Another post where you comes to the defence of your favourite sport
I'll defend both sports from knuckleheads saying stupid things about them, I'll do it when rugby fans are being the knuckleheads and I'll do it when the league fans are being the knuckleheads. It's you lot at the moment.

Also odd quote for you to make this comment when I'm literally saying how worried I am about the game.

What you're missing, even though you've been told multiple times is that NZ rugby was ready to go it alone, and NZ rugby is in fact subsidising Oz rugby to help them build up their standards.

I genuinely hope you're right about NZ 2 and I hope they're more successful than the idiotic Warriors. But, either way it's not going to see the demise of rugby in NZ regardless of how much you cross your fingers hoping it will be true.

Also, why are you watching a rugby channel on YT?
So they're going to have a 5 team comp ? 2 games a week with a bye every week for what 10 weeks?
That's death.
Or they disband all the Super Rugby franchise and water it down into more teams? None of which would be able to afford 1 all black and all the All blacks play in Europe and Japan..

Yeah mate, sounds like the perfect scenario 🤦‍♂️

They'd likely have an 8/10 Super comp, or ditch Super altogether and make a longer NRL style NPC.

NZR pays the players, how many times do we have to tell you that? They pay the ABs, and they pay the Super Squads, and they subsidise a portion of the NPC squads. So whichever way they sort it the players are getting paid the same.

However, that's only if Oz went bye bye, which they likely wont.

They can’t afford to fund that many teams locally

Is this what we can expect with a Perth NRL team or is Rugby that shit?

I'm gunna say both.
An NRL team in Perth would be double.. about 12k ..

There you go, making incorrect guesses again. I haven't been a moderator in about 4 years, however the title got a lot of people in this thread upset, so its gone... but keep guessing away, I'm sure one day you will get one right.
Must have been an imperceptibly fine line at L.U. between moderator and troll.

Digital version of the poacher turned gamekeeper trope.

Not going to pretend that I’m an expert on rugby union let alone NZ rugby union but you don’t need to be Einstein to see that super rugby is on the decline and that things only look like getting worse than getting better anytime soon.

My position is that it would be a huge missed opportunity for the NRL and obviously RL in general if we didn’t capitalize on the current situation be it with NZ2 NRL franchise, South Island junior teams playing in Aussie competitions or just plain out raiding the stocks of NZ super rugby teams, NPC teams and schoolboy union talent.

For instance if Union was as popular as League in Australia, Australia would dominate and Internationals wouldn’t have as much interest.
The success of the All blacks from such a small country show is testament to that.
I've always thought the All Blacks legend can be largely attributed to Oz embracing League in 1908.

Kiwi patriots might claim that NZ were successful in Rugger before that date (1905 All Blacks tour) but as the 20th century went on, Australia would have found ways to dominate.

In the comments sections of YouTube highlights of Crusaders games, when all the empty seats are mentioned, Cantabrians reply that the view from their sofa is a lot more comfortable.

Don't think it would be any better for NZ 2 NRL. After the novelty wore off, I reckon they'd consistently deliver the lowest crowds in the comp.

Maybe it might improve when they finally get the new stadium, but there doesn't seem much desire to attend sports events in Christchurch. They'll turn up for the All Blacks and other one-off occasions, but not regularly for a club team.

Super rugby is terminal.

No I wasn't, I was making a specific point to you that clearly you're having trouble comprehending.

I am on a rugby forum, and a general sports forum. I don't limit myself.

Doesn't matter what point u were attempting to make, u contradicted urself.

In fairness, super rugby has lost all it's lustre; south Africa is gone & Australia has stopped caring. NRL is a genuine competition that means something

Not that I care in the slightest but the decision to let/allow SA teams to leave was catastrophic.
They didn’t ‘let’ anybody do anything. SA chose to leave to pursue more lucrative opportunities in Europe, and there was nothing anybody could do to stop them.

It was actually a great opportunity for the ARU to cut it’s self loose and start their own proper national competition, which is the only hope there is to save club RU as a commercial product in AUS, but they wasted it.

Too dumb to see that the Kiwi’s are a ball and chain as much as anything else, and too scared to go it alone.

You reap what you sow.

It amazing how their crowds have dropped off from the 20k avg they had at Subiaco. A reflection of how far Union has fallen since then. They've got a lot of work to do to re engage with the Union toffs in WA. Nice market there waiting to be picked up by a vibrant NRL team.
