is a new player finding his feet in a shithouse team. His performances thus far are an outlier, as proven last year.
The argument is that he shouldn’t be captain and Douehi should.
You will never convince me of this considering who both men are CURRENTLY.
Douehi may become a good player one day and I’ll agree with you. At the moment he needs to concentrate on becoming a reliable first grade footballer because at this point in time, he has a lot of faults in his game. The last thing he needs is the pressure of captaincy.

@stryker - fair points on the captaincy but it doesn't change my opinion Tamou at this point has been average or mediocre. We need better. Douiehi on the other hand has been good.
