Danny Levi saying all the right things on the knights' website. It seems im in the minority here but I think he's one of the most talented young hookers in the game. I think he's going to have a big year

Yeah, you're right

You're certainly in the minority

Hes a talented athlete but he has a limited footy brain imo. I've never seen a player run from dummy half near the line so much with nearly zero success. Hes a bit of a spud brain

Levi pros: Good at hitting players on the chest and passing off the ground. Solid at getting forwards to run onto the ball. Runs OK out of dummy half. Still very young.

Levi cons: Lacks size and impact in defense. The occasional wasteful dummy half barge over attempt. Not an 80 minute player. Not overly creative in the Smith or Farah mold.

If his attitude is right, then I'm hopeful that Levi will turn into a decent hooker in the NRL. I just wish that he would watch some footage of Griffin in defense and have a real crack at emulating it. I also need to add that I wish Griffin would watch footage of Levi's service out of dummy half and would emulate that.

If I had to choose between Grif and Levi, I'd be going for Grif right now

I personally think we'll see Mann and Buhrer share the role until/if Griffin is fit enough to play

Agree with the 1st paragraph but not the 2nd.

Levi is the only fit and available specialist hooker and must start until Griffin comes back. Mann is more suited to the bench utility role anyway.

Not exactly my preference but it's what I think Browny will do based on last year and the reports in the media of Levi wanting to leave. Unless Danny has made big strides in the last few weeks to change his mind, I dont see him getting a rd1 gig

If buhrer is in firsts we're in trouble. Good clubman with a decent footy brain, but physically not what we need on the field

When is the last time Levi asked for a release and not just people dragging up an old story? Thought it only happened after the opening round or two back in 2018.

He's since come out and said he's making a commitment to the team From all accounts, he is learning from the new guys around him.
It'll be Levi and Mann sharing hooker. After that we wait and see

The battle for the No9 jersey
Nathan Brown weighs in on the battle for 9.
"Kurt is in our seventeen somewhere...his dummy half work is still a work in progress but it is coming along..." - to me that makes it clear he is the bench utility for the start of the season and I expect Danny to be in the squad as first string hooker.

That also means Jamie is in reserve grade unless injuries impact on that arrangement...and I think that is a positive on many levels for the club - benefit to the juniors coming through, strength of first grade squad, competition for spots, etc. etc.

there is still a lot of work for that spine to gel but a reasonable run with injuries for them to get some solid game time together and I'll be very keen to see how it is all coming along after 4-5 rounds...round 1 can't come soon enough

2. Mitchell Pearce-Kalyn Ponga (Knights)
Ponga's move from fullback to five-eighth is intriguing. I haven't been excited about a player switching positions since Darren Lockyer. Pearce bounced back from his exit from the Roosters and apart from injury was dominant for the Knights in his first year at the club. I'll be watching closely to see how Ponga adjusts his kicking game in tight contests.

At this stage barring injuries I expect Danni at 9, Kurt at 17 with Jamie at 17 in reserves with Woolford 9. If injuries 9 covers 9 and 17 covers 17. Only problem I see is if Danni gets injured early in a game and Kurt has to play hooker for 70mins.
All of this changes when Griff makes it back fit and well

Roosters had Fitzy, Anasta. Then Carney and Anasta. Then Maloney. Probably never had a need to kick for goals.
