Lol @Dugan departure comment.
He had a shocker of a half season with sharks and is being shopped around already, he will end up in ESL before the end of 2019 I reckon.
more likely with the Toronto Wolves. Reignite that great try scoring partnership with McCrone, how many tries did they lay on for us?

Ohhh.....none?

How many games did Dufty win us this year?

I dont think there were too many of them to be honest, this idea he was a match winner for us has grown out of all proportion and is entering the realms of urban myth. Just because he is running his own lines across field and then back again does not equate to x factor, it is not playing as part of the team. While I'm at it I'll also dispute this idea that he has unbelievable speed, he is quick off the mark but in games I saw him outpaced on a number of occasions. I'm not saying he is slow but compared to the really quick players in the game he is not up with them.
I can guarantee you that we would have beat Parra the first time, if Dufty wasn't on the field. We would not have beat Canberra if Dufty wasn't on the field. We would not have beat Cronulla in one of our games if Dufty wasn't on the field, so that if 3 games off the top of my head. I reckon there would be at least one more game that we wouldn't have won without Dufty.

So from the whole season there are three games where he did something "special" and we won. This doesnt offset the poor defence that resulted in losses or made the job more difficult for the team. This also doesn't offset the lack of go forward from him at the back or the poor handling of kicks.

I dont care whether he is a junior or has only played 1 year of first grade. The issue is, he is fullback, a key position and he has a number of shortcomings that haven't improved. We need a top level first grade quality fullback if we are going to see the success we want.

I understand if we had our sights on a marquee fullback that Dufty would not be in the team, however, how many of those are there?

We can still support and encourage our young guys while hoping for a marquee to come along.

If we can't land one, we could actually put Widdop there and go after a marquee 6.

We need a few backs, from the guys that did not perform most of the year, Lafai, Aitken, Nighty, Hunt and in some other weeks Nene were the main problem....and they have years start on Dufty.

At fullback, Lomax could be our Ponga. He is tall and heavy enough to hold his own in attack and defence. He takes the high ball really well and has a great passing game. He is good at setting up other players and is always ready to back up a break. He can also kick goals which may take that burden off Widdop.

If Dufty fails to improve in 2019, Lomax would be my first pick for the fullback position.

I agree with what you are saying about whether a marquee fullback is available and this is a limiting factor with what can be done with Dufty. My comments weren't to try to run Dufty down but to highlight that we should not be experimenting with fullback and making do with nearly good enough. We should have taken steps to find and secure the fullback we need.

Your comment about Widdop moving to fullback and finding a marquee 5/8 is something I've also thought may be a good option.

Can you name the games that we lost due to Dufty's defence?

So is Sharon Woods. You want to swap JDB or Vaughan for Sharon?
Selectors favourites dont dismiss what I see with my own eyes

The last time I looked, Vaughan hasn’t left the Dragons. Please don’t compare apples with oranges.

It is probably easier to find a marquee fullback, than a marquee 5/8.

Are you trying to imply Dufty's defence is OK? I'd say Warriors, Parramatta, Canterbury, Roosters for starters.

The comment wasn't just about his defence leading to losses it was also about the fact it makes it more difficult for the team.

Nope, I am 100% serious here. Dugan’s strengths in kick returns and defence were badly missed on many occasions this year.

Put it this way; I’d rather Dugan’s attributes than someone else that simply is considered a good passer with some speed. If the aforementioned had been fullback in the Storm’s 52-30 thumping, he would’ve stopped a couple of their tried that Dufty embarrassingly failed to do so with inept one-on-one defence.

Dugan is being shopped, huh? That’s the the first I’ve heard of it. Do you have a source to go with that allegation? Personally, I thought Dugan played exceptionally well for the Sharks in their last win for the year (against whoever it was).

Very lucky to be picked for Australia and NSW (as a winger and a centre to which he was not the best at either) as was Fergo..those ships are long gone
I disagree re Dufty and you sell him short after only after 1 full season as a young bloke in 1st grade. Imagine if we cut down some of our legends or better players in the game after their 1st full season in 1st grade. They have not all shined in their 1st year. One of us will be right so time will tell..

I bet you didn’t feel the same way about Adam Quinlan.

He was not Robinson Crusoe as to why we lost the 9 games we did. He was poor against the Dogs i concede and as I have said needs to work on some things but Id say give him time. Target the coach and a few others that did not lay platforms for our attack or did not defend well in the front line.

I was excited when I first saw Quinlan coming into 1st grade on potential and promises alone but from reserve grade and Dufty spent little time in reserves straight out of Under 20's then into 1sts.
It did not take that long to work out Quinlan was not going to make it and he was older. Chalk and cheese, 2 different players and Quinlan proved in the end he was not 1st grade standard in any facet.
Dufty is a more exciting attacker than Quinlan, has things to work on but is still young and I will give him another year to see if he develops further.
Poor Quinlan was in a worse team and likely worse coach under Supecoach Price, but he did nothing when went to Wentworthville... and where is he now!. Quinlan never once won a game for us and never came on from his time in reserves. Time will tell with Dufty.
