Don't sell unit just yet, move up and rent first for 6 to 12 months make sure you like it. It may all seem good now but it really isn't until 6 to 12 months there you will really know if you want to stay.

Rent your place out and rent up there.

I am speaking from experience, we moved away and sold our house which was the biggest mistake we ever made. After 12 months we decided we wanted to move back but sadly we had sold.

100% right Josh. If you exit out of the Sydney market Eele, you'll never get back in at the level you left.

Even if the market flattens, you will would have eaten into your equity with agents fees and stamp duty, if you end up returning to the Emerald City.

Sell when you are 100% certain you'll never come back.

Agree completely with Josh and Gronk.
It would be silly to sell up in Sydney.
The rent you get will adequately cover rent up there for a similar property, and then in 12 months time if you don't like it, you have somewhere to come back to.
Hope it work's out Eele, whichever way.

Well I've done it. Cancelled my Foxtel connection.

Overrated and poor value.

We were paying $129/m so Dad could watch the footy. Kids these days don't watch tv. They watch on demand content. Such a waste.

So I watch NRL on a iPad, which I have been trailing for a few weeks. I don't mind it and the quality is pretty good.

As for content, we have free to air tv. On demand programming from sbs 2 7 9 & 10 via their apps on my android tv.

I have a have a 1tb pvr to record free to air stuff.

I subscribe to Netflix Stan and Amazon Prime.

Amazon costs me $2.99 pm for the first 6 months then $5.99pm. FMD Foxtel did you hear that ?

Sorry Foxtel but you're a dinosaur facing the ice age.

I reckon next tv deal the nrl will go the NFL way and they will retain their content. Maybe sell a few games a week as per NFL do with ESPN etc.

Im going to help you out.
Its best to move and start from scratch so give Hindy111 the apartment.
The rest doesnt matter tbh.

But if your in Sydney i wouldnt sell it. Rent it out.
I am sure rent would almost cover the loan? Bad move to sell in Sydney.

Where in qld?

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the advice.

I've been pondering whether to move from Sydney for a while, and the fiancee has been asking me to move for years, so I thought I'd test the waters first.

Renting is a very smart idea - I hadn't considered that. That's a great idea!

We've been on the Gold Coast the last week for a holiday, and we actually went to see some properties around the Gold Coast and its surrounding suburbs - we saw a 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom, double garage home (with a pool, backyard, and patio with pergola) in Pimpama for about $525k. Our jaws dropped when we saw the place, and the price. It's 20 minutes from the beach (I'm not fussed, but future Mrs Eele lives for the beach!), 20 minutes from the theme parks, and a short drive to the CBD (it's even driving distance to Brisbane).

Never thought I'd leave Sydney - especially for Queensland - but I have to say, it's mighty tempting...

Pimpama is borderline Logan rather than Gold Coast. Also make sure you check flood maps. I could take a piss on the bridge over the Logan River and Pimpama would likely flood.

Very true - hadn't thought of that.

Perhaps not the wisest decision, after all lol.

Did the same thing a few weeks ago. Mine broke and Foxtel were taking an eternity to fix it. I just cancelled it and bought the NRL app. Watching it on the ipad is pretty sweet and dam good value IMO
