Every argument / debate has to always come back to how it helps Perth NRL team get over the line

I'd like to see the next three teams come from Perth, NZ and Brisbane. I don't really care about the order they enter, but I think it would be safer to start wirh Brisbane Tigers because they have the infrastructure in place to go right now and rely on a strong roster to generate a strong fan base. This is a luxury that NZ 2 and Perth do not have.

My worry with going to Perth now is it could set expansion back if it struggles on and off the field. If that were to happen then we could wait up to 20 years for any further expansion.

NZ2 is an intriguing but frustrating candidate. There's no clear candidate sticking its hand out for the licence. Until we know where it will.be base and how it will be financed then I'll have doubts on it. I'd rather see the ARLC wait until they have it right.

Out of the three bids, Perth is the most risky and offers the least. I wouldn't be surprised if the AFL were to introduce a team in Joondalup to counter a Perth-based NRL team. Fremantle entered the same year as the Western Reds. I won say that Fremantle introduction killed the Reds, but I think it took some attention away from them.

never been a better time in history for RL in New Zealand to really make an impact at all levels in that country.

even fiji would be a gold mine for nrl talent

fiji should have been a gold mine for RL talent for well over 30 years by now when we first saw the calibre of athletes they are from that island in the form of players like noa nadruku, petro civoniceva and Lote Tuqiri etc.

The ARU expanded to Perth and Melbourne after the 2003 World Cup with the goal of becoming a national sport and usurping rugby league.

The Wallabies are a joke.

Super Rugby has gone from drawing strong crowds 20 years ago to playing in front of fewer than 10k people.

I think sup rugby would snap your arm off for 10k crowds these days.

I’ve seen some super rugby crowds this season gone which can’t have had more than 2k-3k in the stadium, even in NZ.

the gap is the narrowest it’s ever been at test level and there used to be a trans-Tasman test series during the 80’s&90’s which was awesome even when the kiwis were nowhere near as strong as they are today and have been for the last 10-15 years.

What I'm seeing here in Christchurch is the opposite of everything we've been told. Everyone was riding the Warriors- massive atmosphere in all the bars! I was at a bar just this afternoon that had a huge sign " NRL on 24 screens!"
Not only is Rugby league better but it's being realised! On a massive scale! It's more trendy amongst younger people and catching on fast!
The iron is red Hot!!!!
Another team in NZ right now would be a bonanza for the NRL!

I've been to Wellington and I'm in Christchurch now and what I'm seeing and hearing won't be lost at NRL headquarters, they'll be well on top of this.
The next team will be NZ . Guaranteed.

We already have this with the pre-season all stars match which is more than enough. No need to waste anymore time and money with that concept when you have a tried and tested winning formula in the trans-Tasman test series which includes all race, colours and creeds.

but the AFL arnt doing more expansion for at least a decade so doesn't it make sense to get into perth ASAP?

Been saying that for years, if we can get it right with NZ a three Test series between our two countries would very quickly replace the bledisloe, it could be absolutely massive.

Based on how things stand right now then yes, there is only one financially viable option that can step up and field a team in the NRL at such short notice without assistance.

The WA Gov haven't decided which consortium they will support.

New Zealand doesn't even have a consortium bidding for a licence.

The ARLC doesn't fund expansion like AwFuL props up the Lions, Swans, Suns and Giants.

IF the ARLC were interested in creating a team and funding it THEN they could put one anywhere in Australia or New Zealand. But that's not how they operate. Nor is the ARLC set up in a way to allow that sort of thing to happen. Every NRL club, QRL and NSWRL gets to vote on these matters. They're not going to vote to put money aside to expand into Perth and Adelaide just because your mate wants them to. The clubs will never agree to a new club getting any advantage over them. The QRL and NSWRL will not relinquish power to the Affiliated States.
