Many European nations

union is afraid of competition
You get the feeling that they just about tolerate RL in New Zealand.

all the current success and hype being generated by the warriors will no doubt have the NZRU tie&blazer brigade sweating.

Their finances aren’t great and they don’t have the firepower to take on the arlc

by the time the 2027 union World Cup rolls around to our shores the nrl salary cap will be well
Over 15 million and heading towards 20. Million

their code would be hugely vulnerable to major raids especially with them in the shop window on rugby leagues turf

the top nrl player is on 1.4 million pa plus sponsorships and march bonuses. In five years time it will be over 2.5 million pa

just on current figures the super rugby tv deal plus internationals for nz and Australia is worth 135 million pa

this compares with the current nrl tv deal of 430 million pa and will be negotiated soon with expectations of 100 millon more pa

Isn’t the nrl salary cap now set at $12mill until 2028?

Look at nines pathetic metro ratings for the warriors final at the weekend, I’m sure they won’t be falling over themselves to see another nz club in!

T

this is a forum

wow

where rugby league fans can express their views

that union World Cup would struggle for first grade quality

out of the hundred of players there you might get a dozen decent first graders in rugby league

other than pushing in scrums for five minutes the core skills of kicking passing and running are dire

I’d rather watch dragons vs tigers in the nrl
I've been watching a lot of the WC the last few days ( pretty unavoidable in nz) and there's some big strong dudes with crisp passing- you'd pinch a lot of good forwards without doubt.
Not a lot of speed and agility.
There's a lot of talent in the WC without doubt but it's horses for courses.

Valence te whare is only a “cult star” for the dolphins because of his size and physicality.

he’s actually a pretty rubbish RL player from what I’ve seen.
Massive defensive liability.
Whatever work he's doing on his game ( how dedicated he is) needs to be double if he's going to be anything.
He's had a full year in the top grade being full-time professional and still looks like a truck driver.
Flashing neo sign...SUPER LEAGUE

They would struggle in league with the pace of the game

you need to get them as juniors and get them playing our game for a while to handle the workload

ball in play time 36 mins bs 55 mins is just one issue

Says different here.

there seems to be a few Māori names for the north island and New Zealand as a whole.
See this is the difference between the “knowledge” of a Pom reading Wikipedia and that if a born and bred New Zealander. Irrespective of its origins, Aotearoa has been the commonly accepted Māori term for the entire country for at least the last 50 years. Nobody uses it to refer solely to the north island now.
In fact that article you linked actually reinforces what I’m saying, if you’d care to read it properly.

These massive nz tv ratings are goi to add to the next nz tv deal

the warriors form comes at the perfect time

they should look for more games on fta as well as more money

obviously a second nz nrl side would be gold for sky nz and sky open

Shame it only pays 7% of the tv deal! Meanwhile the companies that pay 93% are getting sht ratings for Warriors games.

They get shit ratings because they get shit time slots. Warriors games are often early Sunday or 5:30 Friday/Saturday because a: it works with the time difference to NZ and b: the networks still need to fill those timeslots. So yes, the networks that pay the 93% are probably pretty happy because they get a team that happy to occupy those times.
Let’s see how a Perth team rates when it’s night home games are on at 9pm EST

Don’t be afraid of nz

let Perth stand up on its own merits

this might shock you when the warriors play an Australian team that’s valuable to Aussie networks

That’s a good argument about them carrying the Friday 6 pm slot which Aussie teams don’t want but fox do

A second NZ team is all gravy for Fox, just means they can fill those early timeslots without complaint every week.
Perth on the other hand will enable later timeslots, Sunday evening probably being the obvious one.

Perth doesn’t offer anything a Sydney club can’t fill or already does fill
