You fullas are blind

He's 30....30!
His shoulders are gone, he's getting more and more niggles and injuries.
$1million over 3 years is a bit much.
I must not be watching the same game as you guys because Heremaia is not terrible.
He is NOT a "dominant play-making hooker"
I'd rather keep Berrigan for another year then sign Friend for 3.

Arguements are more effective when you don't exaggerate or make things up.

He's 30, big deal.

Benji had more shoulder surgeries before he was 21 than Friend has had in his entire life.

His "Gone shoulders" didn't stop him making 51 tackles in their final game last year and his first game back after off season surgery he made 57.

And what are these niggles and injuries he's getting? Please fill us in.

Heremaia has improved the last couple of weeks, especially in regards to choosing when to run and chiming in with some kicks out of dummy half. Still, he's a makeshift half, not a genuine hooker.

The last thing we need is another Aussie. As the only NZ team in the NRL we need to develop kiwi players in key positions.
i agree with that... but IMO you cant just throw in Mara & Seluini to the lions.

you need a top class starter who will bring the younger guys along.

similar to how Steve Price has brought along Packer, Matulino & to a lesser extent Rapira.

now its starting to bear fruit.... well it was before the season started...

And it's official

Titans hooker Friend signs with Vodafone Warriors

Highly-rated Gold Coast hooker Nathan Friend will link up with the Vodafone Warriors next season on a two-year contract with an option for 2014.

The Toowoomba-born Friend, who was close to playing for Queensland in last year’s State of Origin, has amassed a club record 97 appearances for the Titans since their debut season in the NRL in 2007.
After starting his NRL career with the Brisbane Broncos, he spent four seasons with the Melbourne Storm as back-up to Cameron Smith, playing in the 2006 grand final before joining Gold Coast.
Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Dean Bell said the signing represented a significant breakthrough for the Vodafone Warriors.
“We’re really pleased to be able to secure a player of the highest quality in such a key position,” he said.
“It’s not often anyone rated as one of the best in a specialist role becomes available on the market. Such players are usually well tied up, so for us to get someone as talented as Nathan is a real achievement.”
Friend made his NRL debut with the Broncos in 2002 before joining the Storm where he added a further 34 appearances before becoming one of the Titans’ foundation players.
“I’ve had a great time with the Titans. They gave me the chance to establish myself at first-grade level and I appreciate what they’ve done for me,” he said.
“While my focus is on doing well for them for the rest of this season, I’m also pleased to have my future sorted out for next year and beyond. It’s an important contract not just for me but also my family.”
Named the Titans’ 2009 player of the year, Friend’s a skilful playmaker out of dummy half – as he has proved against the Vodafone Warriors in the past – and is also renowned as one of the NRL’s leading defenders. In last Friday night’s clash against North Queensland, his first outing of the season, he made a game-high 57. Last season he totalled 1120 tackles (the most of all players), 1067 in 2009, 910 in 2008 and 783 in 2007.
Regarded as one of the game’s most durable players, he made 56 consecutive appearances for the Titans to the end of last season.
Friend is a qualified personal trainer and also a bricklayer by trade.

Now Friend and Luck can make all the tackles for the Warriors. Yaaaaaaaay.
So I guess 2 of these 3 are gone - Heremaia, Mara and Berrigan

Who else is off contract?

Well he's a bricklayer I see...he can come down here to Chch on the byes and help us rebuild...;-)

I dunno about this. I'm probably neutral on it as I accept he's a pretty handy player, but can't help but feel they're going after the wrong players and wrong positions.
He'll certainly be good though...just unnecessary IMO

80 minute hooker gives us the option of a 4 forward bench. Bad news for a back-up hooker but good news for a backrower/prop. A win for metre-eating.

The people bagging this signing are probably the same who said the Berrigan signing was terrible. Berrigan has been one of our best this year so far.

And for mine, the Warriors have ALWAYS been best when we have a pack full of steamrollers marching upfield.

^ Agreed! Would be great to give the commentators some grounds for their "big islander forwards" view of the Warriors.
Imagine a bench of Ta'ai, Matulino, Packer and Lousi - ruthless!

Interesting sound bite from Nathan Friend on the radio news this morning - 'I'm coming to play 80 mins a game.'
