I shudder at nine/Stan controlling the game but end of day if they want to up their current payment of $115mill to pay $500mill cash for the whole thing then we should bite their hand off!
ideally ten/paramount will get it for $550mill cash.

Add in nz and the nrl will finally get the tv money to become something next level.

Another consideration is paramount gives the nrl a platform in usa to launch the nrl into. We know Vlandys is keen on the American betting market. That could be a big plus for ten/paramount in the negotiations.

End of season internationals look juicy
We should be able to go to market with this right? Internationals aren't included in the current deal? Could get a good rate after the world cup rated well even in a terrible time slot for Aus viewers.

They will be part of the new deal

just those internationals not those played in England

it’s why they are doing it

You can only sell it as part of deal if it’s guaranteed. Problem is nrl doesn’t know from one year to the next what internationals its going to support. I mea; it’s nearly April and we still have no confirmation of what the international calendar for this October looks like!
Not to mention where’s the cut for samoa, Tonga and nz RL’s? Be nice to see some finding actually going to the countries taking part to invest in the game in those countries.

Tv deal actual cash revenue breakdown by year based on some best guestimate total amounts from media releases.

NRL
so for us with a 5 year $2bill deal worth around $370mill a year cash avg it will be around (on 2% shift)
2023 $355.5mill
2024 $362.5mill
2025 $370mill
2026 $377.4mill
2027 $385mill

AFL
For them on a cash basis of $550mill cash avg a year over 7 years it will be somewhere in the region of (2% shift)
2025 $519mill
2026 $529 mill
2027 $539.2mill
2028 $550mill
2029 $561mill
2030 $572.2mill
2031 $583.6mill

Cash gap between the codes when new AFL deal kicks in:

2025 $370mil v $519mill
2026 $377.4mill v $529mill
2027 $385mill v $539.2mill

A difference of $455mill over 3 years!
If the last tv deal had played out without covid in 5 years (2017-2022) we would have only had a $175mill gap!!

Except the platform can't even handle A League and the regional TV network is still to be locked up, Depending on when Tender is as to whether they are a chance

It only leaves ch10 though, who no watches
Thast why sport is so important to them and the other channels. The biggest FTA programs are the news ones and that has been shown to come from people turning on the channel and keeping on it for sport. After News and sport Ch10 last night had the highest rating program with gogglebox (the mind boggles!), Ch10 gets NRl and their news rates accordingly they then have 4 of the top 10 programs last night, Thats a massive shift for them and why Id expect them to go so hard for NRL.

re the Paramount channel, thats just about investment and theyll do that if they had a driver for subscriptions like NRL. The platform in USA is very established and quality so no reason that wouldnt be replicated here if the revenue justified it. If they could get NRL and EPL to go with their local soccer and they have NFL games through CBS they've got the makings of challenging Kayo and Fox into the future.

Its still an over crowded streaming market and not all will survive. If Ch9/Stan dont get NRL and Ch10/Paramount does then they win that battle and start to get in a position to challenge Fox/Kayo for number 2 streaming spot. Theres a lot at stake and NRL SHOULD be the recipient of the war!

In 2023, the start of the new deal, the NRL get over $400 million dollars cash.

“From 2023 to 2027 NRL broadcast revenue will be over $400 million per annum, the most ever received for broadcast rights, and placing rugby league in the strongest financial position in our history,” said V’landys in the report."
I don't know why 'you get off bagging' when in black and white it says OVER $400 million.

Nope. Time will prove me correct. No one announces a tv deal in cash only, never been done before, still hasn’t been done.
$130mill ch9 ( $15mill contra)
sky nz $32 mill cash and contra
fox $240mill cash and contra
will end up around $30 mill contra, cash $370mill

AFR said it was cash too

And the AFL deal was announced as the total of $4.5b

Minus the Telstra money

$3.85b is the total across 7 years so it doesn't start at $550m

No one believes your figures. Case point in post you say "2023 $355.5mill" ...........
Then you say '$370 m for 2023" , which is it? When AFR said is was cash and over $400m
Time will only prove that your constant nagging, playing loose with figures is your thing.

Afr also said afl was getting a $52mill a year covid reduction which was incorrect.
again no sport is EVER going to announce a $2.15 billion tv deal as a $2bilion one lol
I posted the AFR story which said $54 m p/a reduction for the FINAL years , ending in 2022 for the AFL But you show your arrogance by announcing the reporter was incorrect and having said so yourself now claim this is the truth.

The AFL has agreed to a roughly 13 per cent discount of its rights fee of $415 million per season under the current agreement which was set to end at the end of the 2022. That means the sport will take just under a $54 million per year discount on its broadcast rights fees or a little over $160 million until the end of 2022.

Sigh, $370mill is the cash avg over 5 years. As already described this starts lower and increase by around 2% over the 5 years. It’s really not hard to understand! One’s an avg. the others an actual.
