Well, Kaufusi is in no-man's-land at the moment. He's travelling with the Storm squad to Qld as a possible replacement for Mooks, if not needed then he'll play for Norths.

First Try: Steve Turner (Norths)
Match Comments:
Sin bin: John Shillington (Wynnum), Jake Webster (Norths), Antonio Kaufusi (Norths)

An entertaining but controversial match with Wynnum producing a couple of good come backs during the game to snatch from the Devils' grasp.

Norths will rue this loss as a win here probably would have put Wynnum out of the finals race. Now, the Seagulls are 1 point behind the Devils and within striking distance of the top 5.

Norths won the two Mixwell Cup matches though with a 26-20 win in A Grade and 44-18 in Colts.

He's been playing for about a month. Whether he has sustained another injury though is a different question.

If you notice this week's Big League, it lists McFadden as injured in the Storm line-up but he's there as halfback with the Norths Devils. Go figure.

Bishop Park:
Colts : Runaway Bay forfeited (Norths will get credited with win about 73-12 i think - average last 3 games)
A Grade: Norths 96 Runaway Bay 0 (RB had 12 players enough said).

QLD CUP REPORT:
North Qld ran with a blustery Northerly behind them (at one stage an NQ goal line drop out went 92m to give you an idea of strength of breeze) but things didn't start well for the visitors with Norths carving them up in the first set of the match eventually resulting in a try to Michael Crockett in the left hand corner. Norths were well on top for the first 6 minutes but then the Young Guns managed to get some ball and started to look great themselves putting on 3 tries in 10 minutes to lead 18-4, with Norths struggling against the speedy Nth Qld backline. Just when it looked as though they were in all sorts of trouble, Norths stormed back scoring three brilliant long distance tries of their own to go to the break leading 20-18 after a most entertaining first half. The quality of the contest was indicated by the fact that Norths completed 15/18 (83%) only to be outdone by the Young Guns who completed 14/14!!!
The Young Guns faced the prospect of running into the breeze in the second half, but started well and had a number of scoring opportunities. Unfortunately for them they were not able to get the ball over the line, and when Norths fullback Quentin Laulu-Togagae scored a brilliant 70m try in the 48th min it appeared the writing may be on the wall for Nth Qld. This proved to be the case and Norths started to carve up the visitor's defence scoring another 3 tries in the next 10 mins to lead 44-18 with 20 mins remaining. The Young Guns rallied with 2 tries of their own, but it was too little too late and Norths wrapped up a 54-28 victory with two tries in the last 3 minutes.
For Norths Laulu-Togagae was superb at fullback, scoring 2 tries himself and being involved in a number of others. Andrew McFadden also had a great game, well supported by Marty Turner, and flashing wingers Derek Fletcher and Brent Mulholland looked dangerous whenever they had the ball. Up front Robert Tanielu must be getting close to a call-up for the Storm as he had a great game - it is good to see him starting to get back to the form he showed before injury a couple of years back. Cooper Cronk who seems to be able to play anywhere was solid at hooker and Pat Gardner and Andrew Hamilton played well.
For the Young Guns I thought Wallace Solomona was their best and Tyler Smith had his moments, but the backs generally defended poorly. In the forwards Luck and Limpus tried hard, but I'm sure coach Adrian Thomson will be very disappointed at the effort, particularly given the importance of the game, as they just didn't mark up well and fell off many tackles. It also looks as though Drew Campbell suffered a bad knee injury when he tried to change direction in the in-goal area chasing a grubber through, so certainly not a great day for the Young Guns.

STATS:
Norths 54 (Mulholland 3, Laulu-Togagae 2, Crockett, Fletcher, McFadden, Cronk, Tanielu tries; M.Turner 7/10 goals) def NQ 28 (Smith 2, Sorbello, Campbell, Solomona tries; Bowen 3/3, Limpus 1/2 goals)

Pen: NQ 5-3; Scrums; NQ 6-3; Completions: Nths 27/36 (75%), NQ 27/31 (87%)

Great news for Robbie Tanielu

With Chan likely to be suspended maybe its time for Tanielu?

Who will be the new coach of Norths for next season?

One thing is for sure, Craig Bellamy will have a say in who is appointed as he will be Bellamy's reserve grade coach in reality.

I guess his contract is up and they have decided not to renew it, or he has decided to move on.

Gary Grienke is retiring to concentrate on his business. One tip at the moment is that Wayne Trelevan is his replacement.Wayne has had a long and successful playing and coaching career with Brisbane Wests....often with minimal resources.
