He's called it quits early. The players had their say on the weekend.
The story goes that in the sheds after the match Brown put it to the group that he's happy to step aside if that's what they want - and to give him feedback by Monday. He had allegedly received zero contact from the players by Monday and took it as a vote of no confidence.

Supposedly Gardner didn't accept his immediate resignation yesterday and wanted Brown to see the year out. Fast-forward another 24 hours and he's out on his arse.

No-one creates a shambles quite like the Newcastle Knights - regardless of players, coach or management in charge. The situation gets messier by the hour at the moment.

If that's all true then Gardner should be handing in his papers as well because that is farcical. The Knights were a backwater before Brown arrived. He made risky ass choices like signing Pearce that had many people laughing at him, yet it seems to have paid off for the most part. Yes Brown is not the man to lead Newcastle going forward, but the way he has been treated by everyone within that joint, from the disrespectful shit from Ponga early last week to this shambles today has been an absolute disgrace.

No coach with any self respect should want a bar of the place under this current mob.

Hard to cut the truth from the bullshit at the moment. The way these things pan out, the truth may never come out in full.

If Ponga's thickshake and your story are anything to go by, the players are as complicit as the administration in the whole mess and I fear you might be right. Brown didn't go out there and play like busteds after looking like finals contenders early so the playing group need to stiffen the f**k up because the next bloke may not roll over so easy.

There's almost certainly been a falling out between the playing group and Brown. The "why" is what interests me the most - and I don't think we have any clear answers on that at the moment. Until that's a bit clearer, I'm hesitant to throw shit at anyone in particular.

I posted this over at BHQ yesterday morning. It's sweet summer child stuff now:

Just when you thought the fiasco that was the coaching change at the Broncos wouldn't be topped for awhile, along comes the Knights up to the plate. Setting up an out of favor coach for humiliation with the worst timed sacking of all time, and they actually keep him on to have the players rub his nose in how much they don't give a shit. Bumbling incompetence has been the flavor of the year at all levels.

The really tragic part of the story is how much this has let the fans down again. There's not too many less deserving supporter bases than ours. I wouldn't blame anyone for not showing up this weekend to Old Boys day... but you just know that we'll probably get 20k+ there again. Ready to rock up and receive our weekly dose of stabbing ourselves in the eyeballs.

I'll give Newcastle that... They have the most dedicated fans by a long margin - No matter the state of the club, they show up in droves.

Now for the club to let all the good players go, hire has-beens, run themselves into a financial basket case for 10 years, get kicked out of the competition, come back in, continue to run yourselves like a basket case, then get taken over by millionaires - and still be sh*t for another 5 years. A long way to go young padawan.

Brown gets credit for building the roster.
But is absolved for the culture and player attitude.

Brown definitely has some good mates in the media.

To think that Ramien was target as having an attitude problem and not getting along with the team, all for this to happen.
