They weren't before the Ireland game.

I think your hope for the thread has taken a dent today, terrible crowd at the Sa's v Kiwis. Should really have played it at Mt Smart
My argument is for an NRL team, so it really has no effect on my argument.

It was a terrible crowd and Mt Smart was a better option. Playing an international at Eden Park is 20 years away from being viable. A Warriors final maybe but the Kiwis need to become a force against Australia for 10 or 20 years before that gains traction.
You couldn't be staging these games at worse venues tbh. 2 biggest rl cities of Brisbane and Sydney don't get a game? It's feels like it's being deliberately held back.

Samoa vs NZ - Mt Smart or Hamilton
Australia vs Samoa-Parramatta
Australia vs Nz - Brisbane
The final- Mt Smart or Hamilton

Coincidence that Union played the Ferns vs France at the same time and took the fta spot...6.30 in NZ..
Prime time in NZ is 8pm and would have allowed both on free to air but no.. Union doesn't try to stifle League..
JUST WITNESSED THAT FIRST HAND.
but nevertheless the Kiwis look Prime! And if they beat Australia next week, they will have a packed Hamilton final with no competition..
That we can build on.
Don't you think the kiwi team looks good?

Even the All Blacks don’t get FTA coverage and the kiwis time was set by 9 as they were the broadcaster for the tournament and don’t want a 6pm news clash. Nothing to do with ‘Union stifling league’

Yes League kicked off at prime time Australia for channel 9.

The NZ Ferns played France at the same time... why?
Not for NZ, not for France... and certainly not for NZ prime time...
The only reason is, it drew viewers from the league game.
There's no other reason .

This would have been played at 8pm( prime time) and wouldn't displace anything.

I was starting to side with you guys on this until the only way I could watch the League was delayed due to choosing to stage a Union game at the same time.
f**king losers.
f**k Union .
This is how this shit sport survives.

Auckland being the main concentration can't be excluded and it was obvious from that crowd and Tongan ones of the past that the Kiwis aren't number 2
Kiwis are definitely more popular than 2 foreign national teams in NZ, you can’t equate the largest concentration of pi expats in the world turning up to a 1 off game every couple of years (the only time they ever get to see their country play anything pretty much). NZ is much more than just Auckland. Culturally NZers are a lot more reserved in their support at stadiums than the PI countries which exaggerates the support/popularity.
Was at the Warriors v Eels game at commbank earlier this year and a small section of Warriors supporters drowned out the Eels supporters but you’d be Naive to suggest the Warriors were the more popular team in Parramatta…

You're talking out of your ass again mate. If rugby was trying to stifle league they would have played the NPC final in the prime time spot in FTA and not a women's rugby match.

And, that crowd should have given your NZ2 some food for thought. The appetite for league in NZ isn't as great as what you think. The Warriors rode the hype of being away for years, being successful for the first time in a long time, and discount tickets. We wont know until at least the end of next year whether that's sustainable.

Also, I think the Kiwi team looks great and I loved the hiding we handed out to the overhyped Samoan's but that crowd was piss poor and it carries over even to this forum. This match barely got a mention in the NZ section of this place. Club before country in league sucks balls. I was embarrassed by that crowd, my fellow NZers need a kick in the bum.

And yep the games allocation for this comp are stupid, the NRL and their proxies who run this balls'd up the venues. Stupid to not have this week's game in Sydney.

Outside of the massively hyped and promoted women’s RWC no one really watches the Black Ferns in great numbers (similar situation with the Matilda’s) The NPC final was yesterday (2hrs before the league test) which would have run head to head if it really was as you said

You might be right but seems there's definitely a crowd uptick when Tonga and / or Samoa are involved

Samoa v Tonga in Hamilton 18k
NZ v Tonga in Hamilton 24k
Tonga v England in Auckland 30k
NZ v Aus in Auckland 12k
NZ v Samoa in Auckland 23k
NZ v Tonga in Auckland 23k
GB v NZ in Christchurch 8k
GB v Tonga in Hamilton 9k

You're against NZ2 because it's a threat to Perth.
I’m all for nz2 lol
Just we haven’t actually seen any strong bid emerged yet for It and there doesn’t seem an obvious favourite location for it to be based.

perth
nz2
adelaide bears

that is my favoured expansion strategy in that order.

So you like the Bears now… provided they aren’t with Perth
no I like Adelaide, but it’s so underdeveloped it will take twenTy years of hard work and investment to get them nrl ready, or to partner with an existing second tier club looking to step up. Hence the bears is the unsavoury but necessary fast track for Adelaide. They may even need to be in nz if no decent nz bid comes forward.

Holding the game at the end of the year isn't ideal. Only the most active RL fans remain interested in Test matches after they've watched a long NRL season.

Give them to Perth … I know you wouldn’t mind the Perth team playing a minimum of 4 games at North Sydney Oval…
