17000 posts later and still no 2nd NZ team. It’s not really any wonder threads like this deteriorate into farcical meaningless tit for tat exchanges. As such, get stuffed the lot of you!

It's not really, it's only good relative to the 50k population.

You can't field a team based on dubbo.

So i suppose the point is anyone that thinks it's a decent nursery thinks you can field a 6 person team in the nrl and should be ignored.
There's no team that has an immediate geographical pull that fields a whole team except maybe the Broncos.
Some have next to none like Storm and Roosters.
Wellington per cap are probably on par with some of the best nurseries in the world and obviously wouldn't rely solely on Wellington. Of course with a team and a direct pathway would drastically increase their production also.

I don't really know what you're point is..

Nope. Unlike Queensland where Brisbane is bigger than Auckland, Rugby League is top-dog & there's an appetite for cross-town derbies, It'll just split the Warriors hometown fan base.

Putting a team somewhere else in NZ will grow the overall fanbase.
that is a good point. I agree with the point. But for now, I'll stick with my position of another Auckland team (I'll think on it though).

I still think that another NZ team should also be called ( NZ) .. obviously based in Christchurch. Make the rivalry exist nation wide with a tinge of South vs North without alienating potential supporters anywhere in the country for either franchise.
Rivalry will be within the country, Islands and even households.

Let's knock this on the head so you don't propose it a fourth time.

Auckland 2 makes no sense. For the majority of their existence the Warriors have had a core audience that have turned up, the 2023 and 2024 hype trains are clouding your judgement. Warriors usually average around 12-15k max in normal years. You're making a bet that the last two years crowds are going to remain, and that you can somehow convince an equal number of people to support a second team in the city? Based where? Using what existing fanbase? Likely it will need to balkanise Warriors fans to gain any worthwhile support.

There is no appetite in Auckland for a second team. Put it elsewhere in NZ so it can actually grow a fanbase, and it will still create a local derby.

Actually, you could maybe call it Tonga, and only select Tongan players for the team. Then it will likely work. :)

Where I am coming from is if you had a second Auckland in 15 or 20 years it would be proven to be the right decision. Have a game there each weekend.
Wellington and Christchurch are potentially too small for an NRL team. Thusly it seems to me.

Love the use of balkanise

This is a load of crap. Wellington is a city of over 400000 people. It has only 15 senior men’s teams. The competition isn’t weak but there is no evidence it’s ‘on cap’ with some of the best nurseries in the world.

This is all just feels from you, how on earth do you think it works? Where is the team going to be based? It's a no go.

Wellington and Chch are bigger than the Cowboys catchment area, similar to the Knights and Canberra, and in the case of Wellington it has a catchment area within a three hour drive of close to a million people.
