The two most exciting things that have happened in 'any' sport this year were Jarrad Hayne's power, speed and strength,,,,,,,and the last seconds try by the Knights.
I have not witnessed anything better in sport all year.
Now i ask the code, how are we going to sell this to the public. ???? The yanks would be all over this, the NRL, ??? i am not so sure.
Our marketing is crapolla.

It would only occur if the RLPA signed off on it. The NRL doesn't go to court to allow it to happen.

I have no issue with a player going elsewhere after 2 years, the object of the draft isn't to get a player to stay at a club for ever. For example 2 years of SBW is better than none.

We aren't talking about 25 yo proven star. Kids are really hit and miss For example here is the NYC team of the year for 2009

Malcolm Webster
Joe Vickery
Junior Vaivai
S.Likiliki
Drury Low
Robert Lui
Beau Henry
Trent Merrin
Travis Waddell
Jesse Bronwich
JWH
Marketo
Buhrer

This in a Comp that contained DCE, Foran, Widdop. So rankings for the draft will have a huge say in it can't be trusted

That same year the bottom 3 in NRL were Roosters, NZ and Sharks hardly perenial strugglers but would of had 1st pick of the lot. Yet got off the bottom without it

You guys have no Juniors yet won SG Ball this year. So clearly the current system is fine

I was being sarcastic Frank. When I first heard of a possible draft I thought LU members would've been gunning for it but there have been a lot good arguments opposing it from many non roosters fans.

Was there single quote from anyone in that article? And lol@a news very limited rag casually dropping in a hint at a reduction in the number of teams.

There was a similat article in the smh a while back suggesting that the Raiders and Titans were not viable long term as they were under threat from AFL.

A load of shit but DT are no better than Fairfax.

I know you were. I was using your post to highlight the team the likely should struggle currently with this system isn't. NRL has many problems Junior Development is not one of them.

The juniors available have f**k all to do with a club continually struggling, and there arent even any teams who do continually struggle. Penrith and Parra have both struggled for several years recently meanwhile manly, melbourne and to a lesser extent the roosters have been succesful for extended periods.

Its piss poor management that has some clubs struggling.

Imo the only realistic reason ive seen that this is even being considered is it might add value to the tv rights and possibly relieve some of the financial pressure from the clubs who do spend on juniors. But this would just shift the financial strain to the nrl who fund the clubs a lot anyway.

I'm clearly in the minority, not that it bothers me. But added value to tv rights will then give more funds which can be put back into junior development. From a business perspective this would be a win as long as clubs who develop juniors get some kind of compensation.

Depends on what kind of value it adds, im just guessing but I dont think it would be a big amount.

Well I think rights, sponsorship and much needed footy fix in the slow off season. I think it could work also with a dedicated transfer window, instead of the open slather that annoys fans.

Done right, it could give us a big boost which will annoy guys like slothfield.

Leagues very existence is based on the right to a fair wage and fair conditions, it's the reason we broke away from union. Why would we go backwards to an enforced draft? There's no way it wont be challenged in the courts and as we know it is technically illegal.

I know what your saying, but let's get real.
Under the labor government, Billions was spent on AFL spending and stadiums. They are still building a big white elephant in Perth.
.

lol that big white elephant will see avg crowds go from 30k to 40k plus in the next few years for AFL in Perth and see the millions in profit generated by the Eagles and Dockers increase. Stuff Brisbane NRL club could only dream of.

Unlike NSW the WA Govt recognises when something isn't fit for purpose and gets on and invests to make it so. In space of 5 years we will have got a $450million indoor arena, a $1.2billion oval stadium and a $120million rectangular stadium upgrade. If NSW was half as committed to NRL in Sydney we wouldn;' be having these discussions about fit for purpose stadiums.

Clubs are already doing a terrible job trying to connect with their local communities, now they want to take away the local product factor.

All this so Fox Sports gets an extra show.

GOULD:
However, to have this matter announced in the public arena long before any real discussions in the proper forums have been conducted is yet another embarrassment for our game.
How does this stuff keep leaking out of head office? Who leaks it? Why do they leak it? The way the process was described in the media also shows us that those who leaked the story were well short on detail on how a draft would work, and it showed little or no understanding of the way current player development systems work.
I'm all for a change to improve player development and to help clubs reduce the rapidly rising cost of rookie player contracts. However, there is much to discuss before these matters become a reality. In the meantime, can we please keep everything in-house.

NRL CEO Dave Smith should beware the fate of his predessor — and watch his back

I know it's wilson, and I don't agree with her that it's why the ARLC sacked Gallop, but reading between the lines lately I think Politis is gunning for Smith and Wilson is obviously of the belief that Gould is as well by natural extension. Who could Websters source be? His story certainly seems conveniently timed to be a quick shot across the bow. Best read them in sequence.

They would need 75% of members to vote to spill ARLC to get Smith out, which is never going to happen and the ARLC are never going to sack smith so politis and co are wasting their time. Smith doesn't strike me as the sort of guy that is going to be intimidated by them or take a backward step either so they are going to have to get use to the new era and fall in line or get out of the way.
