New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

both codes are enemies here, as has been adopted from England.... there is a history of Union sabotaging League's attempts to grow. Maybe tin foil hat stuff but It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Union is making every attempt to block the NRL from putting in a team in Perth as it will hurt the Western Force.

The whole thread is about NZ not Australia. The codes are not "enemies". Australians trying to import that in will fail.

Meanwhile earlier in the thread I mentioned how the NZ schools 7s competition allows the Warriors to field boys and girls teams which might explain the difference in mindsets between NZ and Oz in these modern times.

Well if league was to grow of course it’s going to take away from union that’s just a fact

people don’t have unlimited time or money

another nrl team will take away from union the issue really is how much damage it will do

but it’s undeniable

that’s on union for not being a good enough product that people would choose rugby league
Taking some players, and mythical blow/massive blow are two completely different things.

I'm happy for a guy like Leo Thompson to be able to play pro league despite the fact he was originally a rugby player. We might see him represent the Kiwis while his bro plays for the ABs.

This thread is about league, not other sports.

Furthermore, participation numbers in rugby have been dropping for a number of years, but not at elite level. NZR are actually working on programs to retain participation as it's often now 1st XV or bust.

But, if rugby numbers are dropping, what do you think that is going to do to the number of potential league players? League numbers wont rise. Less players means potentially poached league players are going to find it easier to get into the big rugby schools 1st XVs, then into rugby academies and then into provincial teams.

Te Kaha has spoken about the dropping numbers on league in Auckland, I've discussed how the competition in my province is now almost non existent (a province which has two of the best rugby schools in the country). It's an across the board issue, for league as much as rugby. You'll notice that no where in that opinion piece did it mention league as a sport that people were favouring. (Incidentally I know the author, I used to work with him at Massey).

What is an 18 year old paid in Rugby roughly?

Not a whole lot as they'll usually be in academies, but during the Holden Cup era it was essentially nothing so a bunch of players were crossing over. My niece goes out with a guy in the Hawkes Bay academy and he doesn't seem short of money, and part of his deal is he has to do some sort of study/apprenticeship/work experience.

You really are good for the LoLs, you remind of a particular type of league fan in the 1980s in NZ, that mostly no longer exists now as we're mature enough to appreciate multiple different sports without acting like a 13 year old claiming our game is the bestest.

Also, Polynesians are the fattest people on the planet.
Fatter than Americans???

Smaller numbers but the most obese people in the world are generally Poly islands like the Cooks, Samoa, Niue, Tonga along with some of the Micronesian islands. At any rate my comment was only in relation to Wb's comment about leaving it to the fatties. There are genetic and physiological reasons for Poly's size.

There is your answer

given we have established players over there like both sports
Both players playing both sports
An 18 year old in RL can get $70k a year despite being a smaller player pool there will be no shortage of players taking that option.

Both will struggle at local A grade level but the top level of the elite guys will always be there

It’s a bs argument

rugby league has never had any problems generating players

even kiwi players

in terms of generating players we have barely scratched the surface when png, the pacific islands, super league and New Zealand are taken into account

heck even nsw isn’t close to potential

if every club was like your club we would be able to have ten more nrl teams

Yeah, i was just having a joke about the yanks and their love of a massive burger and fries and a jumbo xxxxL coke.

That thing with the numbers dropping participation wise in NZ is the same with league in country NSW. Teams have disappeared steadily out in the bush over the years, so many people that grow up in the country areas move to the capital cities or bigger places like Newcastle as soon as they can.

Yes the rules of NYC were

All players must in a form of study. Education & medical costs were exempt from the cap

And there was a $250k salary cap for the 25 contracted players

I went to this private school in Sydney which had this weird war cry which we had to sing at special events like when the first 15 we’re playing a big game

I didn’t watch much union so it was like 10 years later I was watching a league test and realised that our war cry was the words to the haka

the nz anthem is one of the best in the world. I know all the words in English and can mumble the Māori words

there were times I would watch a bledisloe just to hear the anthem and haka then I would switch channels to I love Lucy

now with the tonga and samoa war cries I don’t even have to bother cause they are been better

Sipi tau vs sivi tau is spine tingling

You post the exact same thing every post 🤷‍♂️ bla bla bla Sydney bla

Why do you think I focus on Sydney?

I'll tell you why.

There are serious problems in our game and society. Unfortunately, many of them are caused by the selfish practices of the NSWRL/ARLC and its clubs.

Over the last 100 years we've seen the NSWRL rape and pillage every other rugby league competition in Australia and New Zealand to prop up its small clubs. This has caused serious damage to rugby league in every region outside of Sydney. The local competitions in Adelaide and Perth were crippled when the NRL abandoned them at the professional level so nine clubs in Sydney could survive.

The worst part is for the last 66 years the NSWRL clubs have used gaming machine revenue to parasitise a) every other rugby league competition and b) people from Sydney who have a gambling addiction. Many people have gambled away their life savings on the pokies at Leagues Clubs. Some have gone on to lose their families and jobs. Some have committed crime to fund their addiction. Some have taken their own lives. The NSWRL clubs do not care about the lives they've ruined. Nor do they care about the rugby league competitions outside of Sydney that have been plundered into extinction.

Losing so many rugby league competitions from Australia and New Zealand is going to hurt us over the upcoming decades. People are pulling their kids out of contact sports due to the revelations about head trauma and the irreversible effects it has on the brain. Adults no longer have the time to play the game on the side as they're working longer hours than ever. The NSWRL clubs are not at fault for this, but the fact they've spent the last 40 years plundering competitions into extinction across Queensland, New Zealand and rural NSW will exacerbate the problem. The NSWRL clubs are now trying to put a band-aid on this problem by killing everything under the NRL so they can a) improve the size of their squads and b) develop players under a centralised system. This will be great for the first 5 or 10 years, but problems will arise after that because the system that they recruited these players from will be so watered down that there will be fewer players to select. It's typical of the NSWRL clubs though, as they operate on a day to day basis without considering the long-term consequences of their actions.

The NSWRL fans on this site hate my guts because I'm forcing them to pull their heads out of the sand and address these problems. They don't want to because all they care about is the success of their clubs and having a spin on the pokies.

The Jersey Flegg Cup is going to have an average salary of $70k?

Unfortunately when I look in the mirror I don't see Jason Momoa looking back at me.

But, since you appear have missed the point yet again, Maori are part of the NZ data so therefore don't make the list. But Maori are Polynesian so included in my original comment about Polynesians being fatties.
