Stuart could have played in a dinner suit and therein lay his only shortcoming, a reluctance to get his hands dirty.

thats how it should be...your 1/2back should stay out of the defensive work as much as possible!!
Why risk your halfback by putting in amongst the rough stuff. I would prefer stuart over johns anyday of the century.

TESTIFY BROTHER
and Johns Bananna kick is ripped off from the great man Ricky Stuart. Sticky was doing the reverse kick before they even knew who Andrew Johns was.. and ask the people he played against, stuart wasnt exactly well like on the feild either, he got dirty when he had to. He was the cheeky throw back half of the 80's with all the new age skills of the 90's

Sticky bows to no one!!

Watching throught the 80s, I always thought Wally and Sterlo would be the two players I would be telling my grandkids about. Wally's still on that list. Sterlo survived spirited challenges from Langer and Stuart but must bow to Joey IMHO.

Sterlo could tackle but he couldn't lift the big men and drive them the way Johns does. Alfie was an anachronism, you couldn't put your finger on just what it was that made him a great but he was anyway. Stuart could have played in a dinner suit and therein lay his only shortcoming, a reluctance to get his hands dirty.

Fair call about Joey going quiet or getting frustrated when things don't go his way, we've seen that a few times. But he's still the best half I've seen from 1980 onwards.

Stuart was a maestro Canberra's record with/without him is further apart that Newcastle the same way, which belies how much a player does for your side and in that regard Stuart owns the rest.

McLinden would do well to avoid tackling altogether...
Although I guess when he does attempt to make one, it's the same result anyway.

I can't really talk about Johns being good... Ive never seen him play a full proper season without complaining about some kind of injury.

I would never want Johns in my teams side. We have always had a better player than Johns as far as i'm concerned in Langer and now Lockyer. Both better players, better captains and better people, no need to have a selfish over rated injury prone bighead.

Bahahahaha, that's one of the very few times i've actually cracked up at the keyboard on here.

Andrew Johns is 3 times the player Lockyer ever has and ever will be. Ask yourself this... What has Lockyer done that Johns hasn't matched or bettered?

That's right, absolutely nothing.

Lockyer hasn't a shade of Joey's game to him, and this year proved it.

but never set the house on for for the Broncos
you must not have seen many of his games in 88-89 for the broncos. I can assure you that he won many man-of-the-match awards & topped their tryscoring list in one of those years!
I do believe that johns can be regarded as great but I think Lewis has him at this stage because he dominated the game for 10 years on the biggest stage there is SOO!

My fear for Johns is that he'll be on TV far too often once he goes.

He is bloody aweful. He has plenty of chances to impress me but he is still crap.

Scott Sattler went great for WCC and that was his only time as a match specialist and it was at 6am.

I agree with Raider 69, Johns is a wanker...

I havn't met Johns off field, so I cant comment on that. But On the field he is the best, he actually said that he got his banna kicks from Ricky Stuart and Some AFL.

indeed he did
now try and tell that to a few of the Johns blind knights fans on this board

Stuart took it from AFL and brought it too league, Johns copied him

Stuart = GOD!

My fear for Andrew Johns is that he doesn't have a player the calibre of Luke Ricketson to "protect" him incase another potential Jamie Goddard comes along taking liberties....

johns was the best half since sterling, but time is not on his side
i don't buy the argument that great players should retire before they
'lose it', he should keep going as long as he enjoys it, and the knights pay him!
orford would have to be the most underrated player in the game
[in a creative/organizing position] , he is the games' current best half

and you shouldn't view wally lewis through a few years at the end of his career at nswrl level, he torn us[nsw] to threads for about a decade
he is still the greatest organising player i have ever seen, not quick, not big just incredibly good at reading the game and reacting to opportunities, just like sterling

as for langer, a great little player, but i always rated ricky stuart as a great attacking weapon

Lewis was only carving for Queensland in Origin because he was fresh due to the fact that he only played quality opposition three times a year in Origin instead of week-in, week out in the NSWRL ;-)

Johns is the best half since ive been watching from 95 onwards. My dad rates Sterlo and Ricky Stuart very highly tho. I would rate Fittler up there with Johns tho and i think Fittler outplayed him from 2002-his shoulder injury last year.
And on sheer briliance going on footage i have seen Brett Kenny was absolutely brilliant, as was Ray Price and Ron Coote.

i don't doubt that wally only had a few top club class matches outside origin each year, and most of them would have been with combined brisbane in the national panasonic cup but he was top class every origin match i saw him play
