Yeah, for me, his biggest problem is the lack of the repeat sets he gets us. Our halfback(s) don't really get us any either. It's bizarre that the cross-field kick to nobody is our #1 option when it's not even that successful for us. It's been a problem of ours for a long time.

To be fair to Mullen though, lately every time we've got into a position where we could score points we're already behind on the scoreboard and trying to play catch-up football.

Seems to me that the other players dont know what Mullen is doing...and nor does he.

i don't know what matches you blokes have been watching, but his repeat set radar is improving substantially, and you're either kidding yourself or just ignoring it altogether. he's not perfect at it yet, but it's pretty clear it's one of the areas of his game that is coming along.

oh yeah, for sure. every player should come out of the box as Greg Inglis. players don't improve their games over their careers with training.

do you have any more wonderful insight?

you have got to be having a f**king laugh. that is embarrassing. do you actually believe replacing Mullen with a bloke who has never played 5/8th before, and is a winger turn fullback... and then putting a bloke who has had 3 or 4 good games of first grade in his entire career (the first 3 or 4) in at halfback is the way to success?

brain dead. absolutely brain dead. you all criticize Mullen and provide options that are infinitely more half baked, stupid or flat out worse. i'm flabergasted.

You hit the nail on the head Pervy. For all the Mullen haters sometimes I find myself wishing Jarrod would sign with the Melbourne Storm. Put him in the Storm system as a halves partner for Cronk and he would annihilate opposing teams. Then all the Mullen haters would see how much more s*** our team would be when Roberts and Stig were forced to run the show.

So easy to kick him when the team is down. If we were winning, it would be largely off his bat, as per usual. this thread wouldn't exist, as per usual. He's our best mate every time we win, worst enemy if we lose. Yep, he played his worst game of the year against the raiders, along with about 13 other blokes. Had been good otherwise this year. Still leads KOTW by a margin. Fickle. Just so fickle. We're tearing each other apart over Mullen, over Wayne... It's just so clear that there is rot that is set in beyond any individual player. Mullen isn't a marquee half, that's been established. I don't think he's getting paid like one, so no drama there. You all expect him to be one, though.

Just get a real halfback. Nothing has changed in that respect, but even having cooper cronk would not fix us right now, so don't expect it all from Mullen. Not really fair on him.

The truth of course is that he's about 20 classes above any other half we have. Turf him and you make our problem a lot worse.
Bingo.

confidence is what we are lacking above all else. confidence in themselves individually, confidence in the coach and confidence in their teammates. there is none of it whatsoever. a good portion of the players don't trust the coach. they don't trust each other... and they don't even trust themselves to get it right anymore. every week, one or 2 more players are losing that confidence and it appears we're now down to pretty much Buderus and Willie.

this isn't a problem with any individual player, this is squad wide. every single player we're seeing play horribly righyt now is capable of so much more in a different setting. can't you all see that? can't you see that they are all at their absolute worst right now? Mullen can't pick them all up on his shoudlers and carry them over the line any more than any other player. he has his own issues in hsi game, but it's all just completely moot because those problems are not the reason we are losing football games now. it's not even on the radar.

i totally agree with your sentiments, SK. drop Mullen in a real team, and he would shine.

The answer to those problems is to get that confidence back, but the question is how do we do that?

they have to earn it back with hard work, on an individual and team basis.

and some blokes are just going to have to be turfed. probably a fair few of them. if you hadn't noticed, this year is in write-off territory as far as competing for finals and whatnot goes. there is no quick fix. i would be expecting more of the same in the coming weeks.

Well, the next four weeks after the bye we have the Tigers (on fire), the Eels (without Hayne), the Rabbits and Manly. We've lost five straight - good chance we'll be up to nine by the time we play Manly.
