SEQLD should have been Broncos, Brisbane 2 (easts/firehawks i guess) Titans and then Sunshine Coast down the track IMO. Dolphins have since claimed the Sunshine Coast as their territory though which is bullshit. With the Olympics coming the Sunshine Coast stadium is far more likely to get a major upgrade than Kayo stadium.
If sc gets upgraded to 20k plus There’s nothing stopping the dolphins playing games there and Suncorp

kayo is a dump it’s not fit for nrl

Dolphins will only play on Sc if the council pay them to do so. They have already cut down to one game a year due to council refusing to pay for more than one game. SC is cash grab for them not some legitimate second home.

I don't understand the obsession on here with ignoring RL heartland. If there's demand for a team in RL heartland then it deserves just as much consideration as a bid from a city that doesn't care for the game. There's a limit to how much talent the heartland can produce for expansion teams in Adelaide and Perth.

They weren't before the Ireland game.

I think your hope for the thread has taken a dent today, terrible crowd at the Sa's v Kiwis. Should really have played it at Mt Smart.
Assuming they get past England I’d say Springboks are probably favourites. The crap crowd at the Kiwis vs Samoa game would suggest there’s not an appetite for Auckland 2. Did hear the ticket prices were pretty high though. Curious how the second Kangaroo’s game in Waikato goes crowd wise

Looking at the Auckland crowd it’s clear what we need is a Samoan or Tonga club in Auckland, not a nz2 lol
don’t nz’ers identify with the kiwis?

Surely if there was ever going to be another regional qlnd team it will be Sunshine Coast? not there will be.
stadium aside a small city like Christchurch may well struggle to sustain an nrl club when rl is a distant second to union in the region.

Sunshine Coast is probably “represented” by Dolphins now as far as the NRL is concerned. Dolphins need to do a more in the area if they want to hold off a standalone bid from there in the future though.

Why did you leave out games from the late 80s and early 90s?

In 1990 a NSWRL game drew 23,566 at the WACA. A year earlier a NSWRL game drew 21,922 at the same venue.

Only two of the games on your list involved the Western Reds. In their debut season they averaged 13,390. In their next two seasons their average plummeted below 9k. It's one of the reasons the club was axed.

What's the point in adding a team to Perth when games between interstate teams draw better crowds?

Just take four teams to Perth every year to play in a double header. That's enough to satisfy Perth's tiny RL community and event goers.

Brisbane shouldn’t have any teams. 24-8 up in a GF up against a team with a one-legged halfback they got away with hipdropping and they still lost. At least Perth has won things since the IPhone came out.

Lol, whooosh. Saying a city doesn’t care about rugby league when it has a thirty year history of drawing big crowds to rugby league games is dumb, You are dumb.

Kiwi's are werid and will support the Warriors this year yet can't get the backside out to watch Super or NPC Rugby.
Unlike NRL or French Rugby Union New Zealand have 11-12 Stadiums thats stand empty most of the year.
Wanting the Boks to win now.
NZ fans get behind the AB’s, not so much anything below it, while RL fans get behind the Warriors more than the Kiwis

The Samoans and Tongans are very patriotic and will get a game every couple of years in Auckland to see live so turn up in droves. Doing it week in and week out you won’t get the same- eg Moana Pasifika. See a similar thing with expat kiwis in Aus.
Outside of Auckland you’d see much less pi support.
Kiwis play so rarely and irregularly it’s had to build up dedicated support vs the other national teams that have a regular clearly defined schedule

If Perth cared about rugby league then it would have more than 4,000 people playing the game.

Only 5k people in Perth watch regular season NRL games on 9Gem.

The Western Reds were a miserable failure. The local business sector didn't care enough to bail them out when the team went bust. The club only had 8,000 active fans. Deal with it and stop deluding yourself into thinking RL has a strong following in Perth.
