Don't bother, the Roosters seem to ' manage' the salary gap, that a team of mostly rep and internationals are still $100k under the cap!!!!

This is why we can not compete ....... something needs to change with the way the place is run.......

You mean the Dragons need to be run by the same kind of underhanded cheats and liars who run Easts and Melbourne?!

I'd rather not win a Premiership honestly than win one the way Melbourne did.

Some over on the Parra forum were saying that Merrin could be worth 700-800K per season... Bunch of crack heads. Would love to have him at Parra rather then Watmough and wouldn't mind paying him 600-650K but I can't understand why the Roosters would want him. They basically have the next SBW coming through in Willis Meehan. Also the likes of Kane Evans and Vincent Leuluai who look like future stars.

Trent is a very good footballer.
Market says, he is worth what some one is willing to pay.
But, I agree, with the cap, he is not worth 800k.
I dont think he did enough in 2014 to qualify for the elite forward.
Then again, neither did the rest of out team I suppose.

Depends what you call elite. He's a very capable player - young, hungry and has already proven himself at the highest level. I'd pay 650K to have him at Parra any day.

How about the dogs, there forward pack is the salary cap.

You'd think that but the only two forwards that are on some serious doe are Williams and Prichard. Graham, Tolman and Ennis were pretty cheap, Klemmer, Jackson and Finucane were Juniors so I'd imagine they're not on for much and Eastwood I'm not sure about.

Yes, I would like him to stay at Saints as well.
I may be wrong, but with the cap the way it is, I would only pay 800k plus for the likes of Graham, Burgess, Williams and co. Like i said, he's a very good player.
PS Graham is a beast.

I'd only pay 800K for SBW and that's it. Graham and Burgess are beasts but I wouldn't pay that much for a forward unless the were primary playmakers.

they know how the system works as do other clubs........we seem to be in the dark ages regarding the cap......

They have a guy who celebrated their win last weekend in the sheds with the players running the NRL now so why would he impose any fine on his beloved club?

They have the NRL by the balls and know if they get busted AGAIN then it proves the NRL have no steps in place to police it properly. The NRL will look stupid if the same culprit gets caught again.

Yes you may be right.......Dogs, Souths, Easts........they all seem to be on the same page of this is how to manipulate the Salary Cap......We are still trying to read the note pad version.....

Too many clubs are in on it now, they can't ban them all, even if they wanted to crackdown (they will get flogged in the media if 5-6 clubs are cheating), which they likely won't unless forced by whistleblowers.

The NRL may have to change the 3rd party laws for all future contracts, I dont think they can backdate anything.

Thanks Mr Red

I believe it might have gone like this:

Mary is conducting his end of season review interview with Merrin:

Mary
Well Trent you have made a great contribution this year and as always, we are happy with your work. I am going to heavily rely on you in 2015. I?ll need you to show the rest of the forwards a thing or two. We need to lift our game up-front so that our magical backs can do their thing.

Trent
Thanks Paul. I am glad that you feel that way. I have been trying to work out how to tell you that I want an upgrade and extension of my contract. My manager has fielded a few offers at about 150k above my current salary.

Mary
Yes Trent I can understand your situation. And believe me, I think your worth it but as you know, I have just taken over and found it is a big mess. Could you just be a bit patient with me and I will try to sort it out for 2016.

Trent
Ok Paul, I understand. Can you give me a signed MOU, guaranteeing me a pay rise of 150k, on a four year deal, commencing 2016, with an extra 150k to be paid in 2019 (for the upgrade I miss out on next year). And can you get back to me ASAP as I don't want to miss these other offers if you can't do this.

Mary
Oh! Gosh! Y Y You know I have to speak with the two Peters about this and then they have to get approval from the Board and and and well, you, you, you know we have to find room within the cap and Oh, Gosh, that means letting go some of our other players stil under contract and ......

Trent
Paul, could you tell them all that I want an answer by the end of September and if that can't be done, I will be requesting a release.

Mary
But Trent! You haven't given me enough time, what about by 1 November?

Trent
Look Paul, I have to go. We are going surfing this afternoon. Sally's waiting for me so I?ve got a go. I need an answer by the end of September. I'll be looking forward to hearing some good news from you soon.

To be continued ...............

Mary
Well Trent, looks like we have found the cap space to go very close to what you need. Here is the MOU. Could you please sit down with your manager and review this document. I would appreciate you getting back to me on Monday 6 Oct.

Trent
Paul, it seems that none of the other Clubs are wanting me to shift to prop. I really like playing at lock and would prefer to stay there. What are your plans for me? Have a think about this because it might just be the only sticking point left in this deal. I'll get back to you soon regarding the MOU.
