NRL looking to move Grand Final around - good idea?

Yes. or no. Depends how much it irks the NSW Govt. They've spent over a $1.5billion on stadiums so far and gifted NRL clubs tens of millions for CofE's so I think they might be a bit peeved at now risking losing the GF.
Having said that its a massive cash cow that is unmilked for the NRL and could bring in $10mill plus a year as well as help grow the games interest levels around the country (and in NZ).

I couldn't care where it is held. But not in WA.

Otherwise, I can see NSW being annoyed considering just last year the NRL where saying how the grand final is set to be held in NSW long term, now yanking the rug out.

If they offer it for sale I can guarantee it will come to perth. 3rd biggest stadium in country and a govt awash with cash with a RL man as premier.

Spot on

it would seriously alienate the government.

for the reasons you said

didn’t know he’s a league fan

that will help a Perth nrl bid then esp if he puts some coin behind the bid

Since vlandys is good mates with the premier he can twist his arm into allowing the arlc to take maybe 3 grand finals every ten years to other states or Auckland

While were at it, we could move Wimbledon, The Boxing Day test, AFL Grand Final, Monaco car race-lets just make everything about money and nothing else. This game relies on followers and if you alienate them then you might just not get them back. How about we stick to traditions and leave things where they are. Cause you might just end up with every final being played outside Australia (how about Bejing if the moneys good enough)

The first line is a bit of a contradiction

He’s from Newcastle. State govt won’t directly fund it, there’d be too much outcry from the other codes, but could certainly get a CofE for NRLWA and Pirates and upgrade to hbf park out of them I’d think.

Difference is it’s supposed to be a national comp, not a Sydney one. There’s no good reason other than nsw govt funding support to have it in Sydney every year. Even less so as the comp keeps growing with more non Sydney teams.
the Beijing comment is just a strawman argument

Superbowl, World Series, Stanley Cup Final, every other championship game that is traveling...

There're plenty of examples of huge sporting events that move, and frankly, if it was possible to move some of the above they would.

Yeah because supporters outside of Sydney don't matter lol.

Just because we've always done something one way doesn't mean we always should.

People said all the same things about selling one of the SOO games and the NRL has survived that, the GF would be the same except that it'd be even more beneficial and valuable to move around than SOO. Sydney having a monopoly on it does nothing for anybody.

All of the above would be moved if it would bring in more money.

He’s a good Novocastrian apparently
He is indeed from Newcastle. And knows how to handle the footy correctly. For a newspaper article a few years ago, something to do with funding for better sports grounds in or around Fremantle, he was given a League ball & a kicking tee and he knew how to set it up and give it a boot. If he was from WA, he wouldn't know what to do with a kicking tee.
I believe he played union though, not League, but you can't be a Novocastrian and know nothing about League!
