SYDNEY Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce has signalled his desire to pull on the sky blue jumper for NSW again this season, claiming last year’s premiership win has given him renewed confidence to do the job for the Blues.

Pearce has held the halfback’s job for NSW since 2010 and acknowledged in the lead-up to game three of last year’s State of Origin series that he was playing for his future. The Blues lost the match 12-10 to hand Queensland its eighth consecutive Origin series win.

Well there it is folks, Pearce has publicly let Uncle Laurie know that he still wants to play, lets give him the jersey and give QLD the trophy.

See yall next year

We are f**ked if we don't select Dean Young. Can't believe you left him out.

I don't mind Pearce as a player but seriously, no Blues halfback even when we are winning has had so many chances in a row. He's never came close to dominating, or doing anything really. 12 games, three wins. Most of our other halves haven't lasted one or two losses, let alone nine.

If there's a good Pearce will get sick or pick up some minor injury and be ruled out of each Origin game. That's the only way we will see anyone else in the #7 jersey.

6. Mullen / Maloney (depending on how good Mullen is by Origin 1)
7. Carney

I'll even take Brooks if it meant no Pearce. Can't possibly do worse. Even if he only has a few NRL games experience.

Needs to pull his head out of his f**king ass and step aside. If he can't accept that after so many changes in 5/8's NSW still can't win a series, even when we match QLD across the field except TWO positions, he's as delusional as the selectors.

Whoever NSW pick at halfback this year is only going to have the job short term. NSW next long term 7 is playing for the Tigers. I think he will be ready for the 2015 series.

No way will Brooks be ready in 2015. He's played 4 FG games FFS.

Give him time to develop... no need to destroy his confidence ala Jarrod Mullen when he's still so young. Gus will go into meltdown if they pick Brooks too soon. And rightly so

Atm Mitchell Pearce is miles ahead of him for obvious reasons. But, by 2016/17 there's no reason why Tedesco/Brooks won't be ready to dominate.

NSW coach Laurie Daley tips Mitchell Pearce to keep Blues No.7 jersey

NSW coach Laurie Daley has hailed Mitchell Pearce as a vastly improved footballer than the one who participated in last year's State of Origin series.
Pearce has had a strong start to the year, backing up the form which resulted in him steering the Sydney Roosters to a grand final win over Manly. His performances silenced the critics who have pointed to his inability to get NSW over the line during his interstate appearances.
Daley, speaking at function announcing the NSWRL's initiative to bring deciders to Allianz Stadium on a gala grand final day for the VB NSW Cup and other senior open-age competitions, said Pearce's retention in the Blues side was all but assured.
"He's a better footballer than he was this time last year," Daley said.

"The experience of winning a grand final, winning tight games for the club - I think he's just happy with the way he's performing. He hasn't placed any outside pressure on himself, internally he knows what he can do and what he wants to do.
"He's showing that on the field, he's been really good actually. Tremendous."
Asked if he will be retained as the Blues No.7, Daley said: "I couldn't see anyone at the moment playing any better than him. I couldn't see any reason why he wouldn't be there."
Another talking point was Will Hopoate, who has made his NRL return for Parramatta after completing a two-year Mormon mission. While some have suggested Hopoate should be fast tracked to Origin, Daley was taking a cautious approach.
"With Hoppa, I haven't even thought about him, as I haven't with a number of players," Daley said.
"I'll wait until a few weeks time and really get into it. I've been following him, he's going steady, but in terms of Origin we'll see where he's at in a few weeks time rather than making any statements about that yet."
One of Daley's biggest selection dilemmas will be the fullback spot. Injury has prevented Josh Dugan from playing this year, Brett Stewart also remains sidelined while Jarryd Hayne has played on the wing in recent series. And while James Tedesco has started the year strongly for the Tigers, he is a prospect for future series rather than this one.
"The way Brett Stewart started the season, those first 40 minutes showed what he's still capable of," Daley said.
"Duges, we haven't seen this year but from all reports he's as good as he's ever been shape-wise.
"Hayne is playing like Jarryd [can] and he's got the option of playing in the centres or at fullback. It depends on the make up of the team and what way we decide to go."

Lol last year he was a certainty because he's lost origin series in the past, now he's a certainty because he's won a grand final...interesting to see what his reason will be next year...

It probably is a shame, Mitch may have had a fairly successful first grade career and gone down as a Roosters legend...instead he will forever be remember as a mainstay in the spine of NSW worst losing streak ever. He is the real victim here!!!

'Steering the Roosters to a Grand Final win'. Strange. I can remember the Roosters winning the Grand Final, but I sure as shit can't remember Pearce steering them towards it.

Said everyone that's ever had a bloke playing for their club that's looked promising after 4 games.

Carney needs to be the halfback. Anyone else is a step backwards.

Carney is the best half NSW have. Leaving him out of either position again this year would be bias and stupidity of epic proportions..

I just don't understand why they have to make it so hard for themselves. Sure QLD are good but we could at least start by picking our best players. Pearce and Maloney are solid at club level (helped out by the best forward pack in the comp IMO) but they don't have the class, skills, and most importantly vision that Carney does. That's what we need in Origin, blokes that have vision and can actually play what's in front of them. I wouldn't actually mind Maloney at 5/8 (and I think he will be) as long as Carney rather than Pearce was at halfback.

Carneys composure in big occasion games is always a question though.

That said if we had actually let a combination build in the Origin arena we might have more to asses
