Another article on Spark Sport's demise.

Now that Sky will be a monopoly in pay-tv sports again, they can pretty much dictate price. :(

Does that make it more likely the NRL will add NZ 2 to try and get more money from Sky?
There’s currently a future gap of around $200mill a year in Australian media rights between the codes. Good luck closing that with skynz lol.

One team or two teams wont change anything. Sky doesn't bid based on content, they bid on keeping it out of competitors hands. TVNZ is state owned so they wont bid high and TV3\discovery don't have the money.

I think that's probably unlikely in the immediate short term, but it's almost certainly true in the longer term.

However, that doesn't change the fact that A. the NRL could have got a significantly better return for expansion up front if they'd gone about it differently, and B. there were other expansion options that almost certainly would have offered a higher return on investment in the long term than the Dolphins, and that the NRL turned those opportunities down for what is effectively chump change in the grand scheme of things.

By that you mean I'm reflecting reality as it is, but you find that reality inconvenient and would prefer if it was suppressed, or at least spun to not look as bad as it actually is.

Unfortunately I'm not about that. You can not fix a problem if you refuse to accept that it is in fact a problem.
Dolphins were an excellent choice for team 17

broncos and. News ltd wouldn’t allow easts tigers to come in (which I preferred)

they are in a growth coridoor, 75 years old and have 100 mill in assets. They are going to be a massive nrl club as is shown by their corporate sponsorship

vlandys has said he regrets doing that tv deal during covid that’s his big mistake

he always planned to add redcliffe as soon as he could but covid delayed it a year

next team will be Perth probably the bears and as much as you want to find fault these are excellent outcomes for the nrl given the lack of expansion basically since super league

So you think a profit making organisation will pay more than it needs to because.... reasons

You really don't know anything do you.

It’s not reasons

it’s because it’s more content

what happened you used to troll so much better ?

Yeah double the content... isn't a reason 🤣

They are going to pay more for 2 games a week rather than 1? It's clear you guys a financial wizards... not.

There is zero chance they will pay more for a second team, they will pay less next time as there isn't going to be anybody who will bid against them. It's so simple Anybody with more than half a brain can work it out... Guess that shows how little you have.

What a fool I am. Thinking broadcasters need content.

Please educate me on why they don't 🙏

Ok. I have to run through this real simply for the slow kids...
A new New Zealand team captures the interests of 200,000 spectators nationwide, not actual fans attending games just people of the fence who are interested in seeing them play- a new team from NZ in the biggest Rugby comp in the Pacific- that's a conservative estimate.
To watch them they need sky.
Sky will get 200,000 more subscribers because they have those games...
200,000 × annual subscription = how much more they can afford to pay.
They would pay all of it because they want a profit but they want to increase subscribers... they want those 200,000 extra subscribers.

So a quick search on subscribers and costs per annum × 200,000
Is roughly 81 MILLION!

They don't want apparently 🤣🤣🤣

There's probably more kiwis in perth interested in league than there is Aussie interested in league, so could add as much or more value in Perth for broadcasters... than a Perth team 😉

Except it won't. Again your ignorance of everything New Zealand is showing. It's not a conservative estimate its a complete fabrication.

Sky will not get 200k "more subscribers" they may not even get any. Those who watch League already have access to sky.

And even in your fantasy world of 200K "more subscribers" Sky will not pay anything extra. They only need to pay more than the next bid. Without spark there looking for subscribers Sky has no competition. They have no need to pay more so they wont. Just because the can afford to pay more doesn't mean they will. TV3\discovery is broke and tvnz is government owed so wont be in a position to bid much.

You truly are stupid. They wont pay more because they don't need to. One day you will grow up and learn how a business actually works.

With how many kiwis live in Australia- it would increase foxtel subscription too + × 🤑

Then why are Warriors games rate so poorly in Aussie? You can't even formulate a decent argument.

More made up shit. While it's good that a child like you has a good imagination. Your lack of education is showing.

Yep, I take a break from this thread for two days and come back and the same levels of utter delusion are still being displayed. My read back over the past few pages later today will be interestingly comical I guess.

There's not 200k sleeper league fans in the country who will sign up to Sky when a new team is announced. Furthermore even if they did poach all of these fans from rugby it still wont contribute to new subscriptions because they all already have subscriptions.
