ok 10kg is quite a bit.

so then, if Slater is a winger:

Slater 178cm 88kg vs

King 190cm 100kg.

12cm and 12 kg conceded to a good jumper of the ball. King would murder him on the wing running the ball, let alone trying to contest a high ball.

Slater= no chance at wing. Hodges= No chance at wing.

speed ain't gonna help when the balls towering in the air. also wing is more than just about speed. Lets talk about positional play as a winger, defusing bombs in a 1 on 1 situation with the opposition winger, knowing when to come in or when to stay out (in defence and in attack as well), when to rush up, when to stay back. He has played the vast majority of his football at fullback which requires a different skill set (1 on 1 tackles, knowing how far to stay back for the big kick while also knowing when to come up to cover the chip and chase.

Just look at Mogg last year.... a solid not a superstar but a specialist winger. how well he did vs Wesser who you would not deny has more talent than moggy.

Mogg was one of the players of the series. came in and did his job and not once did he take a backward step.

wasnt a superstar

was just as solid as a rock

exactly. yet scored 3 tries in 2 games. on the end of a backline of stars like inglis, hodges, tate, tonga, hunt, lockyer and thurston there is enough 'brilliance'.

At this stage:

Bowen/Hunt
(Wing)
Inglis
Hodges
(Wing)
Lockyer
Thurston
Civoniceva
Smith
Price
(2nd Row)
(2nd Row)
Johnson

Berrigan
Ross (after his game last night, I've always been a fan but he's never quite nailed it as he should have)
Myles
Thaiday

There's plenty of spots open for mine.

From what I've seen so far of the form of individuals and teams:
1. Matt Bowen
2. Billy Slater
3. Justin Hodges
4. Willie Tonga
5. Greg Inglis
6. Darren Lockyer
7. Johnathan Thurston
8. Steve Price
9. Cameron Smith
10. Petero Civoniceva
11. Dallas Johnson
12. Michael Crocker
13. Tonie Carroll

14. Sam Thaiday
15. Carl Webb (pending injury, another 6 weeks I hear)
16. Dane Carlaw
17. Shaun Berrigan/Aaron Payne

Even as a Broncos fan I don't understand certain parts of the media and fans saying that Hunt will get the gig because of his combination with Lockyer. With his form last year and the way the combination was functioning at the time I would've supported that point of view but what worth is Thurston's combination with Bowen in 2007? Right now even though we're only 4 rounds in there is no doubt which combination is functioning better and winning games.

I think the stats will tell you that Hunt's not quite the rock at fullback that people make out, whereas Bowen's defense has improved remarkably. And as far as the "safe under the high ball" argument goes, look no further than Hunt's effort (I think in the first half) against the Roosters last Friday ...

Bowen (wont get picked, but the form suggests he deserves it)
Wesser (no chance)
Stagg (injured, hasnt played a game all year)
Lillyman (will find it hard with still being on the bench for the Cowboys)
Slater (in all probability, if they dont pick Bowen, they wont pick Slater)
