yes its certainly not rocket science DRAG THE KIDS one of the best attacking players we have had for many years sure his defence certainly needs to improve and his positional play needs to improve but DRAG you need to see the good in the boy not just the bad .JUST LIKE YOUR FAVORITE DUGAN .he was very good at running the ball back and in defence, but speed was not a positive nor was his passing game .look at the whole picture sweetie not just the bad aspects.......,....
You lost me at Sweetie Enough said.

Listening to Millwards interview about the signing of Norman there are a couple of interesting points:
1. He felt the need to speak about the speculation of what position he'll play. Thats up to the coaching staff was the answer. Normally, he is very certain invstating we signed X player to play this position or positions.
2. Mentioning Dufty in a way which alluded to him being in the top 17.
3. The previous talk about we needed to sign a replacement for Mann to fill that roll. No mention of this now.
4. 29 spots filled and we will wait and see approach, moreso with an eye to a developing player being rewarded. So forget about signing Jennings for example.
The conjecture will be where will Norman play?

If he plays as well at fullback as he did in the World Cup series, I'd say he will be devastating running off Norman and Hunt. He should be reliable in defence and taking the high ball. Positionally, he will be outstanding.

Widdop to fullback is not a bad move at all, that is if Dufty stays and sorts out his short comings in 2019.
Possm, I totally agree with what you say, I just wish we had of signed a proper 5/8 years ago and Widdop could have been FB a long time ago.

Time for him to repay his large salary, hopefully being at FB will be his cometh the hour moment

With the forward pack we had in 2018, Widdop and Hunt failed their mission.

It's time, and thankfully I have faith in Norman and Hunt.

I have a feeling Norman is coming as 5/8 to replace Widdop for 2019. Contracts, words in the media mean very little nowadays so I wouldn't be surprised if Widdop was released sooner rather than later. I hope not but I just think that's where all this is headed leaving Dufty at FB & pressure for his spot(so he lifts)coming from Lomax.
Lomax will never be a fullback forget about that. Does not have the pace and Mary himself has said he is an out and out centre just recently. Lets hope so. Yes he could play wing at a pinch but not long term just for his height, leap and reach.
He will be a gun centre for life if injury and his head dont get the better of him...hopefully at our club.

If anyone could find out the speed stats of our backs it would be great. I have a feeling that Lomax is not all that bad.

Forget it Possm he aint that quick either for a fullback position. I have watched him enough. You watch him stride out next time. He is about 6ft 4 +..not sure what that has to do with speed but I threw that in for good measure.

That being the case I am glad its been ruled out & centre is where he will be.

Am guessing Mat Dufty will be our super sub in 2019 when the opposition forwards begin to tire.

Widdop will be gone by 2020 and Mat will find himself at fullback.

If Mat throws the toys out of the cot and seeks a release after Xmas, the door will open wide for Field.

Great... except Widdop is a much better player than both. When the forward pack were dominating so were Widdop and Hunt (remember the first half of the year?)

When the forward pack began to tire and the referees began to ignore the ruck in the second half of the year they stopped dominating.

Although I guess Widdop was fairly average in all those games he missed with a busted shoulder. His influence on the team was totally evident that when he came back we were firing up again.

Give you enough rope etc. Fact based. Widdop is our top point scorer. Deal with it.
The reason Widdop is our top point scorer, is because he is our goal kicker. lol Whoever takes over from Widdop as goal kicker (probably Lomax) will then be our new top point scorer. lol You should have just said that Widdop is our goal kicker. lol

Come the end of the year, I think this may be our spine:

1. Dufty
6. Widdop
7. Norman
9. McInnes
14. Hunt

No chance $1.1M is sitting on the bench .. Mciness yes! Hunt No way..
$1.1m has been reported only in the media, and has been directly refuted by millward.

And if that turns out to be our best lineup, who cares what a bench player is paid? In this scenario he would be playing plenty of minutes, but wouldn't have to defend in the middle in the opening stages.

Look and see who is really our best fit for each position e.g. Dufty v Widdop at fullback!

I have a feeling Dufty will go to 14 for this season until Widdop goes.

But then not sure where he comes on, unless they bring him on for McInnes, considering he can’t defend there they would have to move hunt to 9, Norman to halves .. so 3 changes just to fit him in. Really interesting scenario.

Or they put him on the wing for a year.

I think at the end of 2018, Field was definitely being considered for FB by McNoidea, their has been no glowing indorsement from him saying Dufty is our long term FB after his defence & high ball issues other then say he benched him because he was looking tired.
