meanwhile the warriors will trott out in 2 hours to 25,000 fans at Mt Smart
The annoying thing about MP being such a flop though is it effectively keeps Mt Smart a one-tenant stadium - if both sides drew crowds it would be more likely to attract funding for upgrades, which it needs.

You get dumber by the day. Anybody with more than half a brain can see that comment is about MP you twat, NOT the Warriors. That person was responding to the OP about MP. You really are incredibly stupid.

Not a chance in hell of any stadium work for the next decade at least. With the Auckland floods and cyclone damage doing over a billion dollars of damage, and a mayor hell bent on spending cuts, sports will suffer, and stadiums will only be considered for being shut down.

The Eden Park plan, while completely pie in the sky with zero chance of happening is the best option.

Blues all blacks and warriors need to work together
100%.

My “if I ran shit in Auckland” 10c worth:

id be selling the idea of an upgrade to Mt Smart that upgraded permanent capacity to around 25k with the ability to easily add another 5k or so if temporary capacity. You could achieve that by building a permanent lower tier and concourse around the southern end and erecting movable seating at the northern end and on the northern hill- this could easily be moved to the southern concourse to create a second tier there for concert mode where the north end would be used for the stage as it has been for decades. Build the southern cpu course with the capacity for a second tier and roof to be addd in the future, in the same way the eastern stand was built.
Once that is done you’d also have a good enough facility to take over from Eden Park if it was ever completely rebuilt.

You’re probably right- which is why an economical expansion of Mt Smart would be a better option because you MIGHT actually be able to secure funding for it, unlike that Eden Park fantasy

Maybe in a decade or so... but even then I wouldn't count on it.

Why can’t Auckland afford a brand new stadium

is nz a third world country now

Christchurch and dunedin did it

it will have two big club tenants and the all blacks

it should be a slam dunk to get a brand new 40 to 50k capacity stadium done

Dunedin took years and there wasn't any major disasters, ChCh ONLY happened due to the Earthquake and is paid for with a lot of insurance money. Auckland just had two and maybe a third massive damage event.

That's becoming normal for Super Rugby these days, crowds of well under 5k

The Warriors crowd today was smaller than expected due to heroundous weather in Auckland, heavy rain and winds, I'm not sure what the crowd was, maybe 10k not a bad result considering.

the answer to that isn’t simple, but it basically comes down to the complex history of Auckland local government. Until relatively recently Auckland had four separate local council areas and a regional council that mainly looked after transport infrastructure (ports, roads and rail). This resulted in fragmented infrastructure because of course the individual councils only wanted money spent on facilities that were within their areas. They amalgamated a decade or so back, but the amalgamated council inherited a mess of venues with various ownership structures, sporting tenants and interest groups, and getting all of the important ones to agree on a plan to rationalise and update Auckland’s stadium infrastructure has so far proved impossible.
