Don't like tha barrier for Hawkspur but love the fact Zoustar won so Cassidy has the monkey off his back. At least three of these international 'superstars' will be plodders who knock over genuine winning chances when they can't keep up at the 1000m. Happens every year.

Isn't an ideal barrier but it isn't that bad, it is a long race so the barriers don't matter as much. Every horse would rather a barrier under 12 but this year I don't feel the barriers will win the race.

Mt athos is gornnnnnn with that barrier

Mount Athos could have drawn inside of barrier 12 and still wouldn't run a place. Its had 4 starts over 3200m and beyond and still yet to run a place.

Verdict: Overrated nag.

I don't disagree

This is one hard to pick race. I might just go with Verema, won the same lead up as red cadeueax from memory so not a bad form line. I think there are 12 realistic chances though

The first two I'm scratching are ibicenco and side glance. Massively favoured by how their lead up races were run...will not feature. Jet away was poor yesterday as well so out he goes, won't recover by Tuesday from that

Side glance and Jetaway aren't in the field. Pretty astute tipping saying they can't win...

Haha I hadn't looked at the final field...just assumed

What do we all think of super cool...can it run the distance out at this level?

Dstance shouldn't be an issue, well bred and well trained. Whether the horse is as classy as the others is my question, but jeez this year is the hardest race in years.

What's everyones thoughts on Brown Panther? Won the Goodwood Cup in the UK in August over the same distance with Mt Athos in the field carrying about 61.5kg so the distance and weight won't bother him. Got a good barrier draw too

Melbourne Cup Fact No. 129

Out of the 67 international horses who have run the Melbourne Cup without having a previous Australian racetrack start, only Vintage Crop (1993) has won.

Out of the other 66, only three have ran a place, Fiorente (2012) being the last.

Needs a heavy/slow track, doubt he'll get it. Definately one to include in your first 4's though.
