Gordon is the first fullback since peach I haven't absolutely shat myself every time a bomb goes up. He isn't the best but is a very good fullback and certainly the best we've got. I'm with ya flash.

Flash is (or was) twice the player at fullback. Kick returns (on the wing they always kicked to the other wing and he was unable to rack up kick return metres as a winger) and getting his hands on the ball more often allowed him to rack up around 200m per game at Panthers. He has lost a bit of pace, but is still an animal when running the ball and busts tackles quiet easily.

His ball playing isn't great, but it's not horrible either. He created space many times at fullback for his outside men to score from.

In 2010 he came out and said his favorite position was centre, but after a few games at fullback he grew to favor that position. He was a great winger, but he had many skills being wasted on the wing and never seemed to get a run in his favorite positions at full strength despite being the best player in the backline by miles.

Some highlights from 2010:
http://youtu.be/MrWWuYcVkgE

Starts off with highlights as a winger up until the game against Cowboys, the games after that are as a fullback and where he truly shines.

Highlights from 2011, mostly as a winger:

Half that second video is highlights from one game against Broncos at fullback, sadly it was the end of his season and he was looking certain to be picked for NSW fullback with his form and injuries to other options.

Flash was great last year despite having a metal rod in his ankle.

This year he has shown glimpses of brilliance, but made a few errors - but who in the team hasn't?

I'm happy to have him at FB, especially since their is no one better in the position (Holmes is great, but he isn't ready and would say so himself).

The problem remains, he is still our best fulback.

Whilst he may be insulted, being a f**king good winger is no longer an insult. You could win a premiership with Flash on the the wing, can catch, can finish, can tackle, can run from dummy half.

But we dont have a better fullback.

FFS...heart breaking to see Lewie and Flash running miles with the ball in different jumpers.

How do we train it out of their game!?

Not keen to watch.

My memories of Gordon @ the Panthers was coming back from a year & 2/3 out with injury & absolutely killing it, making break after break & running for massive metres at the end of the season.

Seen none of that since joining us.

Do yourself a favour than Cardie - DO NOT watch that.

I donnt even recognise the bloke we have at 1.

The 2nd vid is worse. He looks like a Golden Boot.

He was putting out similar stats to Hayne 09 end of season form. Topping himfor run metres and tackle breaks. Not the ball player Hayne was, but he was damn near unstoppable running the ball and you could count on him beating the furst defender on nearly every run. Kick returns he always made good metres and even afterfirst contact would still get a few metres while going to ground. He came in for dummy half runs and hitups ontop of his fullback duties and it was heart breaking to me having him thrown back to the wing everytime Coote was fit.

Sadly both have had injuries hold them back. Feel ripped off not getting to see more of him in his peak form. Would have been a permanent fixture in the Blues side and possibly had an Aussie jersey.

Agent 99, please refresh my memory of the years he was out injured.

Didnt he have a broken leg 1 year & came back & buggered his knee (or vica-versa) in Rd 1 the next year & was out for a while again?

Aussie jersey is a bit of a stretch?

From memory, Flash wasn't that keen on leaving penrith but felt he could earn more money if he went somewhere that needed a fullback as it would be getting close to the last contract he would be signing.

Local penrith papers had lots of write ups about his situation. He chose the sharks and was signed on "fullback money" which he felt was a lot more than what he could earn as a winger (which adds up as someone said Coote was on close too 600k)

Once he was at the Sharks he said many times he didnt care what position he played. He was just happy to have sorted everything out.

Our problems aren't Gordon being our fullback. It's the 12 blokes in the defensive line in front of him that arent aiming up.

Thanks Chewie. That makes infinately more sense to me. Putting myself in his shoes I couldnt work out why he would go to another club (given he wanted to stay) while he was playing so well in possibly his best but not prefered position. Didn't add up to me. The old money biso. Root of all evil!!!

When at best form he wouldn't have been too far from an Aussie jumper (wing) imo.

I remember 2 years ago he returned from a bad injury, first game was against the sharks & he played fullback. He carved us up all day, at the time I thought how good is this guy to come back from 6 plus months off & play this good.

He's had his worst start to a year this year. & it is also injury based. As he gets better & the team improves he will continue to pull out games like that. But it may be from the wing. He wont be playing centre. Ever.
