New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

It started at 3pm on a Friday and the next day clashed with an AFLW derby at their newly built world class stadium.

The world nines in 2019 for context got 12k the first day with no such inconveniences. 2nd day’s crowd numbers aren’t posted anywhere.

If the NRL Nines cannot compete with an AFLW Derby then how will the Pirates fare going head to head with the Eagles and Dockers?

International RL isn't a draw in Australia and New Zealand.

dude is literally arguing that NRL can only be a NSW and QLD game. Seriously starting to think he's an AFL troll... He probably wanted the Donkeys gone because they are bigger than the Lions.

The bizarre thing is that he keeps making a strong case for why we should invest in the game, in the areas west of Melbourne.

- increased Govt funding and political clout
- larger junior numbers
- local team generates more interest in the sport overall
- wider sponsorship opportunities

You need medication. First you ranted about the ARL and ARU plotting with one another to keep rugby league out of Perth. Now you're claiming anyone who doesn't share your delusional viewpoint is doing AwFuL's bidding.

I suppose you'll accuse media analyst of being on AwFuL's payroll?

His stance on expansion mirrors mine. He has worked with the NRL on previous broadcast deals.

You're a complete moron.

I didn't bring up AFLW. TheEroticGamer brought it up and used it an excuse for the shit attendance for the NRL Nines. I didn't even know about the AFLW Derby until he brought it up.

A quick Google brought up this:

Thousands stuck outside Optus Stadium minutes before kick-off of inaugural AFL Women’s western derby

Optus Stadium is under fire after thousands of fans were left stranded outside the venue minutes before bounce down for the inaugural AFLW western derby between the Fremantle Dockers and the West Coast Eagles.

Fans proudly donning their WA footy colours were left seething after lines stretched further than Matagarup Bridge, with gates closed up to five minutes before the historic women’s game was set to begin.

Some fans decided to give up on the queue and headed for The Camfield instead, which could have an impact on the official attendance numbers.

Early reports indicated more than 40,000 people would go through the gates at Optus Stadium this afternoon, with all proceeds from the $3 ticket sales going to bushfire relief.

Stirling councillor Elizabeth Re slammed the venue for its “poor planning,” saying fans had waited for more than half an hour to enter.

Other disgruntled football fans called out the stadium for disrespecting the women’s game by leaving gates closed despite an expected crowd equal or exceeding men’s games in WA – the Perth Scorchers only cracked the 30,000 crowd attendance in their opening BBL game this season.

A spokesperson for VenuesLive told thewest.com.au that late-arriving crowds had caused the congestion before bounce down, with the unpleasant weather conditions keeping fans away earlier.

He defended the handling of the event, saying the right number had gates were opened for the expected crowd.

“It’s probably the latest-arriving crowd we’ve seen for a game at Optus Stadium,” the spokesman said.

“We had the same number of turnstyles open and staff as any Dockers or Eagles (AFL) game last year.”

On the field, the Dockers are putting on a dominant display, leading the eagles 33-7 at half time.

BY THE NUMBERS
The crowd of 35,185 fell short of setting a record for a women’s sporting match in WA, set when 41,975 came to watch the Dockers play Collingwood two years ago when the new stadium was a novelty.

The attendance also fell short of the crowd at the first men’s western derby in 1995, when 40,356 fans at Subiaco Oval saw the Eagles win by 85 points.

The AFLW crowd record remains 53,034 for last season’s grand final, when Adelaide defeated Carlton at Adelaide Oval.

The attendance for the NRL Nines that day was under 15k. The AFLW game had 21k more people turn up. You're such a moron.

Perth nines was a clusterfck of an organisation. Should never have been a Fri valentines night and Sat. Play it Sat and Sun and it cracks 30k total no problem.
NZ Nines started strongly but novelty soon wore off, hence why the promoter abandoned it.

Nines is a fun Feb event and done well can be a nice pre season earner for the NRL. Needs to be alternated to different venues though each year to keep it fresh.

The good thing about nines was it gave a platform for rookies from the junior grades and late developers from the Queensland and NSW cups looking to break through and maybe earn a train&trial contract.

More bullshit excuses.

35k flocked to Perth Stadium to watch the AFLW game on the Saturday. Just 14k showed up to Perth Rectangular Stadium to see the NRL Nines.

Just accept that rugby league is a minority sport in Perth.

What do you think will happen when the Pirates play on the same day as the Eagles or Dockers?

What's the arguement here?

That we can only to a place that has no NRL team IF the NRL is more popular then AFL?

That's his brilliant line of thinking, yes. Small mind, no ambition.

You're one of the wankers who ridiculed the attendance at last week's PNG vs Fiji game.

It's funny how the delusional dyslexic dopes of "Perff" scrutinise every aspect of NZ2, PNG, Brisbane 2 and Brisbane 3, yet claim anyone who does the same with Perth is an AFL troll.

I wonder if this guy is one of the people who thinks NRL is going to be huge on the US TV market despite all the other more popular sports they have.

Although that'd mean he'd have to talk about something other than Perth.

Having a rough timeframe actually isa good thing, yes you cant bragg about the record attendance if it was held at the sat/sun you had hoped for, but the upside is the Friday/Saturday showed that at bad times the crowd still turned up, imagine this is perfh vs titans game, or perfh vs manly game on a thursday night... its a good barometer
