He's was released from hospital last Tues.
Blood flow is good to the reattached fingers.
He has a little movement but said were a bit stiff yesterday.
His index finger is now his middle finger and the middle finger is now his ring finger. They were still joined by the webbing after he cut them off.
The surgeon said they had 2 complete fingers to reattach.
There was to much damage to the knuckle of his index finger where he cut it off to consider any option.
I didn't realise he cut them that high .
He actually did 5 hours of work from home the other day. He's planning to be back at work in 2 weeks.

what’s total recovery time? 12 weeks? I had microsurgery on my arm in 05 and because I had tendons cut it took that long to heal.

I also cut my ulnar nerve so my left hand doesn’t function like it should. Especially pinky and ring finger.

Not sure of the recovery time.
He may not get total use back.
I think he has been told movement will come before feeling.
He's looking at the worse case scenario of they won't function.
Luckily he's not a trade.

I was a tradie and they all told me I’ve climbed my last ladder. Was on the ladder after 12 weeks, and went on doing my trade for another 4 years before giving it away.

What do you do now?

Formerly a roofer. My arm actually smashed thru a terracotta roof tile after the roof collapsed. Fell 3.5 metres. I’m also a licensed builder but we own our own business. We manufacture all types of blinds, fly screens and security doors.

I don’t like job sites for some reason.

I'll have to keep you in mind.
Do you cover the metro area or stick to certain areas. South, west etc.
My daughters starting renovations in a couple of months.

I'm doing ok now.
Speaking on here and to different friends about it has definitely helped.
I'm seeing a physiologist this week.
Good on you. Everyone copes with trauma differently from flashbacks, guilt to even physical nausea, racing heart etc. Whatever you are experiencing is normal and accepting and making peace with that fact is part of the process. You will never forget what you witnessed, eventually you will just be able to sit beside that thought without it messing with you too much.

I unfortunately compartmentalised some trauma in my life after a specific event that I witnessed / was involved in 20 years ago (became quite the expert in locking it away in the vault) and did not deal with it. The circumstances were not the same as you, but the result or shock was the same to me. So it feels like you are unraveling this the right way.

Hey Team,

Thought I’d share… For some reason my anxiety and panic is off the hook at the moment so I’ve been to the GP, been totally honest about it and gotten on a mental health plan.

I’ve had random anxiety and panic as long as I can remember, I just emailed a local psychologist who specialises in this so hopefully I can get in this week. It’s really effecting me at work at certain times and I’m fed up with dealing with it.

Anyway, just thought I’d share and will report back how the process goes as it may encourage someone else to take action. Really hoping I get relief.

Sorry to hear mate it's good you have taken action and looking to hear how the process goes for yourself.

Good on you Stevie - important to get the plan in place when you've been dealing with this stuff, and to keep the GP and psychologist involved as things start to hopefully work toward some positive relief for you.

Geez champ, please look after yourself, and reach out to those that are close to you.
You have made a great start by reaching out to us who you don't even know.
It is great that you are discussing this in the hope it will encourage others to also do so, but your primary focus should be on yourself @Stevie.
Please keep in touch brother.

Thanks for doing your little bit to normalise and destigmatize what we all go through at some stage.

Getting professional advice will give you the tools to cope better next time or at least recognise the signs - which you did this time around. So your mental health education from previous experiences has already armed you with skills .

Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing mate.

Good luck with it.
Hopefully it will not be long before you can start your sessions with the psychologist.
