New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

So you are trying to claim nz schools are open to league ?
I'm not saying all are, but league has never been a big school game. My ex high school had a league team for a period when enough players wanted to play but some years they just didn't have enough.

But schools in and of themselves really aren't the point though. The forever war mostly doesn't exist in NZ. I know one old guy who hates league, and a couple of die hard leaguies who hate rugby, other than that everyone is happy to follow both even if they have a preference for one over the other.

If the war doesn’t exist why aren’t all open

you know the gps / cas schools in Sydney are a tiny fraction of the total ?

maybe ten schools in Sydney are closed to league

Hahaha f**kn salty indeed, is perf taking a back seat to a non existent NZ2 bid, hurting your feewings..
Especially since the warriors spent the past 28 years in the comp and finally come good for stretch of this season.. dont worry PR, perth will get a handout licence, its PVL, he wants that govt money, its inevitable! Oops dont talk perf in a nz thread

Because there historically hasn't been a large schools influence from league.

A little bit of googling finds that Auckland has a schools comp which appears to have all of the main A1 schools (the Auckland rugby comp) and the runner up in the national NZ schools rugby comp (called the Top 4) plays in the league 3rd division comp.

In the regions there's likely not enough players, the school I mentioned in my previous post is a Super 8 school (realistically the top rugby comp in the country although Aucklanders will argue for the A1) and as part of Super 8 they play a bunch of sports (soccer, basketball, debating etc) so if the demand was there they'd play it but I expect the majority of players are in the 1st XV, 2nd XV, and U15s XV so it would be difficult to put together.

I’d be shocked if league was allowed in private schools just like in Sydney (catholic schools being the exemption)

See this is the difference between the “knowledge” of a Pom reading Wikipedia and that if a born and bred New Zealander. Irrespective of its origins, Aotearoa has been the commonly accepted Māori term for the entire country for at least the last 50 years. Nobody uses it to refer solely to the north island now.
In fact that article you linked actually reinforces what I’m saying, if you’d care to read it properly.
So I was right after all it’s just not used today.

shame really because Aotearoa warriors has a good ring to it compared to north island warriors.

still prefer the original name of Auckland warriors though.

Again, you're trying to look at NZ through an Oz lense which doesn't work. Private schools don't dominate rugby in NZ.

NZ2 thread, take it to WA thread if youw ant to talk Perth audiences.

250k less people watched the warriors game compared to the storm game. Despite the hype around the Warriors.
Thats why the Australian tv cimpanies are less excitied about another NZ club over another Australian club.

You've inadvertently promoted the case for the Brisbane Tigers to get the 18th licence.

You can bet your arse that the Brisbane Tigers will generate better ratings around the country for Ch9 and Foxtel than a Perth-based team. Any game between the Brisbane Tigers and a Sydney club will draw a strong rating in Brisbane and Sydney.

Thats not how sales work! Despite the extra club and bigger audiences, and all the so called value of more games featuring Brisbane, Ch9 paid nothing more this tv deal than last one. why? Because Vlandys didnt create any competition for Ch9 so they refused to pay more.

NRL: we want you to pay more because warriors are finally rating well if we bring in NZ2
Sky: why would we?
Nrl: er because it will be more viewers
Sky: nah thanks
NRL: oh ok you can have it same price then

Less Broncos games on Ch9 this year is why they didn't pay more (and why News Ltd did).

They will, and if just up to tv I’m sure they’d go that way, hopefully though the nrl makes the choice to grow the game for a change, not just pander to tv. Having said that Storm remain one of the top overall watched clubs so maybe different cities might be more appealing than you think?

Really not sure where that article is coming from. They seem to be having a go at the NZ Sec School teams selectors, which is fine, but there is no dominance of private schools in NZ schoolboy rugby. They are also trying to make a class structure debate, but, the entirety of the second part of the article was about the dominance of state schools.

One private school has won the Top 4 in the last 20 years.

You would’ve been right if you’d said Aotearoa WAS the Māori name for the north island, but you said IS, which is incorrect. It hasn’t really been used in that context for a century, and even before then it wasn’t a term that was universally used or even particularly old.
The key point though is that you wouldn’t use it to refer to a team that was trying to identify only with the North Island because people would find that misleading.

Ive read stories from warriors players and some league juniors that went to the all blacks that they were pressured to play for the first 15 and not play for their league clubs on the weekend

private schools the world over hate rugby league purely on class based reasons

even in nz there’s that war against rugby league

I went to a private school in Sydney im well aware of the bigotry

That’s not a rugby vs league thing though, it’s a schools vs clubs thing. I remember my school not even having a 1st IV one year because all the players ended up going and playing club rugby instead. Schools want the best players playing for the school, not bashing themselves up in club jerseys on the weekend.
