I was thinking the same. ...they tackled like men possessed that day as well. ..got to the cricket ground by 6.00 to still be about 100 m back in line....first in best dressed in those days . Poor old Paul Cross and Artie did so much to get them there only to miss out on the big day. Cross was dropped for not dropping back to support Bob Smithies during the kicking duals against Manly the week before...Nosworthy ruled with a hard earned reputation

Paul Cross who I think was Ryan Cross' old man was poetry in motion diving for the corner when scoring. They had to contend with the corner post back then but I used to cheer when he'd dive in. Might not have been an opposition player within 20 yards (thats what they were back then) but he'd still head to the corner and finish with a magnificent dive...loved it.

Tall wingers with a height advantage like Tupou are usually fantastic in the air, however if you can grubber the ball to them at ankle height , more often then not they are about as coordinated as Steady Eddy .

Well, I've been "forced" to go and watch this with my Roosters loving friends of mine.
I have prepared a checklist for my bag.
1. Tigers jersey.
2. Lube

Edit . . . . If I plan ahead, before I leave home I can put the jersey on, and the lube in . . . . and that way I don't even have to bring a bag !

Is your mate bringing the pineapple?

You guys saying you'd take Manu over Marsters... Nope, just nope.

Marsters is a standout every single week for us, makes something out of nothing when players around him aren't providing. Manu is good but hes in a team of superstars. His pack are going forward, his halves are giving him early and quality ball and hes got the best fullback in the game sweeping off set piece.

Put him in our team and theres no way hes in the Kiwi's setup, let alone starting.

Agree. It's much easier for some of their average players to stand out with the superstars around them. Someone like Tupou would be no better than Thompson at the Tigers.

I also don't think the fortunes of either team change much if you were to swap Matterson with either Roosters second rower, or of you swapped Twal with Liu.

Put Boyd Cordner in the Tigers team and he wouldn’t have played a single Origin, let alone captaining Australia

Yep.

Manu average
Tupou average
Liu average
Cordner average
Crichton average

Have I missed anyone?

It's a wonder we won the comp in 2018 and were 1st in 2019 heading into this round with all these average players!

What Cordner does in the Roosters team is what Lawrence does week in week out...but better. Agree cordner is very overrated. I've even been watching him closely this year to try and justify his rep selections and I've seen nothing

4th tackle inside line hit up, barely dent the line, play the ball repeat.

In saying that, there isn't one player in our backline I'd prefer over the Roosters. They kill us

Exactly.

The mismatch re the backlines is enormous. They have lower grade backs who r way superior to our 1st choice backs. The salary cap is doing wonders for the comp !!

This is a mismatch which isn’t surprising considering the mismatch in f***ing salary cap Rorts between the two teams.

Manus certainly not average
Every second week easts fans want tupou sacked
Luis a decent first grader, I always thought he’d be one, you know since I watched him be developed by us and all
Cordners a decent first grader
Crichtons a good fringe rep forward who got the $90kEasts sign on bonus from Freddy last year

What won you the comp was quiet clearly:
Best fullback in the comp
Best three quarter in the comp
Bets halves pairing in the comp
Best starting props in the comp
Best bench backrower in the comp

Liu a decent 1st grader?

That's cute.

He's one of premier middles in the comp.

Cordner a decent 1st grader?

That's super cute!
