Firstly, the top 4 should be given benefits for finishing higher in a 26 round competition.
Secondly, nobody gets a 'walk'. This system doesnt rule out teams doing a parramatta. It will still be the best team on any given sunday will come out on top in the first weekend of October.
Thirdly, shut it with the "sports perspective" You dont speak for sport as a whole and you dont speak for sport fans either. You are only speaking on behalf of your own interests and misguided opinions. You arent fooling anyone. The fact that everytime this poll is run the majority have wanted this change for YEARS shows how little you know.
Finally. Riveting stuff? Yeah, Watching the white washes over the last few years where teams have limped into the finals to be destroyed by 1-3 have TOTALLY BEEN ENTERTAINING FOOTBALL.

Why 4? Not 2 or 3 or 6?

The AFL model stinks. Simple as that. Supplies more fodder for TV at the expense of genuine competition.

Save your emo rants for something else.

Why do you think that 4 should get a walk?

You just like to cheer the administrators. That's fine. Some of us like the footy.

Why should anybody bother talking to you when you have geniused logic and the belief that you acting in the sports interest.
Thats like having a discussion on the street with the homeless guy who thinks thats Gillard is putting something in the water to make the drones subservient.
You simply have no clue and then you go running back to bullshit "makes more fodder for tv"
This wont affect TV whatsoever. This wont affect crowds whatsoever. This will only affect a much simpler and understandable structure for people out there to understand and lower the chances of blowout games that people will leave 10 minutes into.
But go on with your bullshit. Everybody with sense is just shaking their head at you, so go back to the dunce table with the people who want it to be a 8 team knockout finals system because it works for Fifa.

Jesus christ you are f**king geniused.

i still don't like the inflexibility of the system. the highest ranked winner out of finals week 1 should be facing the lowest ranked team in the preliminary finals. why is it so hard to have that kind of flexibility? why would that not be obvious to those making these decisions? are they scared of the same teams facing each other in the finals? stupid.

Couldn't agree more, in fact teams 1 and 2 should have the greatest advantages. This changed has removed much of the benefit teams 1 and 2 got. Most teams that finished 1st or 2nd managed to win their week 1 finals and get almost free passage to the prelim. On the other hand, teams 7 and 8 were up against it right from the start, having to beat one of the 2 highest ranked sides just to get another game. Now, team 7 only has to beat the team that finished 1 place above them to make it to the second week. So again I'll say the big winners here are teams 7 and 8, the big losers are teams 1 and 2. Even teams 5 and 6 benefit by having a team below them rather than above them to play, likewise 3 and 4 are up against teams above them rather than below. I can't see how this system benefits the top 4 any more than the macintyre system.

Stick with the crowd. You are safer there. And you get to act tough. It suits you.

The criss cross thing before the semis is interesting.

You could have the 1st rank team playing the 2nd in the semi.
Another option is to have the highest ranked team play the lowest. Adds that flexibility. The winners from the first round get home field in the semis.

The obvious problem is the same one you get in the ESL where in the first week you are playing a team that if all goes to form you will be playing again in a few weeks. It really knocks the tension out of the affair.

The criss cross thing will take that away.

Its a tough one.

The criss cross thing is good for the fans, but not as fair on the teams. I guess its who you want to favour.
As RL is entertainment, i guess you want better games for the fans?

Anything is better than club call though.

The other problem is it is could be better to finish 5th than 4th.

If your 4th you have to go away to the minor prems and have a really tough game. Upon losing that you have to play the team only one place lower so about the same standard, only they are coming in on the back of a win agaisnt an easier team.
