New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Because of the selfishness of the all blacks in stealing their players the rise in tonga and samoa in rugby league has seen union quickly supplanted

nz will need 2 or even 3 clubs to overtake union

either way it can take a massive amount of the market now with the collapse of super rugby

So much to unpack in that post that you have got wrong.

If League has "supplanted" Rugby in Tonga and Samoa, why are there still more Rugby Clubs, teams and players? Why did the recent World Cup have so few Island born players in those teams?

Contact team sports will be dead before League "overtakes" Rugby in NZ.

Super Rugby is irrelevant to the status of Rugby in NZ, not that it has collapsed.

You would know this if you actually lived here, but being an ignorant arrogant Australian you don't.

Kiwi mate tells me (don't know if true)... that the NZRL resist letting the NRL come in and provide funding, grass roots assistance etc. due to fear of losing their sovereignty.

IF true, then it is the NZRL holding the game back in NZ, not the NRL.
The NRL have made a few attempts to get more involved in RL in NZ in partnership with the NZRL and the NZRL have resisted them all. In saying that though, the details of those offers have never been made public, so the NZRL may have been well within their rights to turn the NRL down.

Unfortunately we'll probably never know what really went on there.

They should have given them a seat on the commission and funded them properly.

I don't disagree, however that would require the NZRL to effectively give up their independence, and they'd have to agree to that.

For all we know the ARLC and NRL may have offered the NZRL exactly that only for them to turn it down as well.

Not necessarily, qrl and nswrl have remained independent.

Not really, they're not owned by the NRL, but they are still answerable to the ARLC.

Being answerable to the ARLC would be a significant loss independence in the NZRL's case.
Clearly given recent events they arent. of course $20mill of funding comes with kpis and expectations, as it should, but they are not controlled by the arlc in any way, they have an Independent board their own exec management set their own budgets and have their own strat plans. The court cases just further proved that.

nrlvic, wa, sa and nt where not so lucky and got swallowed by the arlc.

You’re being really thick here.

Those KPIs and expectations would themselves be a significant loss of sovereignty for the NZRL, and do you really think that the ARLC/NRL would offer any organisation a similar deal to the NSWRL and QRL after all the trouble they’ve had with them?

Also would you really trust the NZRL to use that kind of money and assets sensibly given their track record? If I was the NRL I’d want a very tight leash, simply to make sure that a significant portion of the money makes it out of Auckland.

The optics of the NZ league coming under the ARLC’s banner seems to be an issue as well.

The NZRL's perilous position sums up how small our game is in New Zealand and how much work needs to be done to grow its profile. We're not going to see much funding given to the NZRL as it's a separate body from the ARL and a competitor on the world stage.

Not like you to get personally abusive lol
I’m talking 2012 when the commission was set up. If nzrl had been given a seat at the table, $15mill funding and the strings attached to that re performance then I think we’d see RL in NZ in a very different place than it is today. There is no way in the world the nzrl would turn down $10-15mill a year as long as it remained independently run by its own board.

Problem is it also set to bring in $32mill a year and is a major supplier of talent for the arlc. arlc can’t grow the game in nz, only the nzrl can do that.
Arlc are happy, kind of, to give two Independent RL bodies in Australia $40mill a year. Don’t see why nz is any different?

Haha - ok, I'll do some hunting for you. It won't be hard to find RU officials in quite a few countries that get up to nefarious activities to hold RL back.
Since you are claiming that it is NZR officials it shouldn't be too hard to find. Bear in mind that your claims are current, so making claims about things from last century are irrelevant.

I'll see what I can dig up, you know as well as I do that it goes on though

No, It did. It hasn't happened in decades. When the sport was amateur they could get away with it. But being a professional game now, doing so would leave them open to prosecution. I would be VERY surprised if you can find any instance where NZ Rugby officials did anything like you suggest.

Hahaha more vitriol.
But seriously, I'm curious. What's your current role in Rugby Union?
