Morrisons effort v the Roosters

I also remember his two try effort in the first five minutes against the Dragons last year, including the great charge down. He's nothing flashy, but every side needs a player who can work their arse off in defence, it's not his fault that Brian Smith uses him wrong, and there is too much pressure on him at times.

agree!!

unless your playing against Campbell/Fittler/Anasta and leading by 12 with 15 minutes remaining!

he shouldn't be five-eight....no arguments.

Woah you guys have misinterpreted me. Look Wagon is a top bloke but it has me gutted that he was our #6 for 95% of the season. He isnt as fancy as other locks around but does the job. I for one think we need him in the side next year. As a lock he does the job as good as any other. Iam sure that next year he will be just as good as any other but dont think I dont respect him. Each Parra player I respect except for one but he is not him. Wagon is a great clubman and an asset to the club. Sorry if it sounded different but as a 5/8 he cant play his natural game.

Smithy has already said that our 2 backrowers will be Hindy and Morrison. The sooner we realise the soon we realise that wagon will be out lock and Cayless will not be in the backrow.

I hate to break it to you, but the title 'backrower' covers three positions - the two second rowers and lock forward!

And I believe that we never heard what Smith said - we heard Morrison say that Smithy told him that both he and Hindmarsh would play 80 minutes, one on either side of the paddock in attack! That does NOT mean they will be playing second row!!
Hindmarsh will attack on his usual left side, and Morrison will attack on his usual right side.

There is absolutely NO reason that Morrison cannot do this while wearing the number 13 jersey, and NO comments made by Smith to suggest that he will definitely play second row.

The fact is that our pack got dominated this year. To win we need to dominate the opposition - Cayless played the house down in the second row, and Smith has signed a number of props - Stringer, Robinson to add to Cannings, Vella and Tsoulos - not to mention Cordoba and Taia who are up and comers.
We are stacked at prop and SURELY Cayless will play back row where he was so effective this year!!

There is absolutely NO reason for Wagon to be in the first grade squad next year until injury strikes.

Wagon needs to be there. Morrison has been playing the role of second row for cowboys when he has come off the bench after his injury. What Iam trying to say is that Wagon is a lock who is pretty much defensivly sound why put Morrison there because then he would lose some of his attacking potential. Cayless needs to lead from the front
8 - Cayless
10 -
11 - Hindy
12 - Morrison
13 - Wagon

Actually Morrison has been playing prop when he's been coming off the bench for the Cowboys (ok - and a BIT of second row).

There is no reason to suggest that he loses ANY attacking ability because he plays lock - why would he lose it there and not in the second row????

Anyway, the guy is a workhorse by nature - if he makes his standard 30 tackles a game that goes well with Hindy's 40 and the 30 a game that Cayless made this year (just less than Wagons 32). And if Morrison makes his STANDARD number of tackles (which is 2 less than Wagon) then he'll still have his STANDARD amount of energy to use in attack - so we'll see his usual attacking game.

I'd rather see his usual attacking game than Wagon's ANYDAY OF THE WEEK!!!!

I say it again, Cayless played superbly in the second row this year, and Smith has bought 2 more props to play first grade (added to Cannings who basically missed the whole year gives 3 new props) - why would Cayless be moved back to the front row to accomodate a player who does nothing better than him???

No doubts at all!!

If Cayless stays fit all season then I see McKinnon scoring many tries from his offloads and Cayless regaining the NZ captaincy!

And with Morrison looking to push for rep honours....

Cayless needs to lead from the front

So are you saying that Cayless played badly this year? Do you think his form last year was better?

I think there's little doubt that (in the games he played) he played like a monster and LED FROM THE FRONT. A second rower can certianly lead from the front... isn't that what Hindmarsh did all year??? Should we move him to prop as well?

No. Stand Corrected. Admittingly I cant remember his form this year. But If he isnt Prop next year Ill be very suprised. You can hold me to that.

Cayless in the second row has been a huge success. He get way more game time there, sets up attacking plays and get more room to show case his attacking abilities while working through tons of defence. I am not trying to put down Morrison when i say this but Cayless is a level above Morrison. He is one of the best forwards in the game and his injuries have been a huge reason why Parramatta has struggled over the past couple of seasons.

I would love to see Cayless stay uninjured all of 2005. He can really rise when he plays a large number of games straight. His offload is deadly and we have missed his 2nd phase play all year. Morrison as a lock or as a backrower is equally classy.

Let's look at our bench composition - Say for each game, the bench is made up as follows:
14 - Spare Playmaker Type (eg PJ, Henderson)
15 - Second Rower
16 - Prop
17/18 - Prop or Second Rower

You could have 5 players rotating as second rowers or 4 players rotating in the front row, depending on how Smith finailises the bench (ie which role is 18th that week and sits out). You could even have 5 rotating in the front row, if Smith names three props on the bench instead of backrowers?

So, initial back row mix: Wagon, Morrison, Hindmarsh, Cayless, Widders
Initial front row mix: Cannings, Stringer, Vella, Robinson/Tsolous?
(I'm not a huge fan of players playing 80min these days, if they don't have to with the interchange how it is?)

It doesn't matter exactly where the guys line up, the potential mixes are tops! And then throw in guys like Peek, Afamasaga, Mateo, Muckert, O'Dwyer, the other one out of Robinson/Tsoulos, AND young guys like Cordoba, Hauraki, and our pack has heaps of depth and is looking bloody great ...IF the props play it HARD and TOUGH in 2005.

Bartman - agree 100%

My point is simply that there will have to be 2 props on the interchange bench, one dummy half player/ playmaker to spell Ridell leaving only one spot. You cannot tell me that Widders won't get that spot! So I think that if Wagon doesn't start in the 13 jersey he won't start - and, as I've been trying to make clear, I really don't think Wagon has the class to force his way into our pack at the expense of a front rower!!!

I guess we'll wait and see!!!

Wagon is a not a bench player we all know that. After a few years we see a pattern of who is benched. We had the partnership of Stapleton an Peek which worked so well and then we had Widders off the bench. Widders hardly started unless injuries came into play. I think we all hav fair ideas of who will be benched but it will be intresting to see who Smith chooses.

I also believe Morrison has the Blues #13 writen all over him.

Unfortunately, I think you are wrong:

11. Hindmarsh
12. Ryan
13. Fitzgibbon

What's the bet that that's the crappy combo? Crappy because of Fitz, because Andrew's a champ.
