The new club will have its own junior teams which should also play in the Australian system so from first grade down to under 16s that’s places for another one hundred plus kiwi players
Lets see how that works for the Warriors post-covid system reboot- hopefully it yields results.

Its literally a model no one in world sport uses, but it will somehow work in NZ? I think the problem is people are realising there probably isnt another city in NZ capable of hosting an NRL club so they think cobbling a few cities together will answer that problem.

Wellington or Christchurch could have teams. Their rugby teams did better than the force

It's interesting to see people's lack of imagination sometimes. Like the " stadium issue " there's not going to be another team added for years. If you're thinking that you can't do something in years because of an issue today ,You'd really never do anything with that mindset.
When you're doing something new, you're enacting a change... why would you assume things stay the same 🤔

Everything in Te kahs argument is based on everything staying the same or going backwards..
A new team in NZ changes things dramatically. A new team brings capital, attracting fans ( votes) among many changes.
Perhaps the carrot of attracting an NRL franchise will inspire a new rectangular stadium to be built??
Isn't that the entire reason that they get built 🤔
The Gold Coast built 2 brand new stadiums for 2 new teams.
The NRL are in constant conversations with government about stadiums.
If NZ2 got the nod, expect those same conversations and deals to be done.

They’ve done a crap job lobbying Auckland in that case because after 25+ years in the comp the city still has shit stadiums

If you think ANY city in this country will build a rectangular stadium for an NRL team you are have even less sense than I gave you credit for, and that isn't much to begin with.

"A new team brings capital, attracting fans ( votes) among many changes"
That is an assumption without any evidence, to think it will make anywhere near enough to change a cities priorities.
CHCHs new stadium is going to cost north of half a billion dollars and that's only a 35K seated stadium. You think a new team that might bring in 10-20K "new" fans a dozen times a year is going to convince ratepayers that their council should build a new Stadium????? The earthquake happened 13 years ago, the stadium was partially insured, and they only started the rebuild this year. Have a guess why that was, because a large percentage of the population didn't want to fund it.

Australian cities actually really want an NRL team, they will pay for it.
NZ cities don't. It would be a nice to have but there is nowhere near enough support among their ratepayers to put the council into massive debt to build a stadium for a team.

A national stadium was proposed before the 2011 world cup, they even had a site for it. The overwhelming majority of Aucklanders didn't want to pay for it, so it was scrapped and Eden Park was upgraded. There wont be any new Auckland stadiums unless there is a disaster and more than one of them is knocked down.

Yep. Auckland stadium politics is a ridiculously frustrating saga.

NZ #2 should never happen, rugby is like a religion in NZ, why do you think the Warriors have struggled since their inception.
Oh but what about all of the Polynesian players you say, they all live in Australia anyways, and certainly don’t want to play for any NZ rugby league teams.

Eden Park is iconic because of its history (which almost exclusively involves Rugby Union and a bit of cricket) but it’s not and has never been a great stadium.

I agree to a degree that , Rugby League doesn't have as much pull in NZ and it's hard to get people to want to spend the money but..
Wellington stadium is poor and Rugby Union would benefit from a good rectangular stadium there as well!
The All blacks deserve a world class rectangular stadium to play at in their capital at the very least.
The people of that city surely have a sense that they could do better!
A new Rugby league team could be the catalyst that starts a push for that much needed infrastructure.
On top of all that, NZ house prices are headed south and as such, so is the economy. This is usually when governments are looking to spend on infrastructure to generate jobs.

It's all there.

Not a chance. There are ONLY two ways a new stadium will get built. One there is a major disaster like the earthquake that's a hundred years pass due and makes it unusable, or some billionaire builds it on his own dime.
No govt, or city council will spend over half a billion dollars to build a new stadium.
And at the moment due to inflation, the Govt and councils are slashing spending.
Wellington is facing a rates increase of about 13% this year, as part of a 30 year plan to fund the transport and stormwater upgrades that are failing due to lack of resourcing. There is less than zero chance of them spending any money on a new stadium for the next 30-50 years.
Not everyone likes the current stadium, but unless its destroyed another one will NOT be built.

The Warriors may have “struggled since their inception” (apart from the minor premiership and two grand finals) but they still have and always will have played more home games at Gosford than the Bears 😆

As Te Kaha says, not a chance. The stadium in Wellington isn’t terrible by a long stretch. More chance of Auckland getting a new stadium and that ain’t gonna happen either barring some major unforeseen level of cooperation between all the relevant stakeholders (councils, sports organisations and stadium trusts)
