I reckon Joel Reddy was under-rated. Very good under the high ball; very good one on one defence; solid centre. I still think if he hadn't been off the field with injury in the '09 grand final, Inglis would never have scored that try, and we would have won.
A great defender who covered Eric Grothe Jr well. They were a great combination.

John Baker, and Denis Fitzgerald...Both EXCELLENT, but never mentioned in "best ever discussions"
I watched the replay of the 1976 Grand Final couple of days ago...Fitzy had a mighty game...and he usually did..Johnny Baker, the type of 'blue collar workers' that every team needs..TOUGH and UNCOMPROMISING - the seventies version of David Gower...always there when you needed him...

I loved Hindmarsh, he was an all time great....but he was a second rower. A work horse. WHen he was young he was an impact plaayer but he just became a work horse and to me the value of Haynes skills and what he brought is just so rare, those game breaking skills. make him the better player. He, Kenny and Sterling are the three greatest Eels.

No Ray Price?

Yeah, I remember John Baker. Ex Wests player, wasn't he? Very very good player.

I feel like Hayne was magical in 2009 and 2014.
But his form and consistency in every other season was no better then plenty of other elite fullbacks. Turbo,Teddy,Rts,Slater for example.
In a time where our side was terrible he stood out. Nobody else was capable of doing anything.
Sure he was fine in other seasons. He was great tbh. But I feel fans are a little one eyed to think his performances bar 2009 and 20014 where better then some of the fullbacks I just mentioned.

Lyon and Tahu both had seasons for us that I would say matched Haynes form for 90% of his career with us. It was just those 2 seasons that where at a higher level that kind of leave an imprint in our brain of his capabilities.

Lyon,Semi,Thursday,Hodgson all provided some amazing seasons. And one named not mentioned.

In 2009 there was a guy in our side who I remember Gould said once. Hayne gets all the credit and he is a weapon. But people do not forget who the other biggest weapon is in this side and who is creating all the space.
His name was Fui Fui Moi Moi. He was a pure animal in 2009. The way he would bowl the opposition over and constantly bend or break the line. It was Toumololo like.

There's another guy who played a huge part in 2009, and doesn't ever seem to get any credit at all: Daniel Anderson.

Imo:

* Luke Burt - his whole career, a lot of people called him a cat, soft, a shit goal-kicker, etc, and yet he scored some cracking tries, and gave his all every week for this club. He was a true club legend.

* Nathan Cayless - he was tough, skilful, and a great leader, but his slighter frame played against him late in his career. But he can always say he captained his country to a World Cup win, and nobody can ever take that away from him.

* Wade McKinnon - good for a few tries every season, but the man was an absolutely brilliant last line of defence.
