McInnes to Eels

Why let either of them go.
We go from being in the envious position of having great backup for a spine position to be dead ducks should our chosen hooker get injured.

Keep both according to their contracts and try to keep Robson for the future if he can be patient.
No need to risk derailing our current season.

Someone at the Dragons will need to make a decision soon though.
Also depends on what McInnes is on, what they can keep Robson for, and whether there is the possibility of them sharing the role in any way.....at least for a while.

McInnes has a great motor and it is yet to be determined if Robson will. I'd be giving Robson plenty of time to show the club if it would be worthwhile investing some of the Debellin money to retain him. Problem here is the safety first selection policies of the coach.Perhaps his plan is to keep clubs away from Robson by not showing them what he can do !!!

Runs (as in plural?) from dummy half?

Seriously?

What about the unnecessary forward passes or giving away stupid penalties (as once again demonstrated last night)?

Calling McInnes “a great player” is a bit of a stretch. He’s solid but nothing more. Again, Cook made him look pedestrian which in reality he really is.
Cook makes them all look ordinary, that's why he is the SOO and will be the Australian hooker for many years to come.
The penalties from Mc Innes are for slowing down play because all our much vaunted big men can't get back on side quick enough to stop the ensuing plays.
I can assure you that you would be bitching even more if he didn't give some of them away.

I think McInnes is a terrific defender but gee, I also like Robson

Yes and so instead of purchasing some iffy outside backs, maybe we should have settled on a couple of good wingers and an upgrade to Robson.

If McInnes is moving on then there will be well enough to cover Robson however, if McInnes is not moving on, surely Robson has to be a priority signing.

I agree SGMax, why let one of them go this year. Unless, there is more to it. There are reportedly some teams over the cap who will need to shed players. This may be a case of free up some money in a position they feel they have options so it can be used to buy a bargain. I am a big fan of McInness and the work he does, but if he was let go and St George can get salary cap relief for De Belin plus the reported $200K (I think its more than this) they still have available they would have a decent kitty.

If the charity shield was anything to go by, i doubt there is much substance to the rumour (not for this season anyway).
If McInnes leaving was imminent, why would Mary give him 80 minutes against the rabbits (including a stint at lock at the back end of the game) and only give Robson an 9 minute cameo?

Why would a bloke agree to re-sign with us if there is no run on position available here and the offer of a run on spot elsewhere?

What is it that you think player managers do these days?

Robson is off contract ... His manager is shopping him around .. he has offers to start at 9 at other clubs and people think we can just sign him up again with McInnes here.

The only good thing about this whole situation is that it appears the club have been given a choice about it.

Agreed we have some weaknesses elsewhere we could devote some funds to, but its wishful thinking that we could have a successful season without some kind of backup for our No.9
After DeBelin, McInnes is our other tackling machine and even more vital this year.
I like the look of Robson but am hoping he can bide his time a little.

Don't like the idea of Hunt at 9 except for an occasional game day emergency.
Hookers are doing the hard work in the middle, I don't think it will be good for our top No. 7 to be exposed to that for too long.

If either Robson or McInnes left now we risk being badly exposed at some point of the season , most likely in the important part at the end. Lovodua is still not ready for FG.

Similar to the situation with Widdop last year where if we had better options, we beat the rabbits and who knows how much further.

Mate I reckon you are spot on. Robson is gone if McInness stays as he has no intention of being a utility or lock. Unless the money is awesome he will go. Hunt will then be back up hooker I reckon.

Mary is a bit slow, it will register soon.

The way Mary runs the forwards, Hunt would fail (defence) in the hooking position. We need Robson and next in line to take over the hooking duties. Let McInnes go to the Eels, upgrade and extend Robson and with any left-over funds sign a couple of top first grade backs.

Millward spent money for Robson's upgrade extension on Maranta, Allgood and Latimore. Now we have to put all our hope in McInnes to go to the Eels and Aitken to go anywhere for us to be able to buy a couple of first grade backs and retain Robson.

Mess!
