Australia and NZ are the best places for school/employment etc in the Pacific, As such they will always get Samoans/Tongans heritage players.

I found them to like both sports, So in theory getting the switch is possible. Reality probably not NZRL needs to get itself in order 1st
It’ll come down to money

nrl salary cap will keep going up to a level they can’t compete with

the days of an nrl player getting a base salary of 2 million pa aren’t far off

though I doubt any club would actually be dumb enough to pay an all black that much

Do you actually think that is some kind of gotcha? Of course NZ is going to have some PI players, we have a huge PI population.

Foxtel have been paying a fortune for League as long as I've known, well before any competitors.
What on earth does that have to do with Sky? Sky will not pay overs for league if they are not competing with another broadcaster. Unlike Foxtel (on the eastern seaboard) league does not drive subscriptions, rugby does. That's a simple fact you're failing to understand, apparently willingly so.

Then there's no kiwis eligible playing for Samoa and Tonga, then there's born an bred 6 just in Samoa... which puts people who simply qualify at well over half considering heritage.
Do you have reading comprehension issues? I didn't say there were no eligible players at all. However, most of the ones who are eligible are in the Tongan and Samoan team because they're not good enough to make the Kiwis. It doesn't matter that Tui is eligible for NZ, he's playing for Tonga because he's not good enough for NZ.

you trolls just type random bs up when there is articles written by journalists about this

the all blacks raid Tonga and Samoa whilst in league the boys would rather play for their home nation

anyway it’s good for rugby league so let the all blacks keep doing it

It's not a gotcha at all. Many of those players in the interactive (that I don't think you properly read) moved to NZ as infants or children. It would be unfair of the ABs to not pick eligible players who wanted to play for NZ due to their place of birth.

Also, not all Tongan and Samoan boys want to play for their island teams, there were at least 9 players eligible for the island teams in the Kiwis WC squad, with a couple more in the extended training squad, and a couple more who were in the mid year test against Tonga.

The issue is Rugby guys are used to travel. So going to play in France or Japan is options for Rugby guys

32 out of 1133 over hundred plus years and that's some sort of "gotcha"???? really. That's less than 3%... Jeez you are dumb.

These contradictions come think and fast with you lot 😂
First League's worth nothing, the it's worth 20 to 30 Million..
Then there's no kiwis eligible playing for Samoa and Tonga, then there's born an bred 6 just in Samoa... which puts people who simply qualify at well over half considering heritage.

And if you think either party wants to walk away in those negotiations, you'd be mistaken. Neither wants to have the other walk away or walk away themselves, they both stand to gain a great deal for their companies.
They have lunch and they both want the other to be happy, they make money from making deals and they are both aware of the true value.

Foxtel have been paying a fortune for League as long as I've known, well before any competitors.

You guys have watched too many episodes of shark tank lol
The is a scenario in which both parties are career businessman.

Which is why they wont pay anywhere as near next time than they did this time. And why any new team will not add any value to the deal. You are either too stupid or deluded to know this. Basic economics is clearly something you never understood.

And using foxtel??? really??? that's so desperate it's just funny.
Using a company that pays for a product that will add value to its subscription based, since its by far away the most popular sport in two of the three most populous states in Aus, to Sky buying a sport where only one game a week is remotely popular, as long as it isn't up against a Rugby game.

You really are ignorant of reality.

I think it's a waste of time all this arguing over the colour of the sky..
I'll leave you tolls to your own misery.
You have said that before, and just like the bad smell you are, you came back.

Like I said if the all blacks want to pillage them it’s good for rugby league

meanwhile the arlc is allowing our boys to play origin and also play for samoa or tonga

happy days for us

"meltdown" really? That's the best you can do? You both have failed at providing any evidence to support the any of your "arguments" in this thread and all you have to resort to is that? That's really laughable.

And i wonder what happens when the admins look at your IP and find out your a perma banned member? oooo exciting!

And Sky will say "fine, walk away" because as @Te Kaha notes league is not a big profit spinner for Sky. Most of the people watching league on Sky have it for the rugby.

Also, it should be noted for this thread, the rugby union actually holds a small ownership stake in Sky.

I find this odd commentary. League is small in NZ and it's much smaller now than it was 5 or 10 years ago.

I don't know any fellow NZers here who would claim Australia loves rugby over league. Some do, clearly not in your circles, but league is clearly the king on the east coast - which is why I find it even more bizarre how heated up posters get when people explain that NZers don't love league as much in Oz, so some of the commentary in this thread is just pie in the sky.
RL will never be king in NZ. There are deluded fans on here who think everyone will worship the game like they do if it's shoved down their throat.

Our game could carve out a strong niche in New Zealand, especially amongst the Polynesian community. To do that we will need to place more emphasis on the international game and create a window for Samoa, Tonga and New Zealand to play at least three to six Tests against one another each year. Sadly it won't happen because our game only cares about propping up nine small Sydney clubs that struggle to generate revenue from football operations.

Firstly, it's been established that the ABs aren't pillaging them, but why do you think it's good for league?

meanwhile the arlc is allowing our boys to play origin and also play for samoa or tonga
This is hardly going to encourage more support in NZ for the big league takeover you think is going to happen. Lots of NZers just see it as Aussie league weakening their biggest competition yet you seem to delight it in.

I just looked up irony in the dictionary and it gave this post as an example.

A couple of us NZ posters have repeatedly responded to comments made by you and your mates about the potential for and the current status of league in NZ with facts pointing out how what you're saying is often either misjudged of wrong. Yet you just double down ignoring the facts and now you're calling anyone who disagrees with you a troll. Nice one.

Because of the selfishness of the all blacks in stealing their players the rise in tonga and samoa in rugby league has seen union quickly supplanted

nz will need 2 or even 3 clubs to overtake union

either way it can take a massive amount of the market now with the collapse of super rugby

Is rugby league played in Samoa and Tonga?
