Moimoi out for nine NRL matches
20:24 AEST Wed Sep 7 2005
AAP
Parramatta's finals campaign was dealt a blow with rugged second rower Fuifui Moimoi suspended for nine matches by the NRL judiciary.

Moimoi failed to beat a grade two reckless high tackle charge for his hit on Brisbane rookie Berrick Barnes on Friday night, despite the video evidence being inconclusive as to whether Moimoi struck Barnes on the head.

Only one video angle was available to the prosecution, which failed to clearly show Moimoi's arm making contact with Barnes, but that didn't stop the three-man panel of Royce Ayliffe, Mal Cochrane and Darrell Williams from finding him guilty.

The charge incurred a 350-point base penalty, but previous convictions in the last two years and carry-over points extended the ban to nine matches.

The Eels sought a downgrade after the guilty verdict was handed down, but their appeal was rejected.

I don't think losing Fui is a huge loss at all.

Sure he has been good in his few patches, particularly in hitting the ball up.

But Peek in particular is the better option to have around during the finals. He is a very solid, experienced player, and I can't see how people think he hasn't played well this season. He hasn't had explosive patches like Fui, but overall I think he has been better.

Vs the Dragons, Fui's first touch was a knock on, then his 2nd touch, he fumbled again (a harder one, but still a fumble) and the Dragons scored. 10 minutes later he crashed over to score from a couple of metres out and thats a great game from Fui??

Sure, 9 weeks is harsh, especially considering Webb isn't facing half that, but I'd rather have Peek there than Fui anyway during the finals. More experienced, more consistent.

You changed some....

So because the Raiders and Knights beat us that somehow detracts from our depth? I'd love to win every game too, but it's not possible, especially the way the comp is now.

Just on the Raiders, did you notice our backline when we flogged them a few weeks back? Depth!

We really should have beaten the Knights and Raiders. Yes we did well against the Raiders with a depleted backline. They had injury problems of their own though. Let's not forget that isn't the backline we're intending to take into the finals.

I couldn't see him getting off anyway so I'm not really surprised

An experienced player isn't always the better player. You're entitled to your opinion but I seriously don't think Peek has been anywhere near as good as Fui has this year.

The reason Fui is such a loss is because of the balance of our side. With our backrow all being defensive machines and solid 80 min players we need impact off our bench. This is why Fui is more important to our balance than Peek. And for me Cannings has been a disappointment since he came to the club (with the exception of the odd game) especially for the supposed money he is on.

The other thing FUI brings is aggression and besides Morrison we are a little short in that area. I say this especially as I believe Manly will try and bring on the biff this week. It is their only hope of upsetting our players and winning the game

How well were the Knights playing at the end of the season? We could have had our best 17 on the park and it would have been tough the way they were playing.

And doesn't the fact the Raiders had some out to highlight how good our depth is to others?

Your right, it's not the backline we are taking into the finals. But if needed, Reddy, Delany, Williams or Peterson are more than capable of stepping up.

If he wants Impact, smith will use Cannings for intimidation.
It he want a solid consisted front rower who just does his job, than Peek will be called up.

Fui comes across as the sort of guy that would take the bait though. ie Cross last week against Hill. He may be one that would get put off his game by it.

We'll never though.

Yep and being a finals game you would expect both to step up to the plate and get the job done.

Even though the Knights were playing well I still believe we should have won considering the sides on paper. Sure all of those players you mentioned are capable of stepping up. However depth is good for covering injuries and suspensions in the regular season. You don't want to rely on it during the finals. You want your best 17 players out there.

:D Are you talking about the right tackle or taking the p*ss?

The one he got done for was a swinging arm that clipped the top of the players head. It was reckless, he wasn't looking where he was hitting either. The ref was to busy blowing for the forwward pass but the video review done their job and nailed him.

Had he not had a bad record, he would have been out for 3 or 4 weeks.

Haha yeh was taking the p*ss out out of the charge

The most annoying thing is that the tackle he attempted to make was after the forward pass and wasnt even counted.

Thank you. Your saying the word depth is overused. Obviosuly you don't want to rely on it for the finals. Obviously you want the best 17 out there. But in real life sometimes you need to rely on things. IF we require our dpeth, it is there. We have it in abundance.

Re the Knights, on paper this, on paper that. As you said yourself, we can't rely on hypotheticals.

This is the surprising bit to me. How can he be found guilty with no evidence?

Yeah I know. That's why he missed it too. Was to busy waving his arm about. Was 2 forwards passes in there. Damn video replays hey!

Im with u Macca, although we will miss Fui, i dont think its the major loss, i ask u all if u had a choice of losing a player out of the no 8-17 who most likely would you rather lose if u were 2 lose one?
8 - Cayless
9 - Riddell
10 - STRINGER
11 - Hindy - I know we have lost him but this is what i consider more of a loss
12 Morrison
13 - Chad Robinson
14 Pj March
15 Widders
16 Vella
17 Fui Fui

from that pack the only one maybe with no disrespect other than fui is Vella.

So im sure brian will pick someone capable of doing what is required on Sunday afternoon.

Also u will find with the poor evidence that the tribunal have, if parra appeal they will win quiet comfortably and fui might be on the paddock on sunday

I agree Scotty. It's one of those ones that looks real bad. I still think he got the top of his head, just where it was and where the arm swung. But as you say the evidence has to be proved. It's maybe not as clear cut as they think, but still looks bad. As I say, I believe he made contact still.
