Well if Eddie says it is a good thing it must be

Seems like he has had enough of the ticket tax, Swans cost of living allowance and all the other measures that the AFL employ to bastardise their comp.

I know you are a big supporter of all things AFL, so do you agree with his point that some clubs get 150% of the salary cap and some clubs get 80%?

Seem fair?

yep for a comp that has a goal to grow and where it isn't at the expense of the rest of the comp it makes perfect sense. Heartland clubs in trouble get bailed out, expansion clubs get well funded to survive and grow. Seems an ideal set up to me. It would be crazy for a club with the revenue and profit of say WC Eagles to be getting the same grant as a new club with minimal revenue. Like Broncos operating on $32million revenue getting same grant as Sharks on $16million. Wouldn't it be better to see the Broncos get less and Sharks more so they could operate in a better way and be more competitive on the field and add more to the comp off it?

Its not utopia, not all clubs are in same environments, the grant allocation should recognise this (though I will say Sharks is a lot of their own making with the destruction of their own brand they have gone through)

Interesting that you see the benefit of the AFL propping up unprofitable heartland clubs year after year but whinge when the NRL does the same.

As I said, the rich clubs have to continually agree to subsidise the poor ones in the AFL, and reading the comments in that article it seems that the richest one of all might have had enough...

Good on you champ, I'll remember that next time Eddie has a pop at RL! McGuire has been whinging about the afl's attempts to have successful expansion for ages. Like the Broncos whinging at the prospect of a second Brisbane team. No self interest in any of it at all lol.

Like I said elsewhere if we weren't using it as an excuse to not grow the game it wouldnt be an issue like it isn't in afl. They are achieving both things, good on them.

Mute argument now, NRL,has decided to chuck a heap of cash at all 16 clubs, arguably at the cost of expansion. Their choice to make. On.y hope now is that they at least do something at grass roots level to grow the game in non traditional areas.

So now that that few weeks have passed how do you guys think the deal sits? I've lost touch with it all. Has the nz component been signed yet? Do we have a final clear picture of where it is at?

I like the dollar figure (at the time i was really set on $2b, but a 80% increase isnt a bad result).

still dont understand why they rushed it through before this years draw. I dont see geat benefit for RL in all of the draw changes, so unless there was a cash component on top of the current deal, id say that was a f*ck up.

I still cannot get my head around the Friday 6pm game, that seems ludicrous. Ill wait and see how it goes like everyone else, but ill predict that the ARLC will be pushing to ditch it pretty quickly...

I still think it's shit and a failure. Between the 5 nights of footy in 2016 and the 6pm Friday match in the years after, aswell as going back on the original announcement of 4 FTA matches, the fans should feel well and truly screwed.

The dollar value is rubbish. The Friday night 6pm game is doomed to fail.

f**ked up the ass by News Ltd yet again despite being the highest drawing TV product in Australia. Grant needs to be sacked.

This.

Plus no dollar reimbursement for changes to the already negotiated years 2016-17.

I still think the deal is pretty ordinary. Botb scheduling and cash wise considering we bent over and took it in the ass for scheduling.

The 6pm Friday game will be a f**king nightmare for my team if we have to cop one. Especially in the early part of the season when it will have to be 5pm kickoff because of no daylight savings in QLD. We will barely crack 10k. I get the want of trying to get rid of monday night games, but Friday 6pm is going backwards imo.

Look I'm sure those few that post in here that are much more savvy than I about it all may correct me here but I think Smith set the game up beautifully to really progress forward, only to be knifed constantly by the news propaganda machine and just basically got sick of the shit and left, Grant got pressured into cutting him away as well with pressure from same said propaganda machine and along the short sighted clubs. I think Smith set the game up to kick the game winning penalty goal from infront and Grant took the kick instead and hit the crossbar.

Just my opinion, I'm sure others will add/disagree with me.

I can see the Sudney clubs jumping up and down and refusing to host the game and the ARLC back down and play games in QLD especially during daylight savings.

Back to the basic scheduling is all that's required. 80% of this forum know which games are blockbusters, which teams should play twice a season, which games should be played on public holidays, afternoons and which games at night, but some American or European business that's never heard of Australia let alone RL will schedule games at f**ked up times, days & will also bow to pressure and give Brisbane their current 7 day turn around, Friday night games.

Which team won't it be a nightmare for?

If you an get 10k you will be probably doing better than any Aust team apart from the Storm so I would be expecting a few games if this turns out to be the case...

Sharks, Penrith, Manly will struggle to get 5k as everyone will still be on the bus/train coming home from work.

This Friday 6pm game will prove to be the worst decision in the game since SuperLeague..

Your opinion is a theory. No one here knows why Smith left. It's pointless to speculate as we don't know and there's no way of knowing.

The deal was and is pretty poor and we clearly lost out compared to the AFL. The dollar value isn't great and the changes to the schedule aren't good either. There is also no sign of expansion yet again.

It's not the end of the world. It's a far better deal than we've ever had, it's just much worse than we should have got.
