Northern Eagles. Central Coast. Gosford

Dolphins probably went cold on Sunshine Coast when the Falcons chose to continue their partnership with the Storm.
Just goes to show what a shambles the "feeder club" setup is - it's basically open slather with no consideration for geographical sense, let alone any co-ordination from NSWRL, QRL or NRL administrators.

A major re-think - and dare I say some central planning from the responsible leagues - is needed IMO.

If the Storm are going to use the Queensland Cup then they should field a Victorian team based out of Melbourne.

They've now got Melbourne teams in HM, SG and JF. A NSW cup side seems a matter of time.
Their Qlnd cup link up is giving more Queenslanders an opportunity at a direct pathway into NRL. Id have thought you'd have been thanking the Storm :)
Without them origin results would look very different.

Ahh.. that could well mean no feeder-relationship for the North Sydney Bears if the Storm enter their own Storm-branded team into Qld Cup or especially NSW Cup, unless they get some kinda NRL team of their own.

It'd really force the issue - is the NRL bringing the Bears back to the top tier, or are they accepting that the district can be absorbed into other NRL club(s) jurisdictions?

Sunshine Coast juniors can have a more direct pathway to the NRL via the Dolphins without leaving SEQ.

From what I gather the best two candidates for servicing/administering the Noeth Shore (if it was to be under the wing of an existing NRL club) are Manly & the Roosters.

Given the baked-in dislike of Manly, I imagine the Roosters would be the easier sell.
The dislike for Manly is among the older generations. Mid-late Gen Y and younger don’t have the same dislike.

Manly makes the most sense from a geographic perspective and the North Shore junior teams play in comps with Manly’s juniors already. The Roosters controlling the area would be a big improvement on the current arrangement though.
North Sydney Sea Eagles?
I may be biased, but the Manly name is very identifiable and has a lot of brand recognition, it’s tied-in with the team’s identity and generally what the team is referred to as in shorthand. ‘North Sydney’ is associated with the Bears. Northern anything would feel like a repeat of the Northern Eagles. I’d be fine with the name changing in some capacity as long as ‘Manly’ is retained in some way.

I get what you're saying. It is an identifiable brand but on market research that I've seen previously it's often listed in the bottom 3 out of all the Sydney NRL teams in terms of brand awareness. So it's not as strong as what you think it is. If it stays as Manly and Manly do little to engage the North Sydney area, then the Sea Eagles will likely always be viewed as a 'Manly' team and likely of less appeal outside of the Northern Beaches. In which case, Manly's fanbase will continue to come from a very slowly growing and aging population, compared to say the Panthers and Eels, who are going to basically be splitting up the million or so who relocate out west.

That said Super League was a generation ago. Boomers will hold a grudge but the kids in North Sydney that you want wearing a Sea Eagles jersey just want to feel like it's their team. They have no idea about that history. Their parents will take them to games if you give them a reason to want to.

It’s a stronger base to build from than scrapping it for a new identity. Direct engagement with an NRL team is what the North Shore needs (and currently gets basically none of), growth of support would naturally flow. When looked at together, the combined North Shore + Northern Beaches base is big and pretty future proof, despite the rate of population growth being slower in those two regions. The amount of wealth and influence in those two areas would more than make up for it and make for a strong NRL team.

I think North Shore would be a better name to use to include the region. North Sydney’s been used before in a RL context and to most people from Sydney is used to refer to the suburb of North Sydney or North Sydney Council area. It’s sometimes used instead of North Shore to refer to the whole region, especially in RL.

The problem is North Shore as a name on its own doesn’t include the Northern Beaches, neither does North Sydney- the name is very tied-in with the North Shore. That’s why combined sports comps that are played across both regions are often called something along the lines of ‘Sydney North’ ‘Northern Sydney’ etc- calling them North Sydney generally isn’t done as people associate it with the suburb and the North Shore region.

How can you include both regions in a team name though without cutting a region out or using a generic Northern name? Copy ‘The Dolphins’ and potentially annoy/alienate the existing Manly fanbase? Or do it the St George Illawarra way and have both regions in the name?

Easy, just call it "Norths"
There's Wests, Souffs, and Easts,
No one calls them western suburbs or eastern suburbs no more unless you're over the age of 50, and souths is south Sydney, but its just "souths" these days, call it Norths and be done with it
Its broader context will include both north shore, northern beaches, chatswood, hornsby, st ives, central coast even.. its what should have happened with the bears

You alienate 50% of the population by calling the team Manly.

Should re name to GenderNeutrally. 😑

I’ve always thought a slight name change and 4 games in gosford would be a good investment for the Manly.
Manly Central Coast Sea Eagles 8/4 split between Brooky & Gosford, still based at Manly. Might not be huge success to begin with but over time they could catch the next generation of fans.

I’d do similar With The Dolphins.
Sunshine State Dolphins 8/4 split between Suncorp & Sunshine Coast.

except Dolphins already have a number of pathway clubs and their own area they are drawing from, so you are in effect reducing opportunity for talent on the SC by doing that.

Although i agree with the sunshine state dolphins,
The Manly name change could be better...
Howsabout, Brooksy Sea Eagles named after the 2018 DallyM halfback of the year (currently the most successful and undeafeated manly player at the club, percentage wise with 100% win rate), and the suburb of Brooklyn that connects both areas of Central Coast and Northern Sydney

WTF?

That's like saying Sunshine Coast's juniors have reduced opportunities because the Storm are linked with the Brisbane Tigers, North Sydney Bears and have their own teams in the NSWRL system.

and to some degree its true. Theres only so many places in the elite system so if you're a club the more feeder clubs it means less opportunity for kids in each of those feeder clubs. Now you could argue that just means the cream that comes through is the best of a bigger batch, or it could mean kids miss out on an opportunity to go to the next level as there is only X amount of places available and lots of kids trying for them.

In regards to Storm, as Vic jnrs increasingly come though their new systems it will have an impact on SC jnr opportunities for sure. But thats quite a few years away yet.

except the QLD cup doesn't have local catchments, it's not like Sydney.

The SC Falcons is not full of Sunshine Coast juniors.
