Started playing guitar when I was 8, and learned songs by Sabbath, AC/DC, Metallica and the likes. It progressed from there.

I cant understand this Parkway Drive stuff. Every song ive heard consists of boring riffs, vocals, and song components.

...... What's it say when these past their prime bands that headlined Soundwaves this year are still able to pull in more people than these current wave of metalcore bands?

These same bands from 10-20 years ago are still headlining cause most of this NWOAHM is copycat 3rd rate shit compared to the old metal bands.

Mate I couldn't give a rats ass tbh, I listen to all types of metal ranging from the shit I listened to as a kid in the 80's (testament, slayer, metallica, pantera, maiden) through to all the currents like As I Lay Dying, Black Dahlia Murder, Parkway, Unearth, as blood runs black, god forbid etc etc along with the old school bands latest releases........ There has been so much good music that has been made in the last 6-8 years in the metal genre that is quite a testament to the longevity and strength of the whole genre.

Who the f**k said anything about these older bands being 'past it??'

It's all good, I hated everything metal from about 1996 til 2003 and had given up on it thanks to the nu metal bullshit and the simplistic guitars that wAs all the rage at the time. I met a few lads from Richmond Virginia in 2003 when I was in the middle east and they went to school with some of the Lamb Of God boys and put me onto them, those lads, God Forbid and Killswitch Engage got me interested in it all again.

Get yourself some Black Dahlia Murder, try their album 'Nocturnal' as a starting point. also try Chimaira's 'The Impossibility of Reason' and As I Lay Dying's 'An Ocean Between Us'. Chimaira has lost their way a bit lately but that album is really good.

If ever there was a pointless argument it is metal fans arguing over which metal sub genre is the best. Everyone will support their favourite sub genres no matter what.

Personally, I like Metalcore, Hardcore, Progressive, Nu-Metal, Rapcore, Mainstream Rock, Alternative Rock and have just started getting into electronicore after hearing Enter Shikari and Crossfaith. There are bands I love in these sub genres and bands I dislike.

I also love Aussie Rock, Parkway Drive, Amity Affliction, The Butterfly Effect (with clint boge as the singer, will have to wait and see how they go with a new singer), Thousand Needles in Red (Clint Boge's new band), Electric Horse (former Sunk Loto singer) Even old Birds of Tokyo stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions man. I have checked em out previously and just cant get into it. Back in 04 i picked up a metal hammer with a comp cd that had Rose of Sharyn by K.E and 94 Hours by AILD. 94 hours was one of the sickest songs id heard in years and sourced out anything by AILD, but it was all to repetitive for me. Killswitch became massive around then... and same thing. Im stuck in that time period u hate. I think LD 50 is one of the greatest albums of all time. Throw that in a cd player with Trendkill, Astro Creep, Puppets and Burn My Eyes and I wont need to change the playlist for a few years.
