New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Look at nines pathetic metro ratings for the warriors final at the weekend, I’m sure they won’t be falling over themselves to see another nz club in!
Why would you bring free to air ratings up for discussion when a quick glance at Perths figures for the Storm vs Roosters was 15k, and the Warriors vs Knights was 19k.
It's not like 9 would be saying "quick we'd better get a team in Perth as they obviously are banging down the door with rugby league supporters with those figures"

Perth doesn’t offer anything a Sydney club can’t fill or already does fill
I wouldn’t say that, the time difference definitely opens more potential timeslots, it’s just a matter of whether those new timeslots are actually attractive to the core east coast TV market compared to those an NZ team offers.

It's not that straightforward.

Yes Sydney clubs CAN host games in that 6pm kickoff Sunday timeslot - but they would probably prefer not to. That's where Perth comes in handy.

You probably won't get all of Perth's home games in that slot, but if half of their home games are then, that means 6 or 7 of the 26 rounds are Perth's for that timeslot.

Similar case for NZ 2 - they can help with that 6pm Friday slot that the existing Australian NRL teams dislike hosting games in.

With 2 NZ teams, if each plays half of their home games at 6pm Eastern on Fridays, that's half the schedule for that timeslot covered.

It doesn’t though

sat 730 and Sunday 700 can be a Sydney club

at a push Sunday 700 pm could be a kind of unique Perth time slot

The massive difference is nz2 offers a huge benefit to sky nz and sky open and also a secondary benefit for Australian tv

Perth offer only the second. It’s local market isn’t hugely desired by Aussie tv

if we’re comparing Perth or nz2 then Perth doesn’t come close against nz2

NZ2 thread, take it to WA thread if youw ant to talk Perth audiences.

250k less people watched the warriors game compared to the storm game. Despite the hype around the Warriors.
Thats why the Australian tv cimpanies are less excitied about another NZ club over another Australian club.

With no competition SkyNZ wont pay more. Why would they? what are NRl going to do, not sell it to them?

700k viewers is why
Thats not how sales work! Despite the extra club and bigger audiences, and all the so called value of more games featuring Brisbane, Ch9 paid nothing more this tv deal than last one. why? Because Vlandys didnt create any competition for Ch9 so they refused to pay more.

NRL: we want you to pay more because warriors are finally rating well if we bring in NZ2
Sky: why would we?
Nrl: er because it will be more viewers
Sky: nah thanks
NRL: oh ok you can have it same price then

you need to grow up and let the adults (well Wb a stunted adult) talk! Im all for NZ2, if Perth doesnt get it I hope they do. But thats irrelevant to the discussion if SkyNZ will pay more for an additional NZ team. Without competition they wont.
Anybody arguing sky won’t pay more has rocks in their head

come up with a decent argument

rugby league is through the roof in nz

It’s never been this strong ever

Hahaha f**kn salty indeed, is perf taking a back seat to a non existent NZ2 bid, hurting your feewings..
Especially since the warriors spent the past 28 years in the comp and finally come good for stretch of this season.. dont worry PR, perth will get a handout licence, its PVL, he wants that govt money, its inevitable! Oops dont talk perf in a nz thread

You can see the future of the nrl will be qld nsw and nz (brisbane one more team nz 2 or more teams)

They will be the bedrock of the comp to support our forays into afl states

The decent argument is becasue they wont have to. Its literally how price and demand works! They went three tv deals hardly changing the value and only increased the last one due to significant competition from Spark.

All the argument you have put forward is Warriros have had one year of popularity so adding another club will make SkyNZ pay more. Ive given you the very clear evidence with Ch9 of a real situation where adding another team that was seen as valuable to the tv company added nothing due to no competition. The odds are stacked that same will happen in NZ. Might not but history and logic would suggest it will.

Sorry not convinced

channel nine had an existing contract which they didn’t have to negotiate

this will be a new contract

if anything the argument to make is they cut the rugby union deal since super rugby is doing so poorly and pay us more

they need the ratings

this is a club team getting basically the same ratings as the all blacks
