New stadium - 2025

There’s no way the club could afford to put $100m into a stadium, one they wouldn’t even own.

I’d support them contributing $20m or so, but that’s about it. Anymore and you’re risking the club as a whole.

Anyway, we don’t need a 30k seat stadium.

They put 22 million into the academy and that doesn't bring in any revenue.

I think the club would definitely be in a strong enough position to fork out the money required.

Western Sydney is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia.

30k is what is required and a stadium of such size would allow concerts and other sports too.

They own the academy and the land it’s on. They wouldn’t own any of Penrith Stadium, but even if they were given a slice the stadium won’t make a profit with only one tenant.

Why do we need 30k? Our best ever home average is about 18k in a premiership year, 25k still offers plenty of room for growth and it means a better atmosphere when there’s only 15k.

Townsville has been hosting concerts and it’s 25k

Thing is, if Labour has stated that only $300 mill would be allocated, why mention that figure at all? They simply should have said the funds won't be available, unless they made that statement just to appease the people in the services sector who were on strike.

It has to be said, the labour party must have figured the returns from a new stadium in Penrith on a napkin with that figure they coughed up. Anyway, the libs screwed us over, now they are paying the penalty. And now we will wait to hear about it in next month's budget.

A slightly amusing take on the election result in Parra is the Libs lost that seat.

We've hit 22k before and have sold out since (capacity reduced to around 21k(?))

For the amount stated, on the existing site with its issues, it would mean a 20-22k Stadium with more corporate areas meaning less seats for members and the public. If it goes like Commbank the western side would be all corporates.

In fairness, part of the reason we don’t always have full attendances is the fact our current ground is not user friendly.

The amenities are sadly lacking and it impacts on me personally given my wife has mobility issues around her MS.

If a new stadium is not forthcoming, it won’t change our love for our team, it just means we will not be able to see games any more at our current ground because it just doesn’t meet the needs of mobility impaired. Which is rather sad given we have been season ticket holders for over 30 years. We’ve been to Comm Bank to see us play the Eels and A League games an$ the facilities for those less advantaged are exceptional. There is one mobility toilet in the Western Stand and able bodied people use it so they don’t have to queue up. It pisses me off but what do you do.

Correct, as a fan you want to be proud of the ground, also players want to play in a quality stadium and would attract other players.

If Parramatta stadium cost $360million to build, then that would be $500million in today's money

It annoys me when they say Parramatta cost $360m. That may have been the cost of the stadium alone, but to build it they had to relocate Parramatta pool which has been rebuilt as a $200m aquatic centre on the old golf course. They don’t include this, but they want to include the cost of relocating the Paceway. Surely this is a double standard!

Time slots don't help.

TBH if they aren't going to rebuild it properly then I'd rather wait.

2 reasons:

the Paceway is dying a slow death. Give it 5 years and it is gone

2nd reason, If the West grows by the million people as predicted. Then an Entertainment venue is being built.

Qudos Arena cost $200m in 2000.
Add that with the Stadium upgrade and that will give an venue that hosts concerts etc and a regular tennant

Townsville doesn't have other venues to compete with.

If CommBank is 30k and Penrith 25k then you aren't getting the extra events to justify

$300 million just doesn’t get the job done sadly.

Its there get out clause,

It’s over, no new stadium, which is sad really, new airport, massive new infrastructure around that.

It’s a real shame, Western Sydney, was going to be the winner, but alas not to be.

I just think the overall benefits were worthy of the financial outlay, sure it was substantial, but going forward I think it was a no brainer.

The Paceway is done now, sadly, but that’s the reality.

They needed this deal to survive but with the change in Govt the deal is gone.

There is no Meriton or other major developer deal on the horizon so they are f**ked basically.

The best case for them would of been take the deal. Move to the Lakes or wherever with a Brand new everything.

Now they will just die out and both projects miss out
