Matt Dufty

Surely people are not naive enough to think Dufty would be released simply for how he is off the ball. A deficiency that can be coached out, yes even by our staff.

So I believe there must be more to it than this. Perhaps Dufty is the type who has a poor attitude towards improving, or something else behind the scenes

ok, ever considered its NOT Hayne at all??
Maybe another big name like Shaun Johnson??
Id rather him over Hayne, my keenness for Hayne is that he plays SOULY at centre or wing not fullback as Id hate to lose Dufty
But yes we dont know whats going on behind the scenes maybe theyre trying to shift Dufty for other reasons.....
If it is Johnson maybe there going to finally try the Bennett Widdop to fullback option?
maybe this kind of idea is looming

Johnson in to partner Hunt in the halves....man thats ONE damn potent halves combo if we pull that one off!

Very dissapointing if even remotely true !! Once again comes down to the coaching staff - why hasnt said deficiencies been worked on whilst he was learning in ISP ?? Surely one on one with a mentor would have been beneficial and WHY would he play 1st grade this year if things were that dire
we all agree he is a confidence player and when we were blitzing it early young Matt was killing it also with back up breaks etc . when we slumped well he did too ( and pretty well the entire squad ) last game against the broncs he was good. Give him a mentor ( slater ) and watch him go definitely this kid at the moment is a keeper Give me another good centre to partner lomax the peedsters we have signed and another bustling prop and we are good ( on the field )

Agree with you redvee , there is more to this then meets the eye. There was a rumor circulating a couple a months back that there could possibly be a Dragon looking elsewhere , in fact his name will come as a surprise.

But to your own point , yes undoubtedly a half decent coach would had corrected any errors in his play within the first year . And I do like the idea of having a mentor for him , infact for anyone of our young up and coming backs .

The other possibility is that this is indeed only media tripe to get we gentlemen of the Dragon forum something to chew on , I hope that is indeed the case .

Yep, he'll fit in well with Hayne, Norman, Oates, Holmes, Radradra & Rangi Chase in the Dragons 2019 backline. I hope you guys got in early to back them at the good price with bookies.

It is all starting to fall into place. WTC said on the Jubilee Avenue site that we were chasing one of the biggest names in the NRL that would fix one of our weaknesses. He also said that a player would be let go and that it would be a shock to many of us. Hayne is obviously the "one of the biggest names in the NRL" that WTC was referring to. Now it appears that Dufty could be the one that may be being let go. I was hoping that Aitken was the one who we would be letting go.

I know that Dufty isn't the complete finished product yet, but I still see so much potential in him. I would like to see Slater mentor him. I even question if Hayne would be an upgrade on Dufty at this stage of his career. Hayne's best days look to be behind him, while Dufty's best days are ahead of him.

Maybe there may be something behind the scenes that the pubic are not privy too regarding, why we are letting Dufty go.
The biggest name we could chase to fix our biggest weakness would be Craig Bellamy .

As I’ve always maintained; Dufty will NOT be playing first in the NRL by the end of next season.

Adam Quinlan Mark II.

Letting Dugan depart (while not having an adequate replacement...never mind he could’ve also helped in the centres) is one of the dumbest decisions the Retentions Department (i.e. Millward) has made in recent years.

(And there have been a LOT of moronic choices made, particularly in the past five-years)

My guess is Dufty is seeking a significant increase in salary.

Millward has weighed it up and is thinking that Field is a similar player and will accept less.

Hayne is also available, and will also accept less.

If Dufty fields an offer he is happy with, he leaves and we sign one of Hayne and Field.

If he doesn't field a superior offer he competes with Field and possibly Lomax for the full back role.

Can we all just take a breath and accept that we don’t actually know anything? Like, at all? For all we know, literally none of this is true, it’s from the freaking Mole, for goodness sake.

If it is true, however, we still don’t know anything. For all we know, the coaches have been sitting dufty down for months and saying “you must hit these KPIs” and he’s consistently failed to do so and they’ve got a point where they just cut their losses.

Dugan was asking for a lot of money.
Dugan misses 35% of games due to being extremely injury prone.
Letting Dugan go was one of the best decisions Millward has ever made.

Hmmm, Johnson / Hunt wouldn’t work IMHO. Hunt has shown he struggles to lead the side around when Widdop was out and Johnson is an instinct player not an organiser. I think together would be a disaster, both need a really good game manager as a partner, then they are dangerous

You obviously missed Millward saying Field was the long term FB during the Dugan saga
So maybe Dufty did nothing wrong as hypothethised and Millward is merely flexing his muscles against our weak and useless coach
I still believe there is a good chance Millward will pop up as the alternate coach if Mary flunks in the 1st half of the season and that belief is getting a little stronger after all the recent coaching changes.

If it is true that we are shopping Dufty around because he is " Lazy off the ball " are they serious ? . That is more a reflection of our inept coaches inability to coach / man manage our younger players .
What about we shop Mary around because he is a complete buffoon ...It makes more sense .
only problem with shopping him around ,you get an empty paper bag for mary

I'd rather 2 years of Hayne rather than 2 years "developing" a player in first grade. A switched on Hayne is better in both attack and defence - the problem is will he switch on?

Well if you don't the answer to that your post is basically irrelevant.
Buying a maybe while selling a could be doesn't exactly do wonders for your cap or morale.
Our club moves in a constant state of uncertainty and has no ability to come up with definitive decision making.

Well using your terms I would rather a maybe rather than a could be any day of the week. At least you know the maybe has it in them... where as a could be looks like they are just going to be the next Quinlan, Nathan Gardener etc
