Yep that was my experience. I never picked up a League v union thing at all.
Also agree about the tribalism bit. You learn to keep a bit arms length about that out of respect.
We had a lot of Samoans and Tongans play in our club as well (apart from the usual poms, Irishmen etc). For a club like that to function with so many diverse cultures you need to show respect as well as maximise the fun.

Hence why those saying that NZ can't have another NRL team have no idea.

It’s a shame he can’t just leave this thread alone

like can’t we discuss the prospects of growing our game in New Zealand without some troll abusing everyone with every post

we’ve heard what he has to say we get it move along
I felt sorry for him because it seemed as there were problems in his life.
Now I see, he's the problem in everyone else's lives.
This kinda guy can only survive on the internet.
Complete f**king loser.

If it’s who I think it is it’s actually a bit sad

when you were expressing concern you weren’t being a bad guy and he still responded angrily

which is why I told you to avoid this thread during your holiday hed get pleasure knowing he was winding people up when they are on a trip

Islanders are genetic freaks

Māori players aren’t as atheltic in terms of build generally but have amazing skills

ignore the point all you want the ball in play time in union is 36 minutes

the number of penalties blown the game rarely flows

if you are the kind of player that wants to run with the ball and beat the defence then that’s obviously rugby league

If you want to test yourself by having someone running at you from ten metres away and you have to take them on that’s rugby league

survival of the fittest not survival of the fattest
Bro, you should definitely stay out of this lane. You're out of your depth and spouting bollocks.

You keep making these types of strawmen - why? It's dishonest. No one is saying NZ can't have another team, but the premise of this thread from it's two 14 year old cheerleaders is that a second team is going to deal a massive blow to rugby - it's not going to.

There's no winding my up mate. I'm having the time of my life.
It's a topic that I very much enjoy, hence starting the thread...

So where will these new players come from then? Not soccer, Not Basketball.

Massive is a subjective term though, Your massive may not be the same as someone else's

If you stopped speaking bollocks I wouldn't have to admonish you and so therefore I probably wouldn't sound as much like a broken record - also speaking of broken records you recycle the same un-factual posts every few pages.

Also, no one is claiming Islanders aren't amazing players, you're punching shadows there.

Yeah I have heard of the half Pakeha SBW, but to get back to the "genetic freaks" comment, how much different do you think the genetics are of Maori and other Polynesians?

You really want to play a semantic game? I thought you were having a good faith discussion but this comment suggests you're trolling like your mates.

How many rugby players do you think get pumped out of NZ? How many do you think will ever be in this new NZ side at one time? The Warriors are lucky to hit over 50% NZers these days. Without structural changes to the school and domestic game there's no way one extra team can deal a massive (whatever definition you choose) blow to rugby.

Look at the nrl

that shows you the difference imo

and I added Jonah lomu as well after I confirmed he’s Tongan

Hypothetically would you be happy if league did strike this mythical blow or not ?

Where did I say Rugby League was the only threat to Rugby Union? That is the point you aren't listening to

This article states RU playing numbers have dropped 20% in 20 years, That will keep going as any new migrants are likely to be from the sub continent and both Rugby Codes can't attract them.

So you have a smaller player pool to begin with, Then from that you have more players going to Rugby League.

Warriors are running a 36 player SG Ball side
They plan on running a Jersey Flegg side next year will be around the same amount of players
With an u16's side thrown in. There could be up to 100 players contracted to Warriors each year.
The other NRL clubs still have a presence.

If the schools had 31,000 kids playing Rugby in 2020.
Say in 2025 maybe 25,000 are still playing. If 10% of those kids are contracted to an NRL club too. That won't affect the Rugby Product?

That is where the massive being subjective comes into it

Of course not, I'm not like you, I enjoy both sports and am happy for them to coexist.

Shows what difference?

Also, you had to confirm Jonah was Tongan? That's pretty common knowledge.

Well if league was to grow of course it’s going to take away from union that’s just a fact

people don’t have unlimited time or money

another nrl team will take away from union the issue really is how much damage it will do

but it’s undeniable

that’s on union for not being a good enough product that people would choose rugby league

yep and my question has been this whole thread has been where are the extra Rugby League players coming from? Of course they are coming from Rugby. Someone from India is as less likely to play League as they are Union

One by one, everyone see Te kah for what he is.

Like that matters one iota.

No mate, you’re just a massive hypocrite. Another Kiwi stereotype BTW.

If you say so.

Well I think we should all be nicer to each other in this thread (except to GROTD) lol

Fat chance that's gonna happen,,

Hence why those saying that NZ can't have another NRL team have no idea.

NOBOODY has said that. Stop making strawman arguments. It is simply that right now there is not the structures, juniors or pathways in ANY other city in NZ for one. ChCh doesn't have a stadium and wellington has a Stadium that will only allow the lights for a couple more times a year.
The argument is that millions need to be invested before it happens.

I felt sorry for him because it seemed as there were problems in his life.

It's not like you have got anything right in this thread so far. Still haven't with that post.

And if you believe he was being sincere I have a bridge that's for sale that you might be interested in.

Most Kiwi's don't share the hatred of one code or the other. Most like both, some love both, but in this place that makes you a "traitor" or a "troll". While all will have a preference, the hatred spewed in threads like this of other codes is anathema.

And Māori don't get the "tribalism" aspect that Australians preach about clubs, we have our own actual tribes.
both codes are enemies here, as has been adopted from England.... there is a history of Union sabotaging League's attempts to grow. Maybe tin foil hat stuff but It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Union is making every attempt to block the NRL from putting in a team in Perth as it will hurt the Western Force.

This thread is about league, not other sports.

Furthermore, participation numbers in rugby have been dropping for a number of years, but not at elite level. NZR are actually working on programs to retain participation as it's often now 1st XV or bust.

But, if rugby numbers are dropping, what do you think that is going to do to the number of potential league players? League numbers wont rise. Less players means potentially poached league players are going to find it easier to get into the big rugby schools 1st XVs, then into rugby academies and then into provincial teams.

Te Kaha has spoken about the dropping numbers on league in Auckland, I've discussed how the competition in my province is now almost non existent (a province which has two of the best rugby schools in the country). It's an across the board issue, for league as much as rugby. You'll notice that no where in that opinion piece did it mention league as a sport that people were favouring. (Incidentally I know the author, I used to work with him at Massey).
