I like RIITIIR better because it interests me more - it's borrowed from several different genres and it is a complex construction of music. I really enjoyed the album.

Has anyone else seen the Metal Evolution documentary series? I got the DVD for xmas having not heard of it before and am loving it. It's a great watch if you haven't seen it.

It details the history of metal from it's early beginnings in rock, blues and other music to the first metal in Black Sabbath Iron Maiden and the genres that followed. It has most of the big bands members interviewed.

Highly recommend it for any metal heads.

Have come across a few Aussie bands while looking for new sounds.

Thy Art is Murder- Awesome music sounds but i'm not sure about the vocals.
Resist the Thought - Definitely worth a listen
Boris the Blade - Awesome, definitely recommend the EP Tides of Damnation.

Anyone here listen to these?

Mate, give Boris the Blade a listen..

Saw a poster for a gig from late last year where all three of those bands I listed played together.

Would have been an awesome gig!!

All this talk about Aussie metal, and nobody is mentioning Psycroptic or Devolve. For shame...

Hehe, Devolved. They were best known for having a sticker on the album warning that it may cause epileptic seizures.

Pretty decent band to be honest.

After a bunch more listens I have upgraded The Art is Murder to awesome all round..

Boris is just as good if not better though!!

What's the main difference between death metal and deathcore though?

Seems to be debate on where those two bands sit, just seems like old style death metal to me.

One of my friends bands played their debut show a few weeks ago in Sydney, here's a clip from it (my mate's the drummer):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xl6eTmQnNhI

Their demo is free to download from their website too at http://deadriverrunsdry.bandcamp.com/ .

My 2012 best of list (no partcular order):

Witchrist - The Grand Tormentor
Vassafor - Obsidian Codex
Krallice - Years Past Matter
Autopsy - Born Undead (live DVD)
Anaal Nathrakh - Vanitas
Winterfylleth - The Threnody of Triumph
Evoken - Atra Mors

The NZ scene's been churning in some brutal shit recently, Witchrist, Vassafor, Diocletian and Heresiarch all kill.

What's the main difference between death metal and deathcore though?

Death metal is awesome and deathcore is shit, basically ;)
