Tbh Im a McInnes fan , yes I would definately like to see some more darts from dummy half and to develop more of a kicking game but Ive always said because hes usually the first forward in to tackle the big men hes that buggered he struggles to develop his attacking skills.....and I fear now with JDB out hes going to be asked to do more in defence (if thats possible.).McBrexit should have looked at his game ages ago but sadly like most other deficiencies in our team he doesnt have the nouse to execute

Runs (as in plural?) from dummy half?

Seriously?

What about the unnecessary forward passes or giving away stupid penalties (as once again demonstrated last night)?

Calling McInnes “a great player” is a bit of a stretch. He’s solid but nothing more. Again, Cook made him look pedestrian which in reality he really is.

Souths made their choice between McInnes and Cook a couple of years ago. We should be making a similar decision between McInnes and Robson now, before another club signs Robson.

Mary has already made it known that he will carry a back on the bench so given that we need two props on the bench and along with at least one backrow forward. So it seems that there is no room for Robson and McInnes in the team. Wrong decision but that's Mary's form for the past 5 years.

I thought McInnes was below par in the CS, his passing from dummy half was not consistent and impacted on the flow of the attack overall. His defence was good but so it bloody should be as he is in the middle, but great number 9's are a key to a premiership and being strong and consistent in attack is a huge part of that. I would not have a problem in the world if Robson was given a go at 9, I definately would have a problem if Hunt is put there instead, no team can afford to carry an average $1.2m number 9.

Yes I agree however, Mary came out before the game indicating he would move Hunt to hooker, Norman to halfback, Widdop to five-eighth to allow Dufty to play full back off the bench in the last 20min.

There's nothing wrong with McInnes unless of course your agenda is to bring in shiny new boy Robson asap in which case he must be bagged constantly. In reality though he did the job for us last year and he'll do it again this year, might even improve. With JDB and Ah Mau gone he is even more important for us in firstly, defending our middle and secondly giving us some cohesion amid so many other disruptions to the team. I think he's the best hooker in the comp behind C.Smith and Cook and we're lucky to have him.
As for his many forward passes - bs ,nowhere near as many as some other teams, and the penalties he gives away are more often than not deliberate to benefit the team and slow things down - he's a hooker, it's what they do.
I doubt he'll be leaving any time soon but if he did I can't see Robson being the wunderkind you're all imagining him to be, not in our present team line-up, not in his first year.

The problem is not only the decision to carry a back on the bench, it is because he wants to accommodate Dufty, Widdop, AND Norman. There is no football strategy behind the decision.
The knock on effect is we cannot rotate the hookers and give Robson game time.

Dufty to ISP and if he performs well enough, replaces Widdop at fullback. Gee Wiz what did Mary think was going to happen.

isn't that fantastic, last 20 minutes where potentially the game is in the balance, we shift the whole spine around, lose cohesion just so we can bring on Dufty, im sure we will win a game or two by doing that but can't see it benefiting the team week in week out...

All 4 of Hunt, Widdop, Norman & Dufty can be slotted 7,6,4 & 1

Once the Chosen Ones r moved out.

It’s the Latkens causing the fuc*kin’ selection logjam & porous defence

Just try it Waterboy!

Only one positional change involved, instead of multiple disruptions -

& I’d pay dollars to see Duff running off Norman, Widdop, Hunt, Lomax & Robson - with Field as sub.

Throw in Ravalawa & Pearson & suddenly we have a very mobile backline IMHO

Someone deliberately giving penalties away to BENEFIT the team?

That’ll do me.

It was McIness’s multiple indiscretions which stymied the momentum Saints had built trying to get back into the contest last night.

You can only polish a turd so far.

Bang on LMD,

I too have a real problem if Robson is left off and Hunt switched to hooker when required.

We seem to be switching the team around just because of Norman.

I agree...one of the reasons Smith is so successful hes usually 3rd man into the tackle not first like McInnes and thats to get himself tangled amongst the ball carrier to slow the play the ball...and if our hooker was the Aussie captain he would be allowed to get away with the forward passes that Smith throws every game.

We are switching the team around to accommodate Dufty.
I think we are switching the team around to accommodate our coaches desires.....tbh Dufty should remain at fullback, (he went ok last year)drop Aitken, put Norman in the centres with Lafai leave Widdop and Hunt in the halves and put young Lomax on the bench (in wont do him any harm to cover as long as he gets some game time each week) and if there's any injuries or positional changes to be made to add some variation depending on who we are playing then we can do some rotation...just my thoughts this early in the season

I agree with your thoughts, Norman in the centres is a good option for 2019, he can work his way into the team from there while Widdop and Hunt run the attack, keep Dufty where he best belongs and give Lomax exposure to multiple positions from the bench, I would be worried about Lomax being on the wing, both for the team and for him. Then in 2020 move Norman to the halves and Lomax into the centres.

surely this move was only because it was a trial and he wanted to see how that combo went, changing up the spine so dramatically with 20 to go in a premiership game would be suicide.

he has admitted that is the way he will be going , said he likes to carry a utility back on the bench,as he did with Mann, so it will be Dufty who comes on and the whole team get's shifted...

I think you’ll find that Souths actually made a decision between an aging Robbie Farah and McInnes.

Point taken though.

McIness vs Robson should be an easy choice to make.
