So many assumptions. Ifs and buts.

No assumptions. No hypotheticals. Just plain facts based on information supplied by the Gemba report and Sydney Morning Herald. You obviously need to buy a dictionary.

I provided actual evidence to refute the idiotic claims you made. Now you're sooking and deflecting because you've lost.

It's as if you think a magic wand is waved and everything falls in place.

You're an idiot.

You assume new clubs in NZ or Perth will struggle financially. That's a massive asumption.

You've got a mindset that the only way to fund a sporting organisation is through a leagues club. Your living in the 90s.

Based on how things stand right now then yes, there is only one financially viable option that can step up and field a team in the NRL at such short notice without assistance.
you have zero idea of that is true or not.

1. you don’t know how wealthy the wa consortium is or what the wa govt is offering

2. you don’t know the real money the bears can draw on to bid for a license where ever nrl decide next club should be

3. You don’t know what miney feds are putting in table for png

4. you don’t know how much money easts have got to put into a club behind some sound bites (no financial available)

5. You don’t know who might come out of the woodwork if they decide to call for bids in any particular city.

so saying tigers are the only financially viable option is just biased nonsense

I provided data on how much it cost to run a small rugby league club in Sydney. Perth will require far more because it'll have additional expenses.

The Storm football club spends about $20 million a year, or about $2-$4 million more than most other clubs except for the wealthy Broncos.

The Cowboys generated over $22.59m in 2022 from football operations. On top of that they had access to revenue from gaming.

Here's the annual report so you can see for yourself:

Only the Broncos generated more revenue from football operations.

Tell me how a Perth-based team will be able to generate as much revenue as the Cowboys?

The Western Reds and Auckland Warriors struggled and went bust. So did the Cowboys in their formulative years. You're kidding yourself if you think everything will by rosy for a Perth-based team from day one.

Why will perth cost more than a sydney club to run? With a supportive govt it may welL get much better stadium deal and other support.

most clubs operate on around $32mill a year of which $17mill comes from the nrl. That leaves clubs needing to generate $15mill in sponsors, corporates and fan spend. 20k members, 15k crowd avg and a full sponsorship/corporate portfolio in the region of $7mill revenue has been proven to be enough to make a club $1-2mill profitable With the the increased nrl grant.

Stop talking rubbish. You know full well there is a WA consortium of businessmen led by Cumins who are ready to bid.

Now you're lying through your teeth. A quick Google search brought up this:

GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT THIRD PARTY BIDDER FOR WA-BASED NRL TEAM

The McGowan Government has flagged its support for a potential Western Australian-based National Rugby League (NRL) franchise, with work underway to identify a third-party bid.

  • McGowan Government to support potential third-party bid for a WA-based NRL team
  • A successful bid for an 18th NRL team in WA will bring community, economic and tourism benefits
  • Working group established to identify bid team

The McGowan Government has flagged its support for a potential Western Australian-based National Rugby League (NRL) franchise, with work underway to identify a third-party bid.

The NRL will expand to 17 teams in 2023, with the expectation the competition will further grow to 18 teams in the following years.

A cross-agency Government working group chaired by the Hon. Peter Tinley MLA has been established to help facilitate the development of a third-party bid and, where necessary, assist the bid through the potential bidding process.

Preliminary work has already begun with VenuesWest appointing consultants Freshwater Strategy to ascertain interest from potential third parties and determine the most appropriate bid structure.

The inclusion of a WA team would deliver significant economic and tourism benefits through the attraction of interstate visitors and exposure of the State to large television audiences on the east coast.

A local NRL team would also provide an opportunity to further grow participation in community rugby league which - with 4,100 registered players - is the game's third biggest jurisdiction behind the traditional strongholds of NSW and Queensland.

While an 18th team would provide the NRL with an additional weekly fixture, a WA-based team has an added benefit of an additional TV timeslot given our time zone.

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:

"Two recent sellout State of Origin Fixtures demonstrate that there is a strong and growing appetite for rugby league in Western Australia.

"A WA-based NRL team would bring long term community, tourism and economic benefits to the State and grow local participation in grassroots sport, particularly female participation.

"Although the State Government won't be leading the bid or responsible for a potential franchise, we are confident that there will be a strong and compelling case for a WA-based team.

"WA's nation leading economy provides an enormous opportunity for the NRL to maximise corporate support and fan spending.

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Roger Cook:

"Anyone who was at the stadium for this year's sold-out State of Origin saw how passionate WA fans are about rugby league.

"It was an amazing night that sent a clear message to the National Rugby League executives who were there.

"If they want to make the NRL a truly national competition then they need to have a WA team playing every week.

"A WA team will be great for the competition but would also act as an economic driver for WA tourism businesses.

"WA has been the sporting capital of Australia in 2022 because of the McGowan Government's event strategy so it makes perfect sense to seriously investigate a bid for the 18th NRL franchise."

Comments attributed to Working Group Chair Peter Tinley:

"There are so many West Australian rugby league fans who are looking forward to the day when they can support a WA-based team.

"WA has strong foundations to support an NRL franchise with participation in the sport behind only NSW and Queensland, and encouragingly, nearly a quarter of all registered players are female.

"I look forward to seeing the development of a strong third-party bid and working with them in securing an NRL franchise for Western Australia".

Ffs get a clue! They said initially will talk to any interested bidder and decide who to back. They’ve talked to numerous ones And will continue to do so I suspect whilst waiting to see what city nrl is goi g to choose to invite bids from. That doesn’t change the fact there is a wa consortium led by cumins ready to enter a bid. Pudy has also talked about putting in a bid but not heard from him for a while.

‘It comes as the NRL is weighing up where its 18th team will reside in the coming years and Sackson believes Perth has a strong.

There is a consortium of very successful businessman in Perth who are also passionate rugby league people that are working behind the scenes and doing lots of ground work,” Sackson said.’

Why will perth cost more than a sydney club to run? With a supportive govt it may welL get much better stadium deal and other support.

A Perth-based club will need a much larger football department to identify players in Queensland, NSW and NZ. On top of that, it'll need to cover the costs of flying players across the country to compete in the Queensland/NSW Cup. A small Sydney club doesn't have to worry about these expenses.

If Perth fields a team of its own in the QUEENSLAND/NSW Cup then will be even more expensive.

most clubs operate on around $32mill a year of which $17mill comes from the nrl.

You know that the Storm spent more than every club bar the Broncos between 1998 and 2013. You also know a Perth-based club will rely on the same model to acquire quality players so they can field a successful team. A team that sits at the bottom of the ladder year in and out will struggle to generate a sizeable fanbase. There's no guarantee that Perth can generate an active fanbase of 15k with a team that runs poorly like the Force and Rebels. It'll need to be competitive. Even Cam Smith said this.

According to the VenuesWest public statement, there's only 4,100 registered players in WA. Almost a quarter of them are female. That means a little over 3,000 players are male.

Now you're just deflecting and speculating.

None of these potential bids have been endorsed by the WA Gov.

Can you find a press release from the WA Gov saying they've found a consortium that they're willing to endorse?

Nrl pays for travel. paying half a dozen scouts part time salaries isn’t a big cost, I fully expect they will have a partnership pathway agreement with clubs in nsw and qlnd as well to deal with that.

nrl largely pays for reserve grade sides now, it’s part of the grant increase agreement And part of current cost for all clubs so no extra costs there.

ive still no idea why Storm needed To spend that much, I’d suggest, like reds in SL, it’s news it’d owned and they could piss as much money away as they liked on it to make it successful.
and for the umpteenth time perth in 2027 won’t be Melbourne in 1999! The nrl is totally different, the clubs funding is totally different, perth will be much bigger that Storm where when they started, better facilities, better stadium and so it goes on.

yep 3000 men now, but we had 10k in 1990 in a city of 1mill, a new club will be part of rebuilding all levels of the game here. And like I said we’ll have partner arrangement on east coast/nz for player development in same way Storm have done so successfully and now other clubs do across the game.

Haha, you’ve gone from no bids to none are endorsed by govt (which you or I have no idea if true or not). Make your mind up!
WA has at least one potential bid group ready to bid, possibly up to 3 Or 4.
Which the govt is backing, if any, time will tell. They put $1/2mill aside for the bid development 8n this years budget so I expect we will hear soon enough, probably waiting to hear what the nrl is doing. If they’ve already decided on somewhere else no point wasting taxpayers money.

Why do you think the WA Gov is searching for a potential consortium?

If they have one then why haven't they announced it?

Brisbane Tigers and PNG are actively bidding for the 18th licence. ARLC has publicly endorsed PNG. Ch9 favours Brisbane.

We know of a Perth-based consortium bidding for an AFL licence. You talk them down because it doesn't fit your agenda, despite having support from the Joondalup mayor.

It’s called due diligence! Wa govt is quite rightly looking at who it should back with taxpayer funds. Why haven’t they announced anything yet? Well there’s obviously a number of possible reasons
1. they still havent decided which if the interested parties they will back
2. they are still canvassing possible bidders
3. they have chosen but won’t make next move which involves spending tax payer money until the nrl decides where the bids will be called from

You said there was no interested bidders known in perth. I’ve just shown you that’s Bollox. There’s at least 4 that have been talked about. Cumins led, Puddy led, bears and jets. Out of those 4 cumins is the one who has been at this since we lost the reds, has a group of prominent business men on board and has already developed one bid business case back when we thought nrl would expand Last time And has publicly stated he is ready to bid again if given an opportunity.

im not even going to bother talking afl with you, perth isn’t getting another afl club for a long time full stop. Joondalup mayor hot air or not.
